In terms of speed, the Magicycle Deer Step Thru 20 has reached 30.5 miles per hour so far with just the throttle. This makes it the faster bike I currently have.

I am thinking of buying the newer version that you are showing in this video. I have to wonder how the power compares.

The older 52 volt version is a bit more powerful in my opinion. Going up hills is better with the old version. But on flat ground, the two are pretty much the same.

Good to know the bike shop receipt on mines says 52 volt 600 watt but my battery says 48 volt and manual says 48 volt and 750 watt motor with peak 1100watts. Thought I got ripped off with older model good to know

I have the First Generation (let's call it) Jaguarundi acquired 3 weeks ago. I note that the 'newer' one you're trying (maybe call that the 2'nd Generation ?) has the Wider Cruiser pedals and also the larger Front Light and different Crankset and Chain ring design similar to the Ocelot/Cruiser/Deer ebike models. Just thought I'd point those out. Still a nice ebike and outstanding value for the price point in a very competitive 'folding bike' market.

Russ. Like yourself, I would choose performance (torque) over a price reduction. Assuming that the battery was downsized from 52 Amps to 48 Amps due to cost reduction factor, your opinion? Stay cool riding this week….Dan

Hey Russ, Thank you for the review. Is the 52v version UL Certified? Also, what kind of range did you get out of the 52v? Thanks in advance
@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight 6 ай бұрын
Not sure if it was UL Certified or not. Back then, UL wasn't really talked about as much as it is today, so I don't recall seeing anything about it. I was able to get 29 miles out of the 52 Volt, 15 ah battery. At the time, I was 268 lbs (less today luckily!)

@@RussIsRight Thanks for the reply and info. Would you have hesitation on buying a used 52v? However, the lady purchased it new in 10/2023 and has literally rode it 1 mile. She went with a trike instead. Do you think it not being UL certified is a concern? My first ebike and the UL is being pushed hard. She will let it go for much cheaper than the new 48v

russ those chao yang tires are heavy too, compared to kendas usually, i think that could affect the hill especially if the bike is in a limited current mode. I wonder if there are physical differences between the motors? I bet magicycle just put a different motor controller on the 48v, and the motor is the same. Power = voltage * amps. if they were to lower voltage, they can make it up by increasing the amps of the controller. Usually amps are what dictate low end climbing torque with hub motors. also tire size , weight , rolling resistance , grade etc

Regarding the lessened hill climbing performance, you mentioned early in the review that the bike's max current limit was set to 12 amps, and that you were not going to change that setting before doing the hill climbing test. I agree with leaving the stock settings for the initial test, but now that you've found that the hill climbing ability is seriously diminished, you might want to raise the bike's current limit to a higher level and then repeat the hill climb test. It seems to me tha thatt hill climbing performance is a clear case of current limitation, and should improve if more current were available to the motor.

Its the controller that often has a voltage limitation. For example My Aventon SINCH is 48v and it will allow up to 57v , which is an almost-fully charged 52v battery. But if charged above 57v the controller cuts off power and throws an error. So I’m my case i could use a 52v battery but just not fully charged.

I'm curious - do you have an opinion what would be the best ebike model for short senior women? I have a rad runner 2 but it is so heavy and I have to lean it over to get off and on. I am strong and in good shape just not able to handle the bike as well as if I were a few inches taller. Thanks!
@RussIsRight

There are ebikes called "Commuter" style ebikes. These are typically lighter in weight (but not always). Folding bikes like this Jaguarundi are smaller in stature, but can still be rather heavy. It's a trade off too sometimes in that if you want good range (distance), the bikes need bigger batteries and that makes the bikes heavier too. If you only take your bike around town for shopping trips, then range might not be as important, so only you can tell what you might need. Stay with 20 inch wheel bikes if you are shorter. Step-thru designs are of course easier to mount too. Hope this helps.

@RussIsRight
@RussIsRight Жыл бұрын
@@johngifford8335 The amp hour rating on this 48 volt battery is the same as it is on the 52 volt battery. They are both at 15 ah. Power, measured in wattage is voltage x current. In this case, the lower voltage is the change in the equation. The reason we are losing the ability to climb on the hill with this is the motor. It only has a 65 nm torque rating. I believe the older 600 watt motor had a higher torque.

First thing, the display is not the same and there are zero instructions on how to use it. Take a look at your settings by holding the +/- at the same time for 2 seconds. There you will see that NOTHING is the same. I just got my new Jaguarundi, and I must say that this is a total mees., The bike folding mechanism is totally different than the old model and it is crap. Also, the new display is impossible to decipher. Even Magicycle support has no clue what to do. They didn't even know that the display had changed. I had to send photos and a video of my display settings. I tried to make some changes and now my bike doesn't work at all. No PAS power, and all information displayed is incorrect. I also have a rear wheel wobble that is so bad that the bike shakes when riding. Magicycle say's the wobble and shaking is acceptable. What a joke. I wish I had bought the Sinch 2. Stay away from Magicycle, support is no help. I will be lucky to even get this thing running again. And if I do, my kidneys will get a shaking workout everytime. Magicycle is junk. Stay tuned for a video on this fiasco.
