Riding the Wind into Boeing Field

Strong southwest winds aloft-more than 30 knots starting about 1000 ft above the surface-made this otherwise routine flight from Bremerton back to Boeing Field a challenge. I flew the Blake Arrival from the west, but as you can see, to maintain the procedure track, I had to correct about 20 degrees south of the usual heading. Although there was some mechanical turbulence, the winds died below about 500 ft and there were no sudden gains or losses of airspeed associated with a wind shear.
Enjoy the tour of Elliott Bay and the Seattle skyline as I maneuvered to follow a Citation to runway 14R.

Love this, it really slows how busy BFI can be, and how the traffic is headed in all directions for several airports.

Great video. Did you take any additional steps other than 2 miles in trail to avoid wake turbulence from the Citation? Above their glide path, landing beyond their touchdown point, etc. Realize the wind might be blowing the wake away from your glide path. Thanks.

I stay above the descent path of wake turbulence threats and as much as possible, I try to set up so that I land at least a couple of minutes behind the preceding aircraft.
