You're 100% correct. My nearest track is 2 hours away. Gas for my truck is 200, gas for bike 50, track fees 200-400, food, water, gear, wear and tear etc and it only gets more expensive the better you get. my nearest track is also 2 hours away. gas is not going to be $200 mate, i drive big diesel track i would average spending probably one full tank there and back which is about $60. on an average track day you would spend probably $20 fuel. you do not need slicks or tire warmers, or a generator. and brand new tires would probably last you 3-4 track days. I understand it's expensive, track days are about $220 where i'm at. but it's really not that bad.

I can't change your mind, I can only reinforce what you've stated. Track day daily fee: $245 with membership, $275 non member Round trip to the nearest track is 731.6 miles / 31 mpg using the ALH to tow: $99.592 in diesel Hotel: $76 one night $725 for one weekend, not counting wear and tear Just discovered there is a closer track than Grattan in Wisconsin, which is 424.6 miles roundtrip, or $57.8 in diesel. Unfortunately that track is $330 non member compared to $275. Brings our new total up to $792 for the weekend, however it does knock off over 4 hours of driving.

Same for cars. Everyone is quick to tell you to "take it to a track", but happen to leave out the $40,000-100,000 membership fee many road courses require now days. My entire fleet of vehicles aint worth that, how am I supposed to come up with that to race them "legally"? Even if I did have the funds available, soon as I do a burnout somewhere on the track, I'll immediately get black flagged and kicked out, right back onto the streets.

Look up a local autox. Usually $30-$40 for a race day, super fun and you can go spin out and really see how hard you can push your car without wrecking into a pole or something. Depending on where you are too a lot of clubs do races ON actual tracks, or big ass air fields where you can really get moving. Still go romping on it for street screwing around, but you’ll get way more skills and some of the hooligan demons out.

Totally agree. Track days are a waste of money. Now, I'm not saying it's a waste of money because you don't get better. You actually do get better a lot quicker than opposed to the filthy streets. But, the quicker you get better on track the quicker your money leaves your account. Other than the obvious cost for being on the track you'll find yourself spending most of your coin on tires. Once you think your skilled up and say after a few track days spent in the intermediate group, you'll wanna start using slicks for maybe another 2 more track days in the intermediate group before you move to the advanced group and then you make the call and stay on slicks for all future track days once you get comfortable in the advance group. Then you'll notice you're starting to burn through your slicks by the time your 4th and last session has come around cause your bike is starting to feel loose and sketchy and then you say no to the 4th session and not get your monies worth cause you're afraid you might bin your bike and then don't want to spend the coin on a rebuild. One or two rebuilds will postpone your track junkie days for a long period of time. And I haven't included a minor and major service for the bike yet. I prefer the filthy streets by far.

I'm an old dude, late 40's. Not trying to boast, but even at a Corp Sr. Director level (making a good living), the cost is always a factor. I have found the more you make, the more bills you seem to have to pay (house, kids, tuition, insurance, etc...). Never mind trying to include the occasional family vacation - have you guys seen the prices of flights and hotels lately? Its crazy. I grew up riding dirt bikes back in the day. In the 80's, you could buy a used dirt bike for around a grand. These days, you are going to pay a LOT more for a used bike. I wanted to buy some used bikes for me and my 2 kids and even with used bikes we are looking at around $15k for 3 bikes. That doesnt include all the riding gear, trailer, etc. Rich guys sport indeed.

Yes track riding is crazy expensive. But you need to go to the track every once in a while. You will never be able to ride you're machine to 10/10's on the street. Having one way traffic and a prepared track, no gravel in the corners, and labeled count down braking zones. You'll never know how far you can actually push your bike and tires with out a closed coarse. For me in Central Ohio tracks are about $250/day. Tail of the Dragon is about $200 in gas round trip. I'd much rather go to Deals Gap and cruise around for however long I want.

Middle class working track goers must 1. Have a whole day on the weekend free 2. Pay the extra four paychecks for gear 3. Drive to their track(mine is 3 hrs away) 4. Pay 1/4 to 1/2 their weeks salary to race

Even just getting to where I tapped the brakes twice while chasing it out made me happy today. I was mostly practicing keeping my foot on the brake pedal, because I developed a really bad habit of spreading my legs out like a Texas gunfighter on my duel sport since you had ages before the front wheel lifted up and could use just throttle (and I wasn't doing more than baby wheelies with it anyways), but you can't do that safely on high powered machines. I need to get a stunt cage before I do much more (plastics cost like $1k for my new ZX-6R, the $500 stunt cage is cheaper).

We have an outdoor gokart track in Denver that allows bikes 365 days/year for $50/day. You can ride whatever you want but a 600 is pushing it due to the size of the track. It's affordable and way more accessible if you're in the Denver area

Motorcycling in general is a rich guys sports, which sucks cuz I aint rich but my bike sure thinks I am 😂 Another thing you didn't factor in here is travel. There isn't a track in my state. I'd have to either rent a trailer or save up and buy one (then pay to store it when not in use) every time I wanna go to the track. Don't forget the couple hundo in gas just to get there and back.

Bikes are a poor man's sport. Taking cars to the track is way more expensive... you wreck a bike, you're out of $6k. Wreck a car and you're out of $50-100k easily. All of this is cheap compared to flying airplanes... $210 an hour just to learn. $200 for the day is cheap as shit. And you don't need a hotel or any of that crap, just a tent. If you can't afford $200 a month, you can't pay for gas.

it's probably because you weren't looking, or enjoyed, what it tries to offer. you seem like a hoonigan and loves to stunt and do wheelies.. and there's none of that in a track day/event setting. doing track also doesn't mean you have to be there every week. but yes, it could get expensive really fast.. and just imagine how much it is for those who race. I personally stopped riding recklessly on the streets right after I started doing track days. I just can't the find same feeling on the road as what I get on the track.

Luckily I live where we can go to federal parks and speed all day long around 60 miles of curves. But the track, once a month maybe and average $250 track day and max speed on track is about 150 on straight about maybe 35-90 around turns. But I agree with ya.

Check out mini moto. It's becoming popular and the bikes you need to enter could be as simple as a $500 dirt bike with scooter tires. And the track I go to has a minimum regulation for gear. Just helmet, gloves and boots. But if u want to drag knee ur still gunna need a suit. Lol

they need to start building free entrance tracks and have the tax payers pay for it. it pisses me off how we got 10 football fields in my small ass town but no god damn race track. it don't even need to be complicated track. they can't complain about how we ride in the streets if they don't even provide as little as a god damn concrete patch where you are allowed to do burnouts and shit.
He loved the wheelie..
