This is our best rural internet solution yet. Getting the internet on our off-grid property has been a challenge. But, we have finally found a solution that really works. We have unlimited data with ATT. We uploaded this video which was 1.68 gigabytes in about 45 minutes while watching LOST on Netflix. Pretty good for us.

The reason why your signal strength is low is the area u live the trees being grounded yes and tall will affect signal You must be above the trees perhaps later down the road buy a tower that is above line of sight of the trees

Watching someone struggling for something simple for many was great to watch...I liked just sitting back and watching you figure it out! Myself I've also lived through these struggles and I've engineered many different mounts, devices and locations through my years also on my farm to get a great signal! Now I have Starlink.

You have a great beginning to your installation. I would put it closer to the dormer and run the wires in the wall. I would then use an AP to flood the downstairs and maybe an AP for the outside. Definitely ground your pole with at least a 4 gauge. There are other options available that will give you the max available depending on other locations and certain other factors. Great job just harness yourself while up on the ladder.

Sir first of all I would like to thank you for your service I heard you saying that they give 10% so I said he is a veteran, Sir I watched all the video about the 115 volt pump and you were saying why everything from big goes to small and it makes a lot of sense with all your respect if you breathe through your mouth and you open your mouth wide open and let air out you are going to be out of air quick but if you close your mouth very little hole you are going to have a lot of air in your lungs right now on the pump is the same way the smaller the holes are the more pressure the tank is going to hold so it can maintain 50 lbs I was listening to you very carefully I love your videos thank you very much from a D.A. Awesome video! This video should be included with the sale of any rural land. 😆 I definitely feel your pain. Went through the exact same process. I was gonna suggest getting those antennas at least 18 inches apart but you’re on it. We even had the exact same modem/router. The one thing that made our experience much better was buying the mofi 4500, not speed wise but just consistency. I was very skeptical but it really came through for us and just swapped the SIM card over and it works great. For whatever reason that AT&T modem just keeps losing connection and speed.. went through 3 of them and all the same. The big plus was having those phone jacks on the AT&T, that part of it does not function on the mofi, still looking for home phone solution. 🤔

Those antenna's your using are polarized, (yagi's) ether horizontal or vertical, you have them diagonal, and in two different planes, if both were set in the same polarization (H or V) you should improve your signals, but you need to find out what polarization the transmitters are in, so a test in one plane or the other should be done first.
@fysher777
@fysher777 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly right, but also you have loss in the coax, the longer the distance and the higher the frequency the greater the loss. You have had the router up in the tree tops, why not put it up the pole behind the yagis then run a cat 6 ethernet cable down to the house. That would give you the best result of all.
@emmanuila7747
@emmanuila7747 4 жыл бұрын
@@fysher777 Yagi antennas are directional Vertical or Horizontal is the right way for this and need to target at the other antenna especially if is too far. Ethernet cable is the best option here the signal loss is there or even make it unstable.

Also need to crimp/solder the connectors properly on the ends of the coax. Even without the spaghetti outside the jacket, having an open jacket will destroy signal.

How about earthing the metal, antenna is over the roof, lightning’s favorite. 2 SMA connections is TX and RX (antenna signal in and out)? Polarisation is important, too.

I installed quite a few yagi antennas for an outback Australia cattle station around 10 years ago but I remember that finding a line of sight between mountains helps. Look into different yagi configurations (you could probably take the plastic covers off to look at your style) for your environment and nearest relay. Thanks for all your videos, huge help for my off-grid research :)

A simple trick when putting wires to the outside is to use a outlet box as the pass thru so you can use a blank plate to mount barrel connections making it easy to disconnect and cap when you need to bring things down to work on them. Yes it is another connection in the line but it makes working on so much easier and if you go and remove a line you can simply put in a new blank plate and not have a hole in the wall to patch.

That long coax run is costing you most of what you've gained from the new antennas. Fix would be to mount the router at the top of the mast with the antennas, and connect it to your home network through usb, eithernet, and/or the router's wifi repeater mode. And whatever you do, >ground that mast

Hello Martin and Julie. I really enjoy your videos. I am old and very much retired and am reliving my youthful wish of living off grid through your series. I started watching somewhere around the joining of the buildings got to the end and decided to go start from the beginning. It was then that I noticed Marty's wedding band was not originally black, but gold. Around this video (and the next one also) I noticed that Marty wore no wedding band at all. My curiosity is getting the better of me. What happened to the gold wedding band? Not holding my breath waiting for a response. And completely understand that Ya'll are much too busy to read much less respond to every silly question. Live streams a great as well.

I know this was a small weldiing job and was not sure if that was galvanized steel but if it was, be caredul..When welding galvanized steel, a respirator is required so that the zinc oxide fumes from the galvanizing are not inhaled. Inhalation of zinc oxide fumes can cause metal fume fever. This acute overexposure to zinc oxide through the respiratory system causes flu like symptoms that can be severe.

Wilson Electronics and their other company WeBoost have units which are in the $1,000 price range which improves all of the signals cell phone use - Telephone, Data, GPS and only uses one antenna. The higher the outdoor antenna is placed and turning the antenna orientation to receive the strongest signal from the closest cell tower will produce the best results. Many people go from no signal to 4 or 5 bars using the Wilson/WeBoost.

Polarization is key. Also separation. Your transmitter can be blowing your receiver away. Do a RF study on frequency of TX and RX and how much separation you need. If you need help, contact your local HAM club and become a HAM. Out in the middle of nowhere, you can get great signals and talk all over the world.

you need to buy a Huawei LTE CAT18 router which can give you a big speed improvment in my case it was from 1.2mbps without antennas to 55 with antennas and after modem (router) upgrade it was around 140-160 mbps and upload around 45 so and the tower is around 15 kilometers ( around 10 miles ) and it won't get the signal on ground so antenna and new modem made a pretty big change
@somedude2433

You’d likely improve it by shortening your cable Doesn’t matter where your router is now you can run cat 6 to a device or a central router after if you wish. But the closer you get the first box the the antenna the less ohms it is. The less the cable bleeds off. Thus better speeds

I noticed that the large coax wilson 400 braid is not crimped, you would loose a number of DB the way it is hooked up. Suggest you get a crimping tool of solder iron to fix that problem (both ends). You are also losing DB's with that small cable behind the router, suggest you purchase a SMA to I think N adapter (cannot tell from the video) this will all ow the big cable to go straight into the router. The Wilson antennas should be VERTICAL for the best performance and gain additional DB's. Antenna instructions say nothing about slanting them. The cell tower antennas are vertical Polarization.

Need to learn a bit more about gains, losses, and panning antennas All your basic theory is correct, you need to sort your antenna for Pan, tilt, and polarity. If the transmitting signal is vertical your antenna at 45 degrees won't help. Spacing, you don't say why you are using two antennas, but they need to be 100 wavelengths apart, so the signal to each does not fade at the same instant in time. The link for your WIFI will vary 24/7 and will fade in and out, the trick is to have a fade margin big enough, so you never totally lose the signal. Gain of your antenna vs the loss in your cable is the deciding factor. PLEASE use self-amalgamating tape over all the external joints to keep the weather out. A small flexible tail of the right co-ax between the have duty cable and the router is normal and you need a "swan neck "just before the cable enters the building so the cable drips the water off and doesn't pass it through the wall.

Not the loving Julie part, but the settling part. I don't live nearby :-) (the Netherlands). I have seen almost all your video's (took me some time) and, follow your channel. I'm looking foreward to the build of the rest of the house. You did a great job building together with your family. But now i have to check Julie's channel too ... where do i find the time ??

When he starting welding his own pole I knew this wasn't going to work for me lol. Great video though. I hope it works out for you guys. Also, I'd love to see Julie resurrect her channel :) I am attempting to start something of a cooking channel myself.
