I am loving your videos.... thought I night make a suggestion... You will inevitably have water under your sinks... leaks/spillage/whatever. Just as you eurothaned your countertops (for now), it may be a good idea to eurothane underneath the sinks to protect the particle board. I had 15 properties, and I think I've had to repair the shelf under every sink due to water damage.

Good job there Martin , not bad teamwork to boot and that install went pretty smoothly . Great to see your skills and confidence improving as you get deeper into this build . Keep them coming as your channel is quite informative and enjoyable to watch . Also the support and help from the rest of your family is quite endearing . Cheers .

Nice progress. For your tub trim, look for some bull nose tiles to put around the transition, wood is going to be problematic with the water splashes. If you do use wood paint it on all sides before installing. WD-40 works good but Goo-Gone works better on stickers.
@MartinJohnsonOffGridLiving4 жыл бұрын
thanks for the tips!

Yeah if not sealed wood is very problematic around water. Better off using tile

Love when things come together! Julie, I could hear the joy in your voice. Good for you! BTW - You can get a lipstick for $1 or less sometimes at any dollar store and sometimes grocery stores. Even better is if you are in a mall and stop at makeup counters or stores and ask about samples it is possible to get some free.

They make a fitting to go from the 2” pipe coming out of the wall to the 1-14” slip nut joint for the trap. It is a called a 2” x 1-1/4” Desanko fitting. They come male and female glue joint so you can glue them either I n a 2” pipe or glued in the hub of a 2” fitting.
@canuckyank824 жыл бұрын
You bumped into a waste water pipe junction problem that all homeowners experience. 5 houses and now 1 condo later, I had to reconnect all junctions again and make many trips to HD to get the correct connectors while life goes on around us. All of our condo connections to the stacks were the opposite drain angle of what they should have been. But I just expect these inconveniences and necessary trips on our 6th and retirement home. It is really just another way for manufacturers to make money. Hang in there. You folks are doing great! Northern Alberta to Southern Florida following God's plan with a year in Switzerland thrown in too! God is good despite cancer, moves and change. God is good!

Insulate wall between bathroom and sons bedroom. It will help the sound deadening so the poor guy might get some sleep. I do this for customers....
@sinistar4264 жыл бұрын
If you want the inside and outside of the holes on the vanity back to be clean when drilling, drill 1/2 way thru on one side to score it, and finish the hole from the other side ; ). Also, typical wall paint works well on those valves/pvc fixtures and will make decent reference marks, just remember to wipe it off.

Grab one of those magnetic stud finders, they're awesome! Just a magnet that'll stick on the screws in the studs. They sell them at Home Depot.

I followed my wife's advice to glue the sink first and then mount the faucet and drain. After a long hour, including some colourful language, it was finally mounted. That task could have taken 15 minutes instead of an hour. The deep sink and narrow cabinet made the mount really taxing, and I could'nt see much behind it.
@garytrippel71042 жыл бұрын
I found it is a lot easier to mount faucets/drain before you put it on the cabinet.

On all ur utilities that feed into the house u need to install shutoffs. One for each water source under the sink and tub if available. That way in an emergency you can isolate the problem and still have water or gas. They come in compression fittings that u just put onto the pipe and it slides a feral into the pipe and you use a wrench and tighten it, some come as soldered connections that require soldering, PEX tubing that uses compression fittings to hold plastic pipe in place of the fitting. They make adapters for going to pex and copper. Having isolated shut offs is code. Also was it level?
@dave11354 жыл бұрын
Hardware store should have a 2"stub drain to 1 1/4 adaptor. It just threads on to your drain pipe then your sink drain threads into the neckdown half

Martin, when cutting holes in the vanity unit, you showed 'least favouite tool for drilling 2x4'. The holesaw you used is not meant for timber. It's a HSS holesaw designed for cutting metal. Those for timber are much thinner. Pchew.

Oh wow, with the other side of the wall still open, you should have moved the valves over so the cold water valve would not be over in the drawer area.
@BulletproofPastor4 жыл бұрын
Wood trim around the sink and tub surround is a "NOT SO PRETTY GOOD IDEA." No matter how well you seal it with varnish, water will get through and stain the wood. I've had good results with PVC boards sold at Home Depot and Lowe's. DAP 3.0 is also a superior caulk for sink and bath. To anchor the sink to the cabinet, 100% silicone caulk is generally used and it holds everything plenty strong.

On your shower the dry wall should be over the surround lip filling the gap you left. It seals the walls and keeps water from going behind the wall. You need to look at directions more so you don’t make more work for your self fixing mistakes

Take pictures of all your electrical and plumbing before you drywall everything up. Don't forget to backup your pictures. I lost all of mine I had downloaded them to my laptop but I didn't backup to anything else. I don't know what I did on my laptop but I lost all the pictures. I knew where everything was in each wall not anymore though.
