Martin I must say I love your attitude, it makes life go by so much easier doesn't it? If it isn't life or death don't take it too serious little flaws are OK, you are learning and aren't afraid of saying , "I'm learning, I'm trying, not going to sweat it" good for you. I attempt to do the same thing in my life, it helps cut down on the stress. Look at all you have accomplished this year! I'm so proud of you. I'm not great at it yet, but I'm trying. I'm learning from you. Thank you so much. Blessings to you and your lovely family.

Martin, things are looking good. It will be really nice to have a fully functional bath with vanity and towel bars. Go buy some cheap sheet vinyl remnant or vinyl plank flooring as a temporary floor. I can see you are getting better at the drywall finishing. A couple of painting tips; go to a good paint store and buy a couple of good quality brushes, make one a tapered 2" angled sash brush and the other a straight 2-1/2" brush both with tapered thickness with Nylon / Polyester blend bristle. Expect to pay $25 ea. This may seem a lot but if you clean them up each time they will last you for many many years. Never let them stand in a container of water, wash out promptly every time you are done for the day with laundry soap etc. Shape the wet brush and hang on a hook to dry. With the high cost of paint these days and all the hours of painting -- its foolish to skimp on the brush. Same for roller covers, nothing more frustrating than putting $38 worth of paint on the wall only to see the roller cover has shed all over your work. Finally never equate warranty to quality, engineers and chemists make quality products -- bean counters and attorneys design warranties.

Foam brushes are used for stains you need a purdy paint brush there a little bit more money but if you get a brush comb and a wire brush to keep them clean you can get years out of them just remember to put them up to dry before putting them back in the case that they come in.

It's funny to me that the bathroom is always the first room to finish. LOL For real. After I bought my house from my parent's estate the first thing I did was remodel the bathroom. The kitchen is now remodeled, but I started with that dang bathroom. LOLOLOL We all think the kitchen is the heart of the home, right? I know I do. So, if the kitchen is the heart of the home, wha then does that make the bathroom??? 🤣

Never clean plaster into a household sink unless you enjoy plumbing problems later. A 5 gallon bucket with some water in it to clean tools in that you can then dump in a spot outside. The plaster when you are washing off in the sink will settle in the trap cutting overall flow so when done several times you get layer after layer building up.

Normally Kilz is used as a stain sealer on preexisting stains from water damage, mold, mildew etc. There are primers out there just as good as Kilz that are made for the bathrooms and water prone areas that are cheaper. For the rest look at oil base primers vs latex.

In the bathroom I would not bother skimming, a decent PA sealer and waterproof adhesive for tiling would be the best way forward. Not sure of your building regulations, here in England I have tiled many bathrooms with complete success, and still admired by many customers. Regardless the outcome is the same. Thumbs up for your resolve. 👍.

He's trying to achieve a "level 5 finish". Generally used to prevent joint flashing on large flat ceilings or large walls that have natural light shine along them. A complete waste of time and materials in this case.

Attention, warning, danger, listen-up!! Wash the drywall mud off of your tools in a bucket of water and not the sink. All that mud will settle in the trap, the sewer pipe, and the septic tank. It will not decompose like everything else. You may need to drill out the pipes.

Do not need to skim coat at all, just learn to do a better job of mudding but you should sand what you have now as it will just get harder to fix later, but not bad for first time. Would be good if you had someone that has done this and they could show you some ways of doing this.

Martin, who put the skim coating in your head? Totally unnecessary. You pointed out the dings before painting, joint compound is inherently soft. The dings are going to appear frequently. The rock board is much tougher, and the rock/taping method is proper If you insist on a skim, you should use a plaster material. You have a long way to go. Drop the "skim".
