I've never seen this part of the country in snow before and was blown away by how beautiful it was, and from the snow and ice, as someone who lives in a tropical climate. Respect for a man who knows his job and does it so well!

I’ve been sick for 3 days. Yesterday I was so bored with KZbin. None of the randomness in my feed was hitting my comfort spot. I tried documentaries, road rage fights, religious/political debates, fail videos, etc. None of them were curing my boredom. Then I came across your videos of you driving through the mountains. That’s when my mind finally relaxed. Thanks, man.

👍For the rookies: this man knows his stuff👍, only thing I’d add about using the engine break in snow is… 1)you better lock you gear in manual mode if you’re driving an automatic. 2) no sudden movements if you throttle out of a slide, everything is gradual. Gradual throttle, gradual turn correction, gradual braking. I completely agree with you about the jake (engine brake) I drive dedicated Colorado to California, so I’m in that everyday other day during every winter. and I almost ALWAYS use the engine break on the downgrades in the snow to help maintain a steady speed. Great video hope I don’t seem rude, just wanted to build a little more on what you said.

Funny, I was doing the opposite direction exactly the same time... must have passed this guy! I did a round trip from Colorado to California and back a week later. It was alarming to see at least 10 occasions of truckers drifting off the side of the road, waking up, over-correcting, and having a hard time straightening out. It was particularly alarming to see the 3-trailer FedEx trucks doing that!

After 11:51 you talk about drivers getting into your "safe" zone. I drive a car and will create a safe zone and people are forever driving into it as if road conditions are good. It drives me crazy. Now after watching videos like this,I sure have a deep appreciation for all the men and women who are truckers. You drive in terrible weather, put up with a-hole drivers, and work long, tedious hours,so we can purchase the products that you deliver. I must admit,I have neither the skill nor courage to do your job. So, a big "Thank you!" to all you truckers out there. Millions of us are very thankful for all you do

I take this drive to go skiing in Keystone every other weekend but I try not to have to do it in inclement weather. That being said, when you book a $250/night room for the weekend you have to make the drive regardless, and it can be terrifying, especially coming out of Eisenhower tunnel with icy roads ( you never really know what it’s going to look like on the side of the continental divide) and having to come down that damn hill into Silverthorne. Btw, I guarantee they closed I70 both directions shortly after this was filmed. They usually don’t let it get much worse, these are some serious conditions, glad you made it through safely ✌🏼

I grew up in northeastern wisconsin over 50 years ago. Driving in snow, ice in freezing temps is time to be very careful. Be deliberate trying not to stop, start, or change directions fast. You gain nothing slamming on brakes or flooring the accelerator. Just take it easy and realize a trip that takes 1 hour in summer will take more time in winter in the snow and ice. You can read the road by the air temperature, wetness of the roadway, look of the pavement, and snow on the roadway. Luckily in northeastern wisconsin we very seldom saw black ice or ice on the roadways. Usually even in winter even when under freezing the roadways were clean and dry like summer. Even in winter usually it was snow or packed snow. Just start and stop slowly maintaining traction. Even packed snow on an icy roadway is not bad. Again just slow starts and stops. Now we live in Ventura california. We don't even own a snow shovel. We only drive up to the mountains to go skiing in the winter. Again, learn from the experts watch how riding shotgun drives, watch and learn. From what I can see truck drivers that cross the rockies in the snow and ice know what they are doing.
