@sunnyssundriesКүн бұрын
@ „and if you know about politics…“ there we go. Trying do devalue the recipient. The whole movie is a rehash with infused diversity a la Hollywood. Since 2010 Ridley Scott movies have declined in quality harshly when it comes to plot. I‘d argue his last really, really good movie was the Roadshow Director‘s Cut of Kingdom of Heaven (not the Cinema Cut, that one‘s trash), and that movie is historically absolutely inaccurate. Addendum: Ok, I ignored American Gangster, and Blade Runner 2049. Napoleon was boring, though. The movie was everything people did not want to see in a Napoleon movie.

@@blackcat2628zd You are categorically wrong, sorry. The parts that aren't CGI look good visually, ok, but what worth is that when the content is shit. The two emperores are idiotic cartoonish characters that feel like they written by a toddler. The plot of the movie is copy-paste of the original Gladiator, only as if made by someone who completely doesn't understand what makes that movie great. None of the plot makes sense and none of the characters have any substance to them. Things just happen because the plot needs them to happen to progress. Even Denzel is bad in this, and he is great in everything. It's just a shit movie. The fact that some shots are "cinematic" is irrelevant to the conversation. You can find "cinematic" shots in some abismal movies. RIdley Scott has become a terrible director who only makes garbage. He made some great films in the past, but he is fully detatched from the process of filmmaking and doesn't really care about anything but the money anymore. Case in point, you can find interviews with the CINEMATOGRAPHER of this movie (the reason the movie looks good. Ridley is not a cinematographer, mind you) and he talks about how Ridley just didn't care about many shots and didn't give them any real thought. Pretty much his entire attitude towards filmmaking in the past decade. This isn't a matter of "different tastes". If you genuinely like this movie, you are on the wrong side. Period.

I mean, Ridley Scott doesn't have a tremendous interest in history beyond making a movie feel real enough to the majority, who possess only a passing knowledge of antiquity. He doesn't know enough to keep things realistic in spots that wouldn't have hurt the story, nor did he much care. Why not choose a director for a historical movie who had a passion for history? Stating the obvious here, but those financially backing the film saw no upside with regards to their ROI. In fact, a director who was a true lover of history may have, in fact, sided with realism over the rule of cool even in spots that could have hurt the story. This isn't to defend the choice to embrace an infuriating degree of historical inaccuracy, but if anyone truly doesn't know why, well...the more you know! 🌈 🌟
