Court, I watched this video many times just to absorb everything. Yesterday I test rode the Tinker (HS model!) for the first time, and I found that I absolutely agreed with everything you said here. What a quality bike! Great ride! Feels secure and feels BIG despite being compact. Fits into my hatchback (I tried it). I decided I am going to buy one later this year! Your review was extremely helpful.

NJ Nice!! You just picked it up or did you order it? Sounds like you got it already. Did you get it at The New Wheel? That’s where I tried the Tinker in Marin.

New wheel, yes. Unfortunately there was some faults with it that occurred during the build in Germany so New Wheel are shipping me a new one. Should arrive in a few weeks. Good to see another local Tinker enthusiast. I looked at the vecktron, go cycle, rad power mini but once i sat on the tinker hs i knew it was the one. Would have liked to test ride a mate x but those aren’t in shops.

NJ sorry to hear you have to wait longer to get your Tinker. Yeah, I plan to order soon. And EBR has a great forum on the Tinker, just FYI if you don’t already know about it. Pretty active. Hope to see a picture of your black Tinker on there when you finally get it. First, I was thinking about the Brompton electric folding bike. But like you, the Tinker HS test ride sold me, and it is easily stowed in a hatchback. Don’t really need a folding bike with the Tinker handlebars folded down, and I can remove the seat post & battery. I will probably get removable pedals, too. See you on the Tinker forum.

Love German products and these bikes appear to be so well engineered and manufactured.... however 5K. Its my only leap of faith I still can't make when it comes to paying that price. Some how frugal doesn't come to mind. I can see they'll sell well with all their designs.

I think that too (in UK) but I havn't been on a bike since 15 and I'm turning 67 so I'm only buying once (for my new motorhome) and love this with the great ease of maintenance and sheer quality;so kind of talking myself into this instead of £1000 cheaper Tern Vectron.

call me crazy,.... but i really do PREFER this type of minimal folding. i really like this Reese Muller bike bcuz the folding is more simple, less moving parts. Plus, i don't like the feeling of weakness (in the mid frame) that most other "folding bikes" have. i just wanna be able to throw it in my car. TOO EXPE$IVE ! ! !

You knew more about the bike than the dealer. As always , great review. In fact , very few reviewers are ever as comprehensive as your reviews. I would opt for the external gears . The nuvinci or what ever it’s called is too complex for my taste . I want something that i know how to repair or replace myself.

I wanted to like this bike when I test road it, but it was very slow. It was geared way too low for sustaining anywhere near 20MPH, but none of the reviews I've seen mention this. Too bad. 20" bikes save a lot of space and the fact that this one has suspension means it compensates for the down side of small wheels which is bad ride. I wound up buying the R&M Roadster which I didn't think I would like - until I rode it. Moral of the story? Ride plenty of bikes before buying - even the ones you don't think you'll like.

ElectricBikeReview.com thanks for your answer. I live in Italy so I should import something but I think I could handle that (not sure of course). I've read good things about Xiaomi Qicycle (considering it's value and price) but the only way it get it now is to buy it from Chinese sellers. Your suggestion is very appreciated. Thank you

Damn! I was sure to have replied to you a few days ago but I don't see my answer here! Anyway, sorry for this delay. I live in Italy. I was looking for something not very expansive and possible good looking. I know it is not "great" but I was tempted by Xiaomi Qicycle that is pretty affordable (around 800 euro from GearBest), it is tiny, it is foldable and electric. For sure it won't have the quality of a 1600 euro ebike but could be a good starting point. That's why I ask you that are much much more into this market than me. Thanks for your help!

@Propelbikes
@Propelbikes 7 жыл бұрын
It is doable in theory, but it would be like a car with a single speed transmission. It would be okay if there was no hills, but for most people's riding it wouldn't make too much sense. You'll also loose a lot of efficiency.

Propel Electric Bikes I really like the elegant simple look but it seems the nuvinci system is the best option you can get for that on an eBike. Especially with the harmony version. That is really cool tech.

@flyshacker
@flyshacker 5 жыл бұрын
I test rode the Tinker high-speed model yesterday against the Vectron S10. I was surprised by the Vectron -- didn't expect as much. But the Tinker definitely won IMO. The shifting on the Vectron is clunkier (with loud mechanical noises). I felt the bumps more on the Vectron. The plus for the Vectron is that it folds. But I tried putting both in my hatchback, and I found that the compactness of the Tinker would enable me to carry 2 Tinkers.

Important note: SMALL WHEELS are dangerous if your streets have potholes. Unlike a regular sized bike (26,27.5,29inch) that rolls over a divot or pothole, a small wheeled bike will fall into the hole, can get caught, and throw you to the ground painfully.
@willybilly99

Boosted board can run speed up to 28mph & these skate boards have tiniest wheel & still people ride it without any problem.
@ElectricBikeReview
@ElectricBikeReview 7 жыл бұрын
They can definitely be less comfortable and feel squirrelly at low speed. NightBot has a point about smaller skateboard wheels being okay in some cases (but there are four vs. just two) and I have crashed hard on skateboards a LOT... I have a scar on my chin and cracked jaw because of it. So I guess, what I'm saying is ride safe? I'd rather be on a 20" wheel than a skateboard on rough streets and if you're not careful, any type of bike can be dangerous but smaller wheels do tend to suffer more.
@ForbinColossus
@ForbinColossus 7 жыл бұрын
"False dilemma" argument--- Why the false comparison to skateboards? Skateboards have four wheels with completely different dynamics of balance and weight distribution-- and that's before we get to use and purpose. How many would substitute a skateboard for travel by bicycle? A better comparison would be to a Razor scooter that gives two tiny wheels to balance on. Can you do it? Yes, of course. But it's the wrong tool for the job. Again, my point is that *a wheel smaller than a pothole will fall in a pothole* - therefore a smaller sized wheel is inherently less stable & able to tackle real world ruts 'n' bumps road conditions.
@pt020
@pt020 7 жыл бұрын
Have the bike and it is very nice and safe ride. In the city the bike is much easier to use and small wheels make the bike faster at acceleration.
@willybilly99
@willybilly99 7 жыл бұрын
btw how big pothole you talking about? are you talking manhole? lol ..coz if its big like 10inch width & deep anything can be serious problem even if its 29er tire or huge truck. It also depend on how fast you go. but department of transportation they will fix those pothole if its big enough to throw you off the bike or break your car's rim... back in the days i used to ride Goped with wheel smaller than razor scooter's i could easily lift my front handle while moving to avoid that pothole. point is this bicycle's wheel size is normal infact people consider this wheel size as light & compact. easy to store thats a big plus..

It’s a top notch quality bike. In Germany, there is a trend that more and more people particularly in urban surroundings do away with the car altogether, and get real high quality bikes, e-bikes and e-cargo bikes, instead. If you get rid of your car and the TRULY insane expenses that go along with it (rapid loss of value, taxes, insurance, gas, service and repairs), you can easily afford such a bike - and still save money on top.
