I own a Tinker HS! I’m loving it! I usually ride bike trails in suburban Chicago! The Tinker was purchased from Propel Bikes in Brooklyn. The customer service provided by Chris & his staff is professional and helped me speedily resolve a few niggling problems I initially experienced! The Tinker is a great 👍🏽 bike. It’s compact size makes it easy to throw it into the back of my Subaru Forester and not have to worry about attaching the to a bike carrier!

I'm always looking for the optimal what I call Apartment Bike. Right now I'm using the Swagtron EB5 Plus Pro. Light weight, folds to a small package for storage. I can handle it in Hallways and in stairs but it's rugged enough to get me around town to grocery shop, do errands, visit friends and family, make appointments. Things you might find yourself doing on any given day in a town or city. There's also going to the local coffee shop. I carry around an extra battery in my backpack to add range. Seriously though most places I go are within my only a few miles from my apartment. This bike your showing seems to fit what I'd call an Apartment Bikes main characteristics. Folding not being an absolute necessity and it does partially fold anyway.

I know this is an old video but my neighbor is selling his Tinker. It’s older. He said 5 years old. I wonder what a fair price is? I understand this company is like a Bugatti of e-bikes but 6000 dollars for this little guy compared to what’s come out in the past few years seems high. If I could get it for 1500 dollars I’d do because that’s a super bargain…but if he wants 4000 bucks I’ll pass. If anyone reads this and has any advice I’d sure appreciate it…but I know how old videos just die in cyber land.

Hi Chris Nice bike review. Between the Tinker and the Tern HSD S8i what are the pros and cons? I am looking for one of these 2 compact bikes to commute in the city of Paris (France). Main point for me is to use the lift to go to my flat where I have to store my bike during the night. I don’t trust folding bikes so there aren’t many choice for a compact bike easy to care with suspension. Thank you if you can help me. Regards from France
@tonydare76143 жыл бұрын
Great review, thanks. I like in Paris, France and am considering moving from a motorbike to an ebike due to the new speed limit (18mph everywhere!) and the introduction of paid parking for motorcycles. I'm considering a few different models, including this one. Would you say that it is the best in their range for a daily city commute of around 10 miles? Or would you consider others in this brand or different brands if size isn't a problem?

Where did you get this configuration? In EU, if we want a carbon belt drive, we only can get the Performance line motor. You have the belt drive with CX?!

Great review. Question, what if it rains? Does the display and powerpack or anything else need to be covered with a plastic bag?
@Propelbikes4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! No need. The bike can be ridden in heavy rain with no issues because the components are made to handle that.

I just tried one today, like it a lot, especially the adjustment for comfort. I'm wondering though, how does it compare to a Tern, or Benno, or Velo de Ville etc?

How does it compare to the Tern hsd in terms of ride quality? Sounds like it has a lot less weight capacity overall than the tern hsd for hauling purpose. Lastly is there a Rholoff option for this bike?
@Propelbikes4 жыл бұрын
The Tinker is a bit more sporty and the motors are a bit more powerful. I think I enjoy riding the Tinker more, but the HSD has some other capabilities though. No Rohloff option for this bike.
@miata13703 жыл бұрын
@@Propelbikes Chris.....I thought the same when comparing the Vekron to the HSD..the Vektron felt more "sporty" to me; the HSD, a bit smoother riding, "slower" steering and more stable feeling. I bought the Vekron Q9 this summer and am enjoying ti but was tempted by the Tinker with its suspended front fork, Abus cafe lock and Performance Line Bosch motor.....it was just a bit too $$$.

This looks like an awesome bike! Would you say this would be a good bike for multi-modal commuting (train or bus)?
@Propelbikes4 жыл бұрын
It definitely is! We have many people that use this for multimodal but keep in mind it does weigh about 50lbs and I would check with your bus if their bike rack works with 20” wheels. Otherwise it’s an excellent bike to get around a city!

Hey Chris, I still like the Tinker and I think it could complement my Load in times where I really don't need a full cargo bike. Tho the reduced amount of models and also the removal of some options inkl. not adding a Nyon 2021 option to the 2021 models makes me thinking whether sales of the Tinker are not doing pretty well so they had to remove some of the options and thus make the available Tinker models less divers.
@Propelbikes3 жыл бұрын
Daniel, the Tinker is a great bike and a excellent compliment to the Load. Many are bummed they dropped the HS version, but the new Silent version is really cool. The tinker is definitely not as popular as some of their models but it still does well. I think you could swap the display if you want the Nyon, they often limit displays on some bikes due to the design or supply. It could be that the bulky Nyon doesn’t work well with the handlebar fold. I hope this helps.
@uebermodean3 жыл бұрын
@@Propelbikes thanks Chris, I plan to get the Tinker as a leased job bike in spring 2021. For the Load I already swapped the Bosch Intuvia with a Bosch Nyon 2021. I guess my local dealer knows whether that would also work for the Nyon.

My wife is 4’10”. I think I found her next bike. Could an auto shifter be retro fitted to the hub?
@mariner78534 жыл бұрын
Ideal bike. Could you fit an Alfine 11 gear to the rear wheel to give a greater gear range ? Your videos are nearly as good as a test ride - well done !!
@Propelbikes4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! The 11 speed Alfine hub would have a slightly wider gear range at 409% from the 380% on the Enviolo 380.
@mariner78534 жыл бұрын
Thanks, but the rear frame width would be able to take it do you think ?

Hi Chris. I appreciate this is an old video but could you advise whether the Tinker vario can be retrofitted with a Rohloff speedhub with the cabon belt?
@Propelbikes4 жыл бұрын
It might be possible, but it’s not recommended or supported by R&M due to liability concerns.
@AB-yi5xy4 жыл бұрын
Propel Electric Bikes I see. I have had the Tinker for about 3/4 months and I have already found the gear range to be limited. The built quality for me is exceptional but if there is a way I could swap out the gears with something with more range that would be great otherwise I may need to sell the bike for something like a Brompton eBike with the Rohloff speedhub which I've seen fitted with no issues. Would appreciate your thoughts and recommendations.

The tyre brand Schwalbe is pronounced Schwalbuh, not Schwalbee.
@Propelbikes5 жыл бұрын
Rik De Beul thanks, I appreciate the feedback I’m familiar with the pronunciation as I have spent a good deal of time in Germany. There are many German brands that we pronounce differently here. I guess I have to consider my strategy on that. Some other brand names we pronounce differently include Abus, Müller and more. I also say coffee, dog and walk weird because I’m from NY :) I hope you enjoyed the video despite my mispronunciation. It’s one of my first solo videos so I’m excited to hear the feedback.
