...cont on Rudisha. This guy is merely 21 and is yet to develop fully. He'll definitely go below 1:40 in the next two years and my hunch is that next year, he'll go below 1:41. Rudisha is just phenomenal. He makes me proud of being Kenyan and true to his name, he has returned the WR to Africa-the cradle of distance running. This record is for the entire African continent and should never leave, ever again! Ahsante Ndugu Lekuta. You make your father proud, you make your motherland proud. Hongera!

This place (Reiti) is also where Morceli ran his WR in the mile in 1993 (later broken by El Guerrouj in 1999). Dan Komen ran a WR for the 3000m in 1996 (still stands today). Ngeny ran a WR in the 1,000m here as well in 1999. So basically, 3 standing WR's are held on this track to this day.

When the excellent David Rudisha set the current world record time for the men's 800 metres - in September last year - he covered each 100m segment of the race in 12.63 seconds. That is remarkable ... incredible. Anyone who doubts this should just consider the following fact: MR AVERAGE IS NOT CAPABLE OF SPRINTING 100 METRES IN 12.63 SECONDS !!
@speardeeply12 жыл бұрын
CL, you're right. Pure masochism. Guerrouj was a freak. I'm loving watching the Olympics. I just watched Farah win the 10K. But those guys seemed to be in less pain afterwards than the middle distance rowers. They were crying like school girls.
@SunnyKid97514 жыл бұрын
David is definitely on a roll. Does anyone realize that his stride length is about 2.2 meters which means he can really gooble up distance without taking the sprinter turnover that raises his heartbeat too high. The wave of the future is tall lean runners over 1.95 meters (Rudisha, Bolt).

@mytime8114 жыл бұрын
@mrcatohead That is pace making. Tangui paced for the first 400m, and Kivuva for the next 200m then left Rudisha to go for the jugular. That's is to make him run faster and gauge the pace. Left alone he can be slower hence not break the record.

In response to SunnyKid975: Nick Symmonds is now the 8th fastest US 800m runner of all time, which is exactly where he was before the race (with a PR that's now .07 faster than his previous best). He trails Johnny Gray, Mark Everett, David Mack, Rich Kenah, Rick Wohlhuter, Earl Jones and Khadevis Robinson. I feel he still needs to be a little quicker to have a shot at the medals at the outdoor WC's or Olympics.

@coalcoalcoal Yes that is Sammy Rangui he paces David Rudisha. He did so at the Sydney and Melbourne track classics as well
@biscuitmancollin13 жыл бұрын
@coryhalorich That is not exactly true. Nick Symmonds runs the first lap of his 800m 'slower' relative to his competition. He does not, however, run the first 400m slower than his second 400m. So he actually runs his first 400 faster than the second one. I split timed his 2008 Olympic Trial victory at 800m. His first 400m was run in the ballpark of 50.0-50.5. His final time was 1:44.10, giving him a time of 54.10 for the second lap.
@phastman13 жыл бұрын
@kanyeezys Rudisha's 400m split in his previous WR in Berlin was 49.1, there's no official split for him in this race but Sammy Tangui (Rudisha's rabbit) went out in 48.2, so Rudisha's 400m split here was probably sub 49
@thekerns2009texas12 жыл бұрын
the 800m maxes out both the aerobic and the anaerobic energy pathways in the body. the body literally depletes itself of almost all storage of ATP. It is the hardest race in track if the runner pushes themselves to their limit. the 1500 relies more on the aerobic whereas the 400 is anaerobic with aerobic intermixed. 800m is maximal exertion with sustained effort And @ CL10822 the lactic acid is not what burns it is the hydrogen ions that are a byproduct of glycolysis
@phastman13 жыл бұрын
@Scicotion Rudisha didn't go out in 45 for the first 400m, not even close. Sammy Tangui (his rabbit) went out in 48.2, so Rudisha's 400m split was probably around 49s, which is what he got in his 1:41.09

seems the future is on tall athletes like Bolt and Rudisha.Paul Tergat was also quite tall for a marathoner but Gabreselasie seemed to always have an upper hand,could he have done somthing better? was it coaching? can taller athletes handle tha marathon too?
@SunnyKid97514 жыл бұрын
@MrKarlozz Rudisha is 1.90 m and is tall for a 800m runner. Bolt is 1.95 m. The latest records are being broken by taller runners. There are ONLY 2 ways you can run faster. The equation for SPEED = stride length times stride frequency. You either increase your stride length or increase your stride frequency (turnover). Bolt and Rudisha have great stride length. Tyson Gay has great stride turnover.

Her best 100m is a 14.7 but as I say shes only just started, Shes got a lot of natural speed, she just needs to learn to channel it expeditiously, without wasting any energy, if you get what I mean;) After all, shes got LOADS of time to improve hasnt she. During the summer I trained for a Tri-Athlon for a school group of mine and then in the fall I ran Cross Country. If I had to give a few pointers, I would say get the mileage in during the off season and a couple months before track add in some speed work outs. My least favorite one was probably 800 repeats. I would do 6 of them with about 2.5 minutes of walking in between each. At first it sucked, but by the time track came along, I was able to maintain a 2:30 pace for each repeat.

Dan, sports physiologists say that no human can run full speed for much more than 300 meters. One coached technique is to unwind like a spring. Full speed early and plan it to be spent at the end. The other is to run 9/10ths speed early, then 8/10ths, and so on. A 90% effort requires approximately the same energy from a fast sprinter as it does from a slower one, but the distance covered is different. Isaac Newton frowns, but that's the real world. 400 hurts, but 800 hurts much more!
@adamroflll12 жыл бұрын
you're doing the same thing as me, comparing the two! so I applaud you on that remark. once again, it is your opinion that the "beethoven" of track is the 800m. I'm saying that millions of people enjoy the 100m more.
@SonNative14 жыл бұрын
Rudisha has his own identity and to say that he is not at Usain Bolt's level is pure insanity. There are three runners who are head and shoulders above everyone else; 1. Usain Bolt 2. Kenenisa Bekele 3. David Lekuta Rudisha. These three athletes at their prime are the best without a doubt. Just lookat lalang's 1:42.95 when compared to his WR . He is about ten metres ahead of the manin an 800m race. At the 250 metre mark, you can see him separating himself from Boaz lalang. ...cont.

@newromantic888 He easily managed to break Kiptekers record on two occasions. Cosidering that he is only 22, he still has a lot of improvement ahead of him, and how is his technique not graceful? Great stride length, stride rate, no unnecessary bouncing when he runs, and no rocking from side to side like many other runners. Pretty sure he'll be able to compete and/or break records for at least another 4 years.
