I have the Caldwell XLA. That is strictly a range toy, and zeroing rifles. If it breaks it breaks. If it breaks when I’m zeroing, I thankfully have a bag so no worries there. Was thinking about getting the Harris for a DMR build I’m planning on, but I think I’ll save for the Atlas.

I’m leaning between Harris and Magpul. Still researching. But $200+... I just can’t!!! But I’m not in matches or the service...etc Just reasonable long distance and hunting.

Great video! I am still loyal to the Atlas BT-10. I have an AccuTac on my Tikka Tac A1, and while it is an excellent bipod, it is very bulky. As far as moving in and around barricades with it is a little more difficult than the smaller Atlas. I stopped using Harris bipods just simply due to the fact that the Atlas is much easier to "load" and the leg position options on the Atlas. The Harris with the LaRue mounts are around like 150 anyway, so I just go with the Atlas BT-10. The AccuTac is just as rugged if not more, and has some interesting features, such as the locking mechanism used. The Accutac is a little quicker to deploy because of the size of the legs and the width they are apart vs. the Atlas. So for quick and easy to deploy legs (as this review states the fine motor skills) when fine motor skills are compromised, the AccuTac is much easier. The negatives are the size, fit in cases, and movement and resting the rifle on barricades or shooting through tubes/barricade holes, etc. It just adds more width to your rifle. I like the Atlas with the spigot mount on my AICS custom 700 and the QD BT-10 for my TRG, ARs, etc.

Good videos, especially for new shooters and to grow the sport. Key note about the atlas bipod. The legs are suppose to spin so that the shooter can measure how much they are loading the bipod. Consistency is the name of the game.

I've got the Caldwell XLA bipod which I ordered with cant, it has a full 20 degree with tension adjust knob. Cost was $39 and came with swivel attachment which is perfect for my Sako stock. I like that I can order the Caldwell exactly as I wanted without paying up to $70 each from aftermarket vendors to adapt it.

Cool. Honestly the Caldwell isn't a bad bipod for the price. I just wonder about long term survivability in field or competition settings. Agree on the Rugged Ridge. I just can't stomach the price. Thanks for commenting.

The new Atlas BT46 and 47 legs don’t rotate. And don’t forget, Harris bipods are still 20+ years ago technology. They work but are klunky and have too many areas to cut or pinch you. I was really hoping Harris would come up with some new stuff other than just a QD mount. And the Atlas is lighter than the carbon fiber RR. No brainer, Atlas is the king in my opinion. And yes you can fold the legs forward 45° and lean over a cliff and shoot just fine. Outstanding video here. Thanks for sharing. Oh, UTG makes a pretty good little bipod that has held up fine with me for the past 2 years. I’ve had it on a.308 and ARs. I did have to crank down the adjusting screw to almost no play because that’s how I use it, but it works really well for less than $50.00. UTG TL-BP01. Best budget Bipod I’ve ever seen.

To be fair, comparing a Harris to a Atlas is a 20 yr difference in technology. Great video, you'll need to look at the new Magpul bipod and see where it stacks up.

I just don't think it works well for PRS style competitions. What is it about the design that you don't like?
@Jean.346 жыл бұрын
thank you, that was an amazing honest review. I wish if I had the chance to find a bipod that has all atlas features but with adjustments of inline or decline degree of Rugged Ridge. the rugged ridge has some more unfavorable feature, which is that you need time to just length and can't stiffen the rotations, you either has to keep it lose or lock it. while the atlas main issue is that you don't have enough room for adjustments like the rotation of for shooting down from the mountain to a valley for example
@godofm3tal14 жыл бұрын
should have reviewed the pivot model caldwell. i can't deny those other models have more features but.. at the end of the day all most people need them to do is hold the gun off the ground 🤷🏻 and for $30? fuck it. it does the job

I added the $75 knights armament qd mount to the harris brsm bipod it replaces the swivel mount instead of adding on to it. the qd mount has panning and swivel cant feature that adds capabilities to the weapon sysyem.

I have the newer Atlas BT 10 on my 6.5 CM Ruger Precision Rifle and love it. I can shoot from a mat with the Atlas bipod and CTK monopod and do as well as from my heavy bench rest and bag system. The spendy carbon fiber bipod is STILL over 1 oz. heavier than than the Atlas shown. I'm not a fan of bipods on hunting rifles. Use yer crossed hiking poles.

I am putting together a SPR in a AR platform. Right now it does not have a floating barrel.. Do you think putting a bipod on the bottom hand guard would mess with the barrel harmonics?
@PrecisionRifleNetwork2 жыл бұрын
Literally everything that touches the barrel will disturb the harmonics. Obviously best to free-float it if possible.
@oldmanpatriot14902 жыл бұрын
@@PrecisionRifleNetwork Thank you for responding so quick.. Yes,, its well known that anything that touches the barrel would... But my question is pointed.. The hand guard is already touching the barrel and its shooting fine off of a bag.. My question is geared toward eliminating the rest bag and using a bipod.. adding the bipod to the hand guard,,,, So the only thing that would still be touching the barrel would be the already existing hand guard. I guess my question should be more of Would the additional weight change anything? because Im already resting the hand guard on a bag. would a bipod be much different as far as the rest goes?
@PrecisionRifleNetwork2 жыл бұрын
@@oldmanpatriot1490 gotcha. Thanks for clarifying. I don’t think the extra weight would cause an impact shift. I think it would come down to any torque or twisting that your body weight adds to that system. You know, as you load into the bipod.
@oldmanpatriot14902 жыл бұрын

I have the Harris BT10 and I have a problem with the legs staying closed after a few rounds. My 30-06 is not a super powerful round and I noticed that after 12 shots on the range, when using a bench reset instead of the bi-pod, the legs would slowly creep forward with every round ? Won't stay locked.

Precision Rifle Network... agreed it’s a different concept. I’ve been shooting one quite a while and like it. You can lock out the pan. It’s strong and you can load it. That slop allows the recoil to be consistent back to your shoulder instead of pivoting on the pod. I’m getting old too. Sometimes I don’t like to give new stuff a chance. Kidding!
