I love the later war British trench cap. Comfy, cheap, and practical, while still looking pretty great.

sir, another bang on job, I've read that a lot of the troops would snag a small tin to carry the tea ration in so it would stay clean and dry, oh, and I know a guy who got his great-grand fathers WWI uniform, it hasn't ever had any medals or ribbons on it, (I have seen this uni, ) so the guy did his rsearch and turns out the guy had been awarded 2 gallantry medals, had mentioned in dispatches twice and been gassed 3 times. but never put any thing on his uni but the rank and service chevrons.

Thanks for commenting! The tin for the grocery portion of the ration was an issue item early in the war, to be kept and replaced as it wore out, as the war progressed as you can imagine replacing knackered tins became much less of a priority! That sounds quite familiar re the medals, many men chose not to wear them for varying reasons. Thanks for sharing the anecdote.

5th Field Company RE was the unit of John Chard VC, the commander at Rorke's Drift in 1879 during the Zulu War, they served in France and Burma in WWII and, as 5th Field Squadron RE, were still going in 1993.

Rifleman Moore your best bet would be to look at the 2nd hand airsoft forms for an army armament sa80A1.

@@harryb8945 First Gulf War used SA80 and L1A1....Rifleman Moore, maybe 2 videos, one being Infantry First Gulf War and second being other Arms First Gulf War....a right old mix of '58 gear with L1A1, PLCE green and cammo with SA80 and the mix of the two. May take some research though.

Does anyone know why the 5th Field company was in Lapugnoy France October 1918 please?

Fantastic impression! Everything looks bob on from the fit of the trousers to pack and haversack contents. Makes a nice change for Re-enactors to actually bother to make the changes to small kit and pocket fillers, rather then just throwing on an SBR with a rubbish converted SoF MK2 Helmet.

Excellent video as always. Just one question: his service chevrons indicate continuous service since 1914. While the GSM and Victory would not yet have been issued, surely the tunic would have the 1914 Star ribbon? Grahame
@RiflemanMoore
@RiflemanMoore 5 жыл бұрын
An excellent question Grahame, as you say a soldier with this service would certainly have been eligible however I have seen many photos of men with the 1914 chevron not wearing their ribbon even immediately post war. I am not aware of any specific reason behind this other than perhaps a decision not to wear ribbons in the field, either way I decided to follow suit.

any future plans such as impressions for the occupation force that was stationed at İstanbul (Constantinople) from 1918-1923?

My whole life flashed before my eyes when I saw the respirator worn at the back... Why!?
@RiflemanMoore
@RiflemanMoore 5 жыл бұрын
It's a comfortable place to carry it. It would latterly be officially recognised as the wading position for the respirator haversack.

I'm curious since its December wouldn't they be wearing greatcoats?
@RiflemanMoore
@RiflemanMoore 5 жыл бұрын
It would depend entirely on the weather, there are plenty of photographs from the period of men marching without them. That said troops entering Cologne a bit later in the month are wearing them.
