Oh man, he cracked me up-funny dude. AND I so like that he mentioned the 22 frets thing because yes, if you're in the key of B,...(as I tried to explain to some guy who was almost incredulous that I didn't like Strats with 21 frets for that very reason) Thank you Greg! What insane chops he has and it's a non-stop comedy show as well.

It's funny how much players obsess over vintage gear being superior and then you see a player like Greg using modern equipment that corrects all the shortcomings of older designs.

I learned this in 2008. Had a popular college band. Got a Blues Jr., built a nice pedalboard, and my two guitars $350 Ibanez RG/$1k Nashville Tele. Great, except it was constant noise control. 2009 came and dropped the pedalboard for a Boss ME-70, mic’d the Blues Jr, and the Ibanez became #1. Bland pickups at home, sounded crystal clear in a bar with no hum. *That Nashville is still one of my favorite recording guitars but I gig with a noiseless Ultra Tele.

if you really look into this further, it’s not even really about the gear but the volume level. people who listen to rock and blues rock aren’t trying to listen to music at ear bleed volumes because they are in the later part of their lives and realize you don’t need volume to listen intently. all the “drawbacks” of older equipment are actually superior in live settings without a PA, because they didn’t have huge FOH systems back then. As IFD’s and stage volume became a paradigm the equipment has followed that. It’s just old music vs new performance technique, not about quality. look at kids today, their music has to be at earbleed volume and they need other people all on MDMA to really enjoy it. we as guitarists aren’t as technical as we think, we all kind of just sound like ourselves in the end…
@christopherweise438 Жыл бұрын
@@petermoss208 - Good points. Hendrix needed 3 100W Plexi full stacks because in those days PA systems couldn't handle guitar. He had to fill out Royal Albert Hall with stage volume.

Last time I seen Greg he was crossing the street in Wauwatosa. I tooted my horn and waved but he oblivious to his surroundings. Greg had a smile I've seen before, he had coffee. The first time I seen Greg play was in a little bar on Donges Bay Rd in Mequon. A bad date dragged me to see him and I had no idea who he was but I loved the tone he was playing. The funny thing about life is that you never know how short it really is. Almost two years ago I was diognost with cancer and I remember that day like it was yesterday. On the way home from the doctors I decided at the last minute to stop at Cream City. When I say last minute I mean, hold your coffee I'm gonna turn real quick. I figured, life truly is too short. Sometimes you just need to slow down and smell the new guitars. Greg just happen to be there that day and I had a chance to shake his hand and thank him for what he does. Being a former New Yorker I love his accent and his guitar playing speaks for itself.

I began to be intrigued by Greg (can I call him Greg?!) around 2011/12 and was looking for a particular guitar review, and, of course, I bumped into his incredible capabilities on a 'Wildwood 10" video featuring ten different Fender Custom Shop guitars, as spec'd by Wildwood Guitars in Louisville, Colorado. I'm from the southwestern part of the state but had visited Wildwood a few times while on various trips to the Denver area. Incredible shop! I quickly found myself watching all sorts of Fender and Gibson reviews piloted by Mr. Koch, and it wasn't long before I started to think that he was singularly the best guitarist I'd ever encountered. And in the last twelve years, he's only gotten better. He plays on a level which I just can't understand, entwining numerous musical genres into the same video, completely seamlessly. To this day, I remain an absolutely huge fan and still believe him to be the best guitarist/musician on the planet! I hear that he's just as good a human being as he is fingerboard tactician. I can easily believe it!

Interesting time to be a guitar fan. I remember Greg as a lanky, long-haired guy working at Uncle Bob's music in West Allis, WI giving lessons. I took a few. He was always great and always hilarious. And now he's a youtube star with his own equipment line. Awesome, he deserves it! We live in a prefab music era. Guitar gods would be a thing of the past if it weren't for youtube guitar culture. The Pedal Show guys, Anderton's, Koch, Josh Smith, Andy, etc are like old friends now. Carrying an old and flickering torch.
