Important thing to note: Your geo MUST be sitting on the XZ plane. Got to 13:22 on a wing and a prayer that my arm facing upwards in the Y axis would bind properly. On the ~10:29 Orient Constraint Options, orienting your constraints will place your joints flat on the XZ axis, even if they have a positive Y value.

Very informative! Quick question at 11.10 you mention that you would not parent constraint the first joint. So if you had an animal with a tail, would you not parent constraint your tail joints to the base tail joint or? What would work?
