It's taken a while but now I understand why you like to build kits that challenge. I'm not into ships but I enjoy watching you build them showing your workarounds and the complexity that you seek from all kits. Well done!

Thanks Steve… no shake’n’bake for me… I would fall asleep building them ;)

Hi Harry, I am going to be starting a 1:144 Captain Kidd ship soon I was trying to figure out how to make the deadeyes look good. This is it. Thanks for showing us how you do this. Take care

Beautiful ship, my best mate built this back in the 70's but we couldn't afford paint in those days, it looked like an easter egg.

Hi Harry. Have you done anymore rigging on your Airfix St Louis? You did a fantastic job on salvaging the model kit and I would like to see a picture of it when it is all finished.
@HarryHoudiniModels Жыл бұрын
I will return to the St Louis build in July Ron. Where I will revise and update my method on the channel plates. Then continue videos of the build until complete, hopefully in August. I’ll show some rigging techniques that were not covered in my Revell Bounty series. If you haven’t watch that playlist, it may be a good source for model ship rigging, and I have chaptered each rigging line method so you can find the section quickly in every video.

Welcome aboard… Have you watched the previous 13 videos in the St Louis playlist? I also have a series on the Revell Bounty where I did in depth rigging tutorials. Next St Louis video will be in Jan.

Hi Harry, The sailing ships you have built are very beautiful. The extra additions and painting techniques are spot on! I can tell you are an artist by the colors you use. The Revell 1/110 HMS Bounty is one of my favorites. I was hoping that you will finish the Airfix St Louis and take photos of the model. do you have a gallery of finished sailing ships that you can have your sailing ships?

Thanks Ron

They may be deadeyes, but this way they help bringing the ship alive.

That is a very nice way to look at it George

once again, good workmanship ... looks good mounted on the ship. are you using any jigs to ensure the mast is kept vertical when tensioning the ropes ???
@HarryHoudiniModels Жыл бұрын
I will set the forward stays in first, tensioning all the masts, then when we do the shrouds I do them in pairs to keep the mast vertical along the centreline. This is easy to check as you go by eyeballing to the other two masts, which were previously glued and set with the stays. As long as you keep checking as you work it stays aligned nicely. I’ll show all that in the next St Louis video in 2023.

oops, I forgot a couple important words at the end of my sentence, not to mention a missing capital letter at the beginning of the sentence. Do you have a gallery of finished sailing ships that you can have your sailing ships displayed in?
@HarryHoudiniModels Жыл бұрын
I have lit display cabinets where the models sit in my living room. Or if you mean photos, then there are build photo galleries on my Facebook page

Hi Harry, have a look at Olha Batchvarov's latest post, she puts almost everyone else in the shade!
@HarryHoudiniModels Жыл бұрын
I subscribe to her channel, but unlike me with tiny plastic ships, she works on much larger scale wood models. Some of her excellent tips and techniques crossover, but for this video I had to work out my way to cope with the limitations on a plastic ship 1/4 the scale of her wood builds.

The chainwales are supposed to be bolted to the wale that runs beneath the channel. They do not pass into the hull. Other than that, this model is spectacular.
@HarryHoudiniModels Жыл бұрын
I could not find bolts small enough for 1/144 scale… but I agree they should anchor on the wale line.
@DARIVSARCHITECTVS Жыл бұрын
@@HarryHoudiniModels At that scale, you could just glue the tips of the chainwales onto the wale. It would be delicate, but so are a lot of things on a ship this small.
@HarryHoudiniModels Жыл бұрын
I intend to redo the deadeyes anyway, running each shroud over the mast for a more accurate look and even tension for both sides. So will look at a way to add small pins under the channel boards to tie off those chainwales.
@DARIVSARCHITECTVS Жыл бұрын
@@HarryHoudiniModels Awesome. Details like that really make the model great.
