Interestingly, the company I work for presently, insists ID's are locked off then an alpine tied and clipped off to a separate crab on the sling, this applies on tension lines and also on ropes rigged for rescue type situations.

+Alan Wilson Tying the ID off would prevent the ID from doing its job in a tensioned line, that being a load limiter. I have seen allot of techs tying these off in multiple systems, never seen it before until I came to a refinery Im on now.

Petzl specifically says to tie a knot in the free end of the rope. Google "Tensioning a rope for a Tyrolean" and look for the Petzl link.

I like too much all of your videos, great thanks for it, but why you don't use here your Duck-R for equal tension both ropes?

Maybe you could answer this. I have a high angle rescue background and only watch rope access videos because who doesn't love watching rope work! Question is this; is it common practice to clip 2 biners together? It isn't something we would ever do and I've seen it in a couple videos now. If so, would they have to be a triple action gates to mitigate rollout? Thanks!
@TheModularDiver5 жыл бұрын
@@esstee5888 I think it depends on what you're doing and where, as to whether or not it is common. For example I have steel slings where the only option is to clip into the caribeaner, but have used steel slings where there is enough space not to. One thing to be mindfull of when clipping two caribeaners together is rotation and the ammount of excess force applied to the caribeaners in the form of torque as well as potential rollout. Both screw gates and auto locking are used in rope access, but a company may decide what material (Ali or steel) or gate action (screw gate or auto) they want you to use while employed with them. Hope my comment helps!

I keep hearing this "ID'S slip at 6kn" repeated through IRATA and SPRAT but this is not documented on the device nor it's user manual. What is the source?
@fredrikernofsson42277 жыл бұрын
Well, it's not in any kind of document by Petzl, but it has been tested by Petzl and they have come up with different results for different kinds of rope diameter. www.petzl.com/GB/en/Professional/Additional-information--I-D-test-results?ProductName=I-D-S&Familly=Descenders#.WMMupWW4hE4 Hope you can see this link. Otherwise it can be found at Petzl's website, at the I'D, Technical information and under Tests - Standards. Hope you find what you need, happy climbing!

Have you seen the tension lines where you can remove the rigs/ids once under tension? If so can you post a video of it please

youve taken two strong anchors and made 1 weak anchor. i dont get it. id rather have the two than one based on rope... methinks bullshit....whats the weight rating on that rope, maybe 6k but you doubled the stress on , yes i saw doubled line, yet thats doubling your accident factor. if something fell and hit 1 line you had a second as backup. Now one line, one accident one slip or cut of the anchor can kill you....no thanks...I'll continue to double anchor if i feel the need..you completely negated your redundancy. now of course theres not much point in your redundancy being 1 foot away. lets say another guy dropped a tool that cut that little loop you tied...wheres your backup?
