Every time I watch one of your videos with Sam I am so impressed with his knowledge and delivery of useful information. You are so lucky to have a tackle shop like his in your hometown. Great videos Phil, keep up the good work!

Hey Phil,Steve from B&F rod and reel in Ontario... I am a firm believer in consolidation of tackle to avoid clutter and tangles. As a result with the customers we have I suggest the jig roll and have sold out a few times. I also have my own way to rig up heavy jig leaders that close to the rig shown. It goes as follows:leader;4 foot length 200lb.mono-top end;350 or 500 lb. ball-bearing swivel crimped. Bottom end: a size 9 SOLID RING (900lb.) Crimped, then I add a Nomad HD split ring (275lb) for attaching to jig. Then I either use pre-made assist hooks in 5/0 or 8/0 forged hooks (riged twin) on 300lb. Kevlar or my hand tied assit hooks (single or double) usually 8/0 or 9/0 or whatever size customers want,on 300lb hollow spectra. The assist hooks are the attached to the SOLID RING. Also the leader is then bagged in a 3mil zip lock bag with hook size and pound test for easy storage in jig roll. Hope this was not too long, been so busy at shop I don't get much time to watch podcasts or comment like I'd like. Tight lines from the Linemonkey! 🎣🎣🎣😉🙃😉

This is fantastic Steve. Thank you for taking the time to leave such a great explanation here as I know anglers will benefit greatly from your sage advice. The only thing left is for us to shoot a video with you. Thanks again Steve.

Great work guys, I literally just realized yesterday how handy using split rings can be. Question? What are your thoughts on instead of tying on with say 100lb top shot to the heavier line attached to the jigs by just crimping on like a 400lb swivel to the top shot and then attaching with the snap rings? I have my main knife jig rod setup like this and if I want to switch out jigs I don't have to tie anything just use the snap ring.

So great to see you here Brian. Sam is concerned with 2 things. A) the quality of the swivel and b) being able to attach the swivel to you lure. There are solutions to this and Sam said if you were to drop by, he would gladly help. Really appreciate your excellent question Brian.

Yes everyone had giant jigs which were useless- the 150 or even smaller were the size that was getting bites ( basically it was small as possible while being able to get down quickly as it was a bit rough 2 knots of drift etc.

@@FriedmanAdventuresPodcast Thank You Phillip Friedman great content as usual! Very important because I was a bit unprepared for the situation with only a few of the smaller jigs, and maybe overwhelmed with unorganized chaos of tackle. This content on organizing and prepping is quite useful for many who don’t get out enough or are still trying to figure out everything about these Bluefin that have become an obsession for many us and for good reason they are a remarkable fish with size and power we only dreamed of only years ago.

Great vid! Thanks. Do you recommend using a heavy duty treble hook on knife jig at all? Will it kill its action? I've seen people use straight mutu j hook and treble hooks (besides the usual assist hooks) and was curious
@FriedmanAdventuresPodcast2 жыл бұрын
Treble hooks are fine but sometimes the material the hook is made out of is too big for the split rings. Island Tackle can weld a treble hook on if you like.
