Interesting. Will try on our 2.5 this weekend. We use rubber band inline sinker rig. But we only fish 6-7 people we drop carefully rarely tangle. But in combat fishing I could see this being effective. We use very weak rubber bands and it’s rare to have a sinker with fish usually clears. Thanks for great content! Best of luck out there!

The other advantage to this. If on the rubberband above the hook, especially at night, when you get close to gaff the decky has to cut off the sinker, if its too far away from the hook. This eliminates that.

If this is working and the sardine doesn't need to be free to swim around, it does raise the question of using a more traditional drop-shot rig. Might experiment with one on next week's trip.n. Perhaps 2-3 sardines on droppers too short to tangle, with a knife jig dragging the whole thing down....

Why not tie the main line plus the sinker line to the same ring, it will keep the hook a little more free to swing. You can also put a rubber band on the end of the sinker line if you're afraid of the added weight when fighting the fish. Most of the time, the sinker will fall off during the fight.

@alextomasevic 2 жыл бұрын
Good question. Check out the orientation of the hook. If you tie both lines to same ring, the hook point goes "up and down." This is what we did the other day and it caught fish, but the crew recommended chin hooking the sardine in that case (up through the bottom of the chin). Doing it the way they show in this video "turns" the hook and then you just do a typical nose hook on the bait.

I don’t see this as a revolutionary rigging. Drop shot style with the hook in line with the leader does not offer the bait any free swimming natural motion. Not much difference than a sinker rig with the bait foul wrapped around the main line above the sinker. The best rigging is a dropper loop if you have time to tie it, but in a quick switch for deep drop, the sinker rig is the fastest way to go.

This is tied incorrectly. The main line is suppose to go to the topside of the ring , then the hook, then the drop shot line. This has the hook pointing up, then you hook the sardine from the bottom up. Lol…..
