If you read the notice about the edge protection you would see that they recommend only one rope in it in order to avoid friction between both rope. What do you think?

It would work better than using your rope for sure! You would have a bending point for your chain at the edge, so if you take that into account regarding chain strength and opening size, you should be fine! Any wire with enough strength and a termination will do, as long as the termination is up to par, and you can get a carabiner in!

Maybe a dumb question but why is it necessary to create a Y hang using an alpine butterfly as opposed to using two deviation lines to create the same "Y hang? Thanks!

it has to be an alpine butterfly as it can be loaded 3 ways at any time, a good y hang should always split the load across both anchors as evenly as possible.
