I pick exactly like that and it's such a damn hindrance but it's too late to change. This just tells me how much more talented he is than I ever thought. I've never seen anyone say they play with the pick faced back toward the bridge, EVER.

I hold the pick the same way. I’ve never really found it to be much hindrance really. And he’s not a shredder obviously, but The Edge from U2 holds the pick like this. He uses Herdim picks and uses the textured side on the strings which gives him his signature chimey sound.
