I feel like the first way you showed, and when you are learning, it is good to get more rotation in the hips, to really learn how to turn your body weight into the punches to generate power, which you 100% need to understand. But as you practice more and more, you refine the rotation so much that you hardly need to rotate any more and you can produce the same, if not more power! Which is why pros seem to hardly rotate yet produce so much power! But you can only get to that stage by learning the proper hip rotation to begin with.... Same goes with what you are saying here, when begging, probably need to collapse the knee a bit more to allow for more hip ration, but over time when refining technique, everything becomes smaller.

EXACTLY, EXACTLY, EXACTLY! Amen...thousand claps right there. Once you know how to move your body in unison all at once, you only have to move very little to generate power.

Unrelated question: In some of your older videos you talked about how the way to increase punching power through technique, is to go down, or let your hips fall basically. Would you say that sharply stopping and extending the front foot(so it can dig into the ground and quickly stop) while you do it is important? Because otherwise you would achieve the same result as going up(explosive power). In other words,is quickly stopping with your front foot(and in a way, going bacjk)while going down instead of going forward and up just as important? I think ramsey dewey made a video where he said that power isn't as much about making the shoulder of your striking hand go forward, rather it's about pulling the opposite(non-striking) shoulder back. It's more about pulling than pushing, i think that's what he said,i could be wrong. P.S. i would love if you made a video about this again, breaking it down more thoroughly. I've learned a lot from you, i think i learned a bit of wrestling from your inside fighting videos. Been following you since 2020, or even longer ago. I like how you don't bother with the basic elementary stuff and go right into the advanced stuff that only pros would need(i'm not a boxer though). You explain so much niche and weird boxing stuff in a very "matter of fact" way, like it's an inside secret. I love it 🤣🤣🤣

Thanks for stopping by. Yeah, I like just getting right to it and hate explaining the context of everything. Either people get it or they don't...I don't have time to fill people in on every nuance they should have gotten from other videos. So to your question, I'll put it simply. There are many ways to generate power. Dropping, raising, pushing, pulling, moving, not-moving, etc and etc. If you're using a step to punch...sure, the step can add power but the real utility of the step is to bring you closer. Why are you coming closer? So you can follow up with the next shot? Or so you can make space to back up from his counter? I don't know. But for sure if you're stepping closer, you SHOULD have some kind of mechanism to prevent you from falling limitlessly forward. So yeah, the front foot should stop your momentum. But even with that is a million nuances. Is your weight centered on your front-foot or between your feet when you stop? Anyway...I let you play and see for yourself. The question is not to ask what gives you more power (as you can generate power in tons of ways if you know how to leverage your position). You should be asking yourself what you want to do next...and then leverage your movements and position to give you that. Or maybe you just want OPTIONS, in that case pick the position/technique that gives you the most balance (so you can move in any direction afterwards).

@@expertboxing are you saying that by understanding what i want to do next, i'm gonna develop more power in my shots, or is it just that that's more important than developing a power shot?(i know it's different for every person so we would gave to go with case by case basis but still).

In short, no…that’s not what I said and also I think you didn’t get me. If you’re still thinking power, then that means you’re still very beginner and need to go back to the basics. Higher level fighters are focused more on strategy purely for the sake of strategy (not power).
