As someone who has 120 hours in the game, and yes actually in game, Austin is 100% right. The foundation has a lot of potential . Airship syndicate have done an amazing job so far fixing the queues for the most part and have been listening to the community. There's even a forum on their site where they are taking suggestions. This game has a lot of potential and from what I have seen, they will reach that potential eventually, its just a waiting game...in many ways.

Characters kits change based on the weapons used. Wingrave (where Austin talks about struggling to see why he'd use a ranged weapon on him) gets heals on eagle-eye shots (hot spot crits), his first ability becomes a lance that peirces ahead rather that a sword that arcs, and he can give party members shields on reloads. Same with Kyros the mage's passive ramping on hot-spot crits instead of melee finishers.
@winterwolfcr7 Жыл бұрын
One of the main reasons Airship games always look so amazing artistically speaking, is because of their founder Joe Madureira. He was a comic book artist first in the 90s. And it shows. His art is so amazing and I go for any game they put out since the OG Darksiders. (Yes they were a different company back then.)

Agreed. I'm really enjoying the game so I may be a little biased, but seeing Austin not recommend the game after all the positive things he has to say about it based on a week of server mishaps is a little disappointing. it's not really fair to call that a "launch", i know people paid money for it but the reaction to the server and game issues was completely unnecessary. I love this art style and I like the idea of this kind of game, but I’m feeling like the biggest drawback for me is how rigid combat seems though appearing flexible as Austin mentioned. I think it would benefit greatly from an overhaul, although that would definitely be something not taken lightly and certainly wouldn’t be accomplished overnight. Either keep the characters as just individual “classes” with clear affinities (Diablo style) or implement a variety of subclasses that can have one character play completely differently 2 or 3 different ways depending on their weapon choices and/or preferred combat styles.

I believe in independent studios and wish for them to compete in the big leagues, I love everything the CEO works on in comics and games, and it has one of the best gameplay in an online game I've seen. The server disaster was absolutely disappointing, especially with DE's backing, It's save to say nobody anticipated this, especially not in the scale it happened. However, woth most issues addressed as of now, more fixes on the way: i personally can't put the game down yet. I love Warframe, I loved Airship's previous games, so it's no surprise that I'm quite in love with this game, too. I know w lot of people asked for refunds because they couldn't log in the first few days, and i understand and respect that. But i don't regret my purchase at all. Now that it's in a playable and stable state, the few days of additional waiting are already forgotten. I do hope that this game finds its audience once it goes F2P, cause I'm looking forward to playing this for years to come.

I'm having a ton of fun with the game so far. The technical problems don't bother me much and i enjoy the gameplay loop. But I have to say it still needs time which is why it's good that it's in early access still. You mentioned that you don't see much reason to use ranged weapons on Wingrave and that it feels like you gimp yourself because your passive tells you that it only triggers on melee finishers. Which is incorrect and the tooltip should be corrected. Ranged weapons have weakspots that appear on enemies when you shoot them and if you are using a gun on wingrave shooting those weakspots triggers your passive just like if you have done a melee finisher. Not just that, Wingrave's first ability changes from a cleave into a longer ranged thrust if you equip a gun on him instead of a melee weapon. These two things are not stated anywhere in the game which is a shame and hopefully it'll be fixed soon. EDIT: the game also fails to tell you about that every weapon has an alternative attack like rifles doing melee attacks with the rifle stock, or the Sword and shield doing a shield attack combo for extra break damage, or how you can do an infinitely repeating cleaving combo with 2handed weapons if you alternate between heavy and light attacks. These are written down at the abilities tab if you hover over the weapon passives but it's still way too hidden and the game should draw attention to it.

The bit where Austin says “these guys make art that looks more Riot than Riot does” cracked me up a bit, because Joe Madureira’s comic work (including the original Battle Chasers comics in the late 90s) were almost certainly an influence on Riot’s art design when they were first creating League of Legends. I don’t mean that as a criticism, Joey Mads sort of faded from public consciousness when he jumped from comics to games, so he’s not all that well-known anymore; but some of us old school comics readers get a hit of nostalgia whenever he puts out a game. Of course what I’d really like to see is games taking visual inspiration from Bill Sienkiewicz, that’d be a sight to behold…

As some1 who's played a fair bit of Wayfinder in the Early acess I find this a fair overview and opinion on the game. My one gripe is that you didn't mention weapon mastery. Which is a currently a great way to customize your playstyle on the fly in the later stages of the game when you have multiple weapons unlocked. Just swapping to a different weapon for a specific boss fight or a different mastery type feels great.

I got bout 50 hours into Wayfinder. I'm really loving it, I loved Battle Chasers so I really wanted to support this game. The launch issues(not queues) still plague this game. Server isn't really stable and tons of bugs. As of writing this, content update 1 is somewhere between 1-3 weeks away and is suppose to also be a massive bug fix list. I think this game can go far, the foundation is amazing but when it means Early Access, it wears it on its sleeve. the customization is sick(being able to swap out parts from skins to mix match) and the battle pass being permanent once you buy it, meaning you can finish it a year down the road if you want is so neat. They've planned so much on their roadmap for the next 6 months and I hope they pull out at least half of it before 1.0

They did not fix much from the beta. I tried to like the game and was excited for it, but the gamelan feels dated and stale. Despite the server issues, I finally got to play and the game just feels empty in my opinion. When you attack enemies they just take your shots, do not get staggered nor react to the shots. The enemy AI also needs a lot of work. I hope they fix it, but I'm going to pass on this. Controller players will have to deal with a lot of bugs, and I mentioned it during the beta and the problem still persists along with its terrible map. Easy things to fix but they didn't.

The last few times I logged in there was virtually no queue time. That problem seems to mostly have been resolved. It's still pretty unpolished though.

"This game is basically Warframe, with a focus on Melee combat over gunplay".. You clearly haven't played enough Warframe...
