@@redsoxrox37 Strange reply. Bravado is false bravery... _a pretense_ intended to impress or intimidate. For example, today's rappers are all bravado, all bragging, all ego, all style over substance. And it's strange to say "has one" - Lol - has _A bravado?_ No, this wasn't bravado... Bobby Hatfield _had_ a quiet & reserved manner. A calm confidence which let his performance make it's own impression devoid of bravado. BTW - I checked out your vids and I saw you also _just performing..._ without any pretense or bravado. Bravo!

He was definitely an especially talented singer, but I wouldn't kid yourself about singers today lacking talent. That's an easy conclusion to reach just listening to a radio station because all of that is indeed quite processed, but who listens to a radio anymore? There are plenty of talented artists out there that are easy to reach directly without having to endure the filter of the corporate world. Might as well be sitting in front of a TV tuned to a channel with only advertisements playing all day. Find yourself a streaming service, pick something you like, and search for anything else like it. You'll have more content than you can ever consume and you can decide the quality for yourself.

@@n1ghtwhirl That's patently ridiculous, as many thousands of talented singers have performed live long before and after this man. You can and should value all talented singers. Who cares when or how? This tired idea that somehow the advancement of time is synonymous with the degradation of anything, including singing ability, is something every aging person ever has experienced. It's called declinism, and you should let it go.

Running around the same age group here, I don’t remember the women having quite the same reaction then but close. Plus our speakers weren’t as good then. I also agree that we did have some of the best music of the times. The right girl, the right 8 track, and the right car or place and you were bound to have a great night. And don’t forget we had some great dance music of all time, back when you would actually dance with the girl up close and slow. Funny how the Righteous Brothers were considered Rock and Roll back then. Don’t forget Elvis either. Yeah we had some great music in the “ Old Days “ . Haven’t been able to really dance with a girl to good music for a long time. Just my opinion of course.

It is believed that the legendary singer "Bobby Hatfield" did in fact bite his bottom lip, due to the fact that both his parents were in the audience, watching him sing. Apparently, he was shaking with nerves because Bobby had noticed them and didn't want to mess it up, which of course he didn't. With nerves of steel, he calmly walked out, held the mic and just sang, no auto-tune, no gimmicks, no effects, just him and his smooth soulful voice. What a performance on the Andy Williams show, they just don't make singers of that quality anymore.

Anyone, in the world, would be extremely hard pressed to surpass this MOST ICONIC love song. I was a young girl when this came out, and it was as amazing then as it is now. I believe this came out somewhere between in 1965-1967/8. It was such a different world back then. It was a simpler time, and most all guys were gentlemen because at that time, parents taught their young boys to always be kind, humble, and respect women. Today we have parents who just don’t give a crap. Sad, sad, sad, but true. He always was a crooner, and had the American girls/women eating out of the palm of his hand. And that, Ladies and Gentlemen, was the effect Bobby and his voice had on many a young woman, when this song came out, and all subsequent times it was played. Also, this is a testament to Bobby's singing ability, he sang this song live, no auto-tune, no tricks, just his natural ability at the age of 25. Also, Empress Joy-Jean, you are not alone in noticing Bobby bite his lip like that at the end of the song... many women noticed it as well lol

To be able to sing like this is a gift from God. The way Bobby Hatfield sang this cuts deep into your heart and soul. That is why there are no words that can do it justice. Also, this beautiful love song is in the movie "GHOST."

Now...when will the old folks start appreciating some of the good new music being created these days? Please don’t get me wrong, most new music is crap but so is most of the old stuff. For every great song or album there are hundreds of throwaways, then and now. It is out there but lazy people always resort to the same tired old statements about how “new music is terrible”, “back in my day”, etc... Pick a genre, any genre, and the good stuff is still being written, recorded, and even played live with “real instruments”. The day you stop finding new music to enjoy is the day you stop living and start dying.

"Why did he bit his lower lip?" That was a unintentional facial expression because he knew he just nailed that song. He did not sing those highs on the original studio version. Probably did not know he just did the best single love song performance ever but he knew he nailed it.

Back then, men respected women and expressed how much they loved them. Today's music is all about degrading them instead of respecting and honoring them as they should. That's why these young women are so emotional hearing these songs. They don't know what it's like to hear and see how they should be treated. Different times, different eras.

I have said this SO many times. Men and women were designed by God as equals, but not as identicals. We are wired differently, period, and that's why this music (and classic, positively masculine behavior in general) hits modern women with such emotional force - they aren't ready for it, haven't been primed to expect it, and thus it hits them at a deep, subconscious level. If you watch reaction videos to this song, it is ALWAYS the same.

He bit his lower lip because he had been very nervous beforehand about his parents being in the audience at such an important performance. He was no doubt looking at them when he did it. I think the the bite was a reaction to nailing that last note and seeing the look of pride on his parents faces at that exact moment.
