The one and only fabulous Bobby Hatfield. No one ever can sing this song like Bobby. He owns this song. He took a little known song and made it one of the greatest love songs for the ages. Unchanged Melody is the most covered song ever sung and this isn't his original, recorded version that we hear in the movie "Ghost". This is a 24 yr. old Bobby Hatfield, as nervous as could be, singing with a cold, with his mom in the audience seeing her son sing live on tv to and audience and a viewer ship of well over 1 million people, on one of the most popular shows on tv at the time. He changed up the song and showcased the high range of his vocals; and he did it to perfection!!

Bobby Hatfield was a countertenor, the rarest of tenor types=a male singer who can reach soprano or mezzo-soprano range. No matter who covers this song, Bobby Hatfield 'owns' it forever, in my opinion. Your face at the end said it all for me. 🤣😅🤣😅Yes, you've heard his audio release of this song.....countless times, just as, we all have. How very easy it was, to lull us back, to 'fall into' the memory of that audio release.... because Bobby sang it here, live, flawlessly.......ahhh......what a jolt back to reality, (oh yeah...he was singing live), when he added those ending, over the top, soprano & mezzo-seprano vocals, so effortlessly, reminding us how very epic & non-duplicatable his voice really is! 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍😍😍😍😍😍💃🤩🤩

Best version hands down of this classic song. Absolutely loved the Righteous Brothers. Sadly we lost Bobby Hatfield about 20 years ago. He had a beautiful one of a kind voice. This is called blue-eyed soul. These guys were the best. Bobby Hatfield with his beautiful tenor voice & Bill Medley with his deeper voice. They were magic together. And remember this is done live. No auto-tuning crap like today. And the songs had meaningful beautiful lyrics. Other songs by them are "Soul & Inspiration", "Just Once In My Life", "Ebb Tide", "Rock & Roll Heaven", "Little Latin Lupe Lu" etc. Home Free recently did a great version of this song. And Austin Brown also did a very beautiful tribute of this song a few years ago. You may want to check them out.

Thank you so much for reacting to Bobby sing this epic hit. It's his voice that you hear singing this in Ghost. Blue-eyed soul at its best. Like you stated, nothing comes close to this version. They made this one the hit that still resonates with us today. A timeless classic. What a voice he had. It was smooth as velvet. Their voices together meshed so well. "Soul and Inspiration " with their harmonies comes in 2nd only to this one. As someone mentioned, Home Free did a great cover of this. But nothing will ever compare to Bobby Hatfield's voice. I'm so glad you saw this live version. You would be surprised that a lot of reactors really thought they were brothers because of their name 😊. Much love to you and your family ❤️ 🫂.

Hi Saeed I really liked your reaction to this song. Here’s a lit more history on it. I don’t know if anyone mentions this (after 18 hours passed from your post {over 190 comments}), I didn’t read all the comments.Their manager- or boss at that time was Phil Specter. (A person who was not always looked upon kindly) He used this song as space filler for the ‘B’ side of a ‘45’. I don’t remember what the ‘A’ side was. His main reason! Was this was a no nothing song. He “didn’t think it would be a hit”! Bill Medley ended up producing this piece for Bobby. I believe Bill was mocking Phil Specter when he used the quote.😂

Bill was joking... this was Bobby's solo on their album...Bill produced the album and played piano on the Studio version. It was never intended as a single release. Phil Specter chose to put it on the B side of the intended hit (Hung on You) and the rest is history.... This song touches everyone because the Righteous Brothers were 'soul singers'. They felt the music and could make the audience feel it too. When this song out from Bobby the Viet Nam War was raging and it was taken on by those men and women separated by so much....he dedicated it to them. (Bobby had already done his service.)
@tahliasgoddaddy2 ай бұрын
Yes, Bill played piano on the studio version but at the time neither had any idea it would be such a huge hit. When it was, Bill made certain that for every subsequent performance there would be a pro accomplished piano player to backup Bobby on the song. Bill didn't think his piano playing talent did a hit of this magnitude justice. Both of these guys were really very down to earth good people.
