This has been such a nice relaxing video to watch, i need to get out my loom again! love the use of the coat rack, i'll have to look into something similar, might make warping on easier these days with a worse body than before.. and a (to her) very helpful kitten.

omg, you're awesome! 🥳 so, I love how amazing you are at yarn work, tarn is not my jam - but your video topnotch, so "hi!" from a nest subscriber 👋😄 who knows, perhaps you'll even inspire me to pick up yarn of textile stuff Lots of love from Denmark

Thanks for the video. I'm trying to figure something like you use for my limited space at home and disability. Our LYS has a warping board that they lowered for me to sit in a chair to use. So far that's my best option and they are so kind at Yellow City Fibers.

Maybe someday I'll have the space & time for weaving but for now, I like to use your videos for the start of my daily crochet period. Thank you for showing us how you've adapted your craft for your current physical abilities. Someone once asked me why I always have 2 wips & it's cuz one is always a bulky to get my fingers limber then I switch to a finer yarn.

Hi Took, I keep thinking about your floor loom and ways you might use your current set up to wind warps to indirectly warp the loom. Have you had any progress figuring that out? I have thoughts, but not living in your body, I don’t want to make unhelpful or incorrect assumptions. What I do know is you have a viewer following that appreciates how you share your experiences, resiliency, resourcefulness, and I believe the community you created could help with ideas that, as you say, you can take what works and leave the rest. Let us know how we might help you adapt your adaptive method for a different loom.

I like that your using that rack to help warp the loom❤ we make tools as needed to accommodate what my needs are.too. a lot the stuff we do with our disability. Have to keep on being busy 😊

@@GirlScoutLoriC I currently have it in storage, as I just don't have the space in my current studio with the amount of materials I also need to store. But I'll be getting it going as soon as I can.

May I ask if you have not already covered this question/topic in your previous videos, might you be open to sharing what you do at the beginning of each do new project, right past where you stopped this video, when you put your green towel in position at the front bar. What do you do and why...before you start the actual wove project. I am getting ready to buy my 1st RHL and I also have EDS. I see some weavers put various items to build up their weave before they use their good fibre. Some use wooden sticks, long thin pieces of cardboard, cotton batting in a rope format, or old waste yarns, most of these videos I have watched, have some form of this two types of products stuffed into their warp strings before they start their actual woven project. If you have covered this elsewhere, may I ask what video name or number. What purpose does it serve? Does it change your weaving if you do not use it? Does a weaver just get better over time and no longer use it at some point of a weavers' journey? Or is it always used. I see weavers do it but so far I am not understanding why? and what it does to the woven project. Thanks in advance.

So for me I just start weaving with the yarn I intend to work with. And I adapt the tightness of my warp ties to the bottom apron bar depending on what type of fiber I work with. If I'm working with wool I can have wider half hitch knots at the bottom because it will steam block into place later on, but if I'm working with acrylic I use thinner half hitch knots because I won't be able to use that steam hack. The reason weavers will build up their weaving ahead of time is to get the correct tension on their warp. It's a matter of personal preference which methods you use. I personally find the towels to provide enough tension and cushioning for the warp, but I don't know if that method would translate well to larger looms. I hope this helps!

@@HawksongWeaving thank you for explaining it, I haven seen also where some weavers lace with a diff cord onto the front bar...one lady I seen finally pointed out to the tension issues... I had not noticed it before... I guess when ppl are so new to weaving, we see some stuff and think we understand it, and then notice more the next time you watch the same info as now we have more knowledge of the processes. I seen you use the towel on back bar, but did not notice it on the front bar.... I had to go back and re-watch a few again to understand what you were doing at the front of the weaving . Thx for taking the time to respond. I am hoping to buy a RHL in March. Fearful I won't be able to do it with the EDS, but excited and really want to do it. You have given me the inspiration to try. Thx

@@yarnymcyarn I'm so glad my answer was helpful! Yeah, weaving is one of those things that you build on via experience. There were so many swears and frustration breaks and desire to defenestrate my loom during my initial learning curve. That's also something to note: most weavers on youtube aren't beginners. We've been doing this for a while, and with that comes forgetting some things because it's become muscle memory.

Am I correct that your loom is not secured to the table while warping? How does it not slide to the left? I have no physical reason to adopt your method except that my back sometimes doesn’t like it so much. Ok, that is a reason! My desk would work perfectly, except that the free end for the clamp is to my right. I even have three of those expandable racks. When folded up they're 9", 12", and 16.5" from end. How long is yours? You spoke of hands...do you realize how graceful yours are while going through the various steps?
@HawksongWeaving
@HawksongWeaving 4 күн бұрын
It's not attached, you're right! Good eye! It doesn't slide to the left because I'm partially putting my weight on it with my right arm for that first bit until the tension of the warp itself holds the loom away from the warping board. Also you don't need to be in pain to use this method! There's no gate keeping here! Simply not wanting to spend $150 on a warping rack is more than enough reason! This also works in the other direction, and I've done that before, this is just my current desk configuration. All told my current warping space is about 3 feet long, with warping on different pegs I'm able to reliably get enough yardage for a scarf (about 6.5 feet) or a weaving blank (about 9 feet). It's just figuring out which winding pattern to do on the board.
