Rigoletto was the first opera my dad ever took me to see, at the Met. Actually he bought the wrong tickets - he meant to take me to see Hansel and Gretel, and once he realized his mistake he tried to get us to leave, thinking the opera would bore me. But I refused to leave. And he told me that from the very beginning to the very end I was mesmerized. From then on I fell madly in love with opera. Hearing every moment of this brings my dad right back to me. Thank you dad… I love you so much.

Anyone (younger person) who kind of likes the "classic" opera melodies should see a favorite opera performed live. There is NOTHING like it any more. They are guaranteed to increase their realm of musical appreciation. My favorite is when I attended a live performance of "Il Travatore" at a local high school (by adults); followed in second place by a performance of Wagner's "Die Walkure" with a full orchestra.

I had the fortune at my high school to partecipate at a extracurricolar project called "all'opera, all'opera". They let us see at the famous "San Carlo" theater great operas chosen by 3 possible sequences of titles. You chose one and with €10 (for each opera) you could see the operas (and Also ballets) but before you saaw the opera/ballet there was a discussion about it... It was one of the most marvellous experience of my life... I have seen 10 or more operas there at "San Carlo" theater... I had so much good luck by experiencing that magic...

I remember going to the opera with some friends many years ago, we had pretty bad seats all the way in the back. I was blown away by the talent of the singers, it was well worth the expensive tickets. A memory I'll always cherish is when this song started, unexpectedly : I could see from where I was everyone's head bobling to the music, from left to right, it was surreal. Like, everyone was so happy that at long last this iconic song started playing. Good times

Case you missed it, pizza is not the only Italian food. Italy has the best cooking in the world. And surely we make pizza better than any other country. Oh, by the way, Pavarotti was from Modena. So instead of pizza you can think to "Gnocco, tigelle, Lambrusco, salumi". Have a nice dinner

@@Senna-78 It's so easy to ruffle Italian people's feathers, it's not even fun anymore. Also - I've had dinner in Italy on many occasions, and your food isn't that special. Have you even tried true Mexican or Greek cuisine? Indonesian is amazing as well. But Italian food? Not even a bloody Chili pepper in sight, just loads of salt and parmigiano to cover up the lack of flavour. The only good things coming from Italy are Verdi, Botticelli and Luciano Pavarotti.

Luciano Pavarotti (R.I.P.) He was a master and genius of classical music. A voice to be remembered for many centuries. Always perfect in intonation and interpretation. Simply madrigal. P.S.: I always thought of him playing in the cinema the Brutus of the adventure of the sailor Popeye. It was enough for a sailor outfit. And he would be 100% ready for the role.

It's probably not what you meant, but just in case. You do know of course that this is not "Pavarotti's music". This is music by Giuseppe Verdi, and it's not a stand-alone song either, it's an aria from opera Rigoletto. But you probably used it as a figure of speech, just clarifying in case someone misunderstands you. Pavarotti was a great singer, one of the best tenors ever; I feel lucky having heard him live, but he wasn't a composer. I am sure you know it, but some people may be confused.
