Tooling experiment using the 25 ton. With a "shelf" off the back of the machine, one can extend their tooling. So, this is the idea: Templates that bolt to the bar to be forged, along with height blocks to control the forged dimension. Why make hex bar? I need it for the next project, looked all over town and no one had it. Also, to order a batch is costly, 5 times the cost of round bar. This setup will be perfect for small batches and for prototyping. All the best,
John Rigoni

Another plus from forging a hex...all mechanical properties of the steel used are very much improved, tensile strength, resistance to bending, twisting,toughness, ect.

Just out of curiosity, what are the beginning dimensions and final dimensions? It looks near perfect, very well done.

Thanks, the starting stock is 1" round. I machined some slack in the tooling to account for random hot rolled barstock. The finished forging is 3/4" hexagon.

@@rigoniironworks how much length did that add?
@rigoniironworks
@rigoniironworks 5 күн бұрын
From 1 to 3/4 it almost doubles in length. 20min to forge 20".

@@rigoniironworks that's quite funny, earlier today I was watching a Torbjörn Åhman video that mentioned you, so I looked at your channel and was a bit sad to see you hadn't made a video in so long. Glad to watch a new vid of yours!

Very nice! 🙂 Like this Job! Without tools from 19th Ct and 20th Ct. you would be a little more like Arnold Schwarzenegger right? 😀 Better like you are, looks normal! I have to remember Asterixs Ironworker/Village-Smith.

@gerry343 it's just that I like to watch a video that feels like I'm visiting a friend shop for a bit, just saying hey. Staying out of the way, watching what they are doing. When there is nothing said it is almost as if I am intruding and should not be there.

For these videos, I want the viewer to see the process as if they are standing in the shop as I'm working. I despise ego, so I don't look at the camera, have a cliche series of dialogue, etc.. It's not about me, just the beauty of the work and process. Also, my work revolves around pushing the craft forward and new tooling and ideas to get there.

For sure. I was in a bind, where none were local and I would have to buy a large order+wait two weeks. This tooling helps me bridge the gap.
