This is why I love her and Beyoncé so much. They carved lanes for themselves and what was true to them. When artists are authentic to who they really are it’s when they have success- you can feel their passion for it and when they’re copying off of other people you don’t really care to know said artists. You can have similarities but no one wants the same artist that we already have/had. Aaliyah was different, Beyonce was different, Rihanna was different, Lil Kim was different that’s why they stood out and people fell in love with them and they weren’t compared to others This album put people on notice and to pay attention to Rih and she’s been that girl since

I still remember when the umbrella video dropped and everyone had the song on their Myspace page, girls were running to get their hair cut like Rihanna we all knew Rihanna was about to become an icon. I went to her GGGB concert in MSG and had such a good time, there were no phones even though we had cellphones and would snap a few pics of her on our phones and cameras you were really in the moment, dancing singing and talked about for days, I even lost my voice lmao. the live band, the transitions and the way the songs were sung different than on the album and she was having so much fun on stage it was incredible. Question Existing is a favorite of mine and could easily be placed on the Anti album and would've fit in perfectly right after Consideration, I also love Sell Me Candy because you can hear her accent on the song, Say It and GGGB.

That Rihanna reign just won't let up. I definitely agree about the new artists not knowing about real grinding as an artist, they have social media doing everything for them. they also have no social skills, media training and rely on their fans to be their mouth pieces. Back in the day they were doing press runs, and like 5 interviews in one day, then having to perform on top of that. Alot of them wouldn't be artists if it weren't for social media because they just like the fame but are extremely lazy or full of themselves. Victoria Monet, Sabrina, Chloe, Halle and Coco are the only ones who understand performance, have stage presence and know the work that goes into being a real artist and not trying to be just another pop girl

She definitely didn’t care to follow other people that’s what made me love her, you can tell she felt free and like she was finally able to be herself. I still love MOTS. Rihanna did what needed to be done for herself and to be so young and do that took courage and boldness. Some artists are meant to be daring and rule breaking

I love that she came into the culture and didn't feel the need to ever speak down on bla ck Americans, she's always been proud of being from Barbados, while also embracing our culture- a lot of these artists come into our spaces, looking to benefit and take from us while bashing at the same time. She's a real one and has always been. beauty, humble and an icon 💗

Say thattttttt!!!! Because they love coming into our culture copying and imitating what WE started and then after they’ve gained success they want to disrespect us. We need to learn to gatekeep

So real about the small box they put black artists in. I tended to not listen to r&b after awhile bc it was so boring since everyone did the same thing. I loved that she was doing emo edgy kinky rock star and showed actual freedom that lots of black women get told they can't do.

After GGGB, it feels like she exploded so fast. I definitely attribute that to her releasing an album every 1 or 2 years for about 5 albums. I wish more artists would do that, but I can only imagine the toll that takes on you.

I've been a fan of Rihanna since I was 6 after receiving her Good Girl Gone Bad CD. First ModernGurlz covered her and now you. I'm glad that her accomplishments and fashion moments are mentioned and not her abusive relationship with Chris Brown as many people have.
@beautelle10652 ай бұрын
She actually did her videos wayyy BEFORE ModernGurlz and did mulitple videos on Rihanna talking about her fashion and hair in separate videos. this isn't her first Rihanna video and I think mentioning CB on this video didn't need to be mentioned because like you said no one was speaking about him, it's about Rihanna's accomplishments and her being an icon.

Yess everyone had that shhh and love tattoo lmao the girls were all copying her. What I loved was how Jay believed in her and always spoke about how she was destined to be a star and whether people like him or not his stamp of approval back then was hugeee and then being on the song also helped. Jay didn't do many features (even though she was his artist through def jam) and he said from the jump he knew it was going to be a hit and spoke about how he was proud of her finding herself when it came to her image and music. Sometimes letting a young artist just do whatever they want can cause an issue, money that was invested to be lost and the loss of direction but with Rihanna she just wanted to be herself that's why it worked out so well, she still the same til' this day just more mature

I would mute the tv as soon as the commercial came on 😂 as a day one fan like you I was so happy when showed who she really was, you can just tell she felt so free- even her performances were different. I got my album from Best Buy the day it dropped and played it until it scratched and started skipping lol. Lemme Get That, Sell Me Candy and Breakin' Dishes went triple platinum in my house lmao

thank you for the video. loved 90% of her eras. i agree there was extremely more effort naughties and prior though i do believe there is a true level of attention those artist wanted and to be celebrated for, no shame. i look at artist like Juls, Frank Ocean and Jungle, they do not sell their face as much or at all. we don't think about them but the feeling of the music. I belive that's fine we all want attention one way or another.

Unpopular opinion: This was all marketing. Which is fine, this era ate. The whole cutting her hair "a decesion that couldn't be taken back", ummm it was all hair weave either way. They took out the light weave and sewed in a dark one. Poor thing doesn't even have a part. And she did this right before her album called... Good Girl Gone Bad. Doubt the label wanted her to have the same exact look as before, and they wanted to differentiate her from Beyonce.
