Purchased a 2017 Momentum 56,400 miles three months ago. Love the drive feel and handling but starting to question the reliability. I had the dealership do 60,000 mile service which also included new spark plugs. Two weeks later got stuck at a store it wouldn’t start needed a new starter. Now a week later check engine light on my reader saying possible oxygen sensor code P0137 and another code. Taking to a specialist tomorrow instead of the dealership. Wondering if I should trade it in getting worried about reliability.

Every person who buys new cars ... is just loving piece of mind and ignoring the ridiculous amount of depreciation. Also every time I bought a warranty with a car I never spent as much on repairs as I did on the warranty... again you’re paying for “peace of mind” but the reality is most warranties do not cover any of the maintenance... so what’s the point ?

Cars have so much tech that repair bills soon mount up. I had a Lexus RX450h and one day the boot wouldn’t open. It was in for repair for sometime as the mechanics couldn’t find the problem. Eventually they replaced a pcb and charged me £1000. I also had a very low mileage BMW 116. It kept cutting out and BMW replaced various sensors but it started happening again, nobody seemed to be able to trace the fault so I had to sell it at a low price. I am thinking my current XC60 should be swapped when the warranty runs out.

I haven't bought a used XC90 but I did buy a new 2019. At only 5000 miles / 8000 km the compressor pump for the air suspension went out. The dealer got me in that day and replaced the part under warranty with zero cost to me all in the same day and gave me a free loaner car while they were working on it (about 3 hours). I was surprised at how quick that went bad, but was very happy with how my Volvo dealer resolved the problem. Fingers crossed that was not a sign of bad things to come because I really do love my XC90.

(Covered by warranty). 3) diesel pre-heater not working, service + new battery, €350 not covered by warranty. 4) Power pulse repair, covered by warranty. 5) A general recall due to the engine issue related to the EGR. Is it worth buying out the car when the lease expires. It has run only 11,000 KM as of today and the buy back value is about Canadian $ 45,000.00 excluding tax. Hi Kris, I bought a CPO 2016 XC90 last year from the dealership together with their extended warranty, which covers to September 2025. The extended warranty is around $3300. After 5000 miles driving within the first 6 month, I noticed that there is a rattle issue around the steering wheel. To be more specific, it sounds like something between the steering wheel and the instrument panel is loose. This only happens when I'm driving faster than 60mph on a freeway and the road is kind of rough. Do you think I should ask the dealership to solve this issue? I'm worried about they would tell me this is "normal" for a 4-year-old car. Other than this rattle issue, I'm pretty happy with it so far. Thanks so much!

@JulezWinnfield4 жыл бұрын
Two words......hell yeah! I added the Polestar software upgrade two years ago to my 2017 XC90 T6 R-Design and the powertrain improvements are noticeable. One newer improvement is the rear wheel drive torque bias which sends 80% of the engine power to the rear wheels in Dynamic mode. You can find dealer discount coupons for 10-20% off the Polestar software upgrade. Lastly, the Polestar rear liftgate badge lets you sit at at Volvo's cool kids table....👍

These new SPA cars have some defect in eating brakes and rotors really fast and Volvo can't seem to come forward about it yet there are countless forms of people complaining about it whether it'd be the new XC90, XC60, XC40, etc. Yes, the XC90 is a heavy car but I still find no exception. We had a 2012 Nissan Quest which weighs around 200 pounds more than the XC90 and didn't have to replace pads or rotors until like 70k miles. Unacceptable on Volvo.

Depending on your income and preference, Volvo cars of any nature and model have endless issues. Especially electronics, suspension and pumps. I drive a Volvo XC90 V8 2007 model bought in 2015 at 150,000km. First two years were great, I only remember changing only the four discs. At the moment I have replaced all pumps from fuel pump in the tank to a water pump. Currently I am replacing the ECU unit, throttle body and YAW sensor(had previously replaced a new one in 2018). The cause was water leaking through the windscreen base that spoilt the entire hand brake system. The list is endless. I just love the comfort of the car and its agility on the road. So I agree with you Kris, a warrant is necessary. Buying a Volvo will require you to have another car for a fall back position because the repairs are endless, so you end up not having the car to drive. Best place to repair from is from an authorized Volvo dealer. In conclusion, if you’re faint hearted don’t buy a car that will keep the maintenance bill so high. One thing I commend about Volvo, the spares are always readily available around the world!
@benjaminsmith22874 жыл бұрын
I haven't had major issues with my s80 from 2002. It's a T6. However, the last 6 years I haven't driven it many miles per year. Major issue, fuel pump replacement, radiator fan replacement. Everything else is the usual, brakes/rotors, replace struts at one time, did the timing belt when recommended and a few sensors went bad and were a few hundred dollars to replace. It was a certified used Volvo from a dealer but it has been off of warranty for 10 or more years now. I feel lucky because I think your advise is good. Have a big budget for Volvos, they are premium European cars, things do go wrong, and you may have to spend big money to keep them running. I think, Kris gives great advice here as do you about where Volvos are problematic. I may replace my 02 not because it doesn't run fantastically and feels quite middle-aged, not old, but because a big expense is down the road. But, I'll go the CPO route again even though the dealers overcharged for the cars.
