Very emotional for me to hear Rik has prostrate cancer. Been a huge Triumph fan since 1979. Corresponded with Rik years ago and met him in my hometown for a show. He's a good guy and I wish him the strength to fight the cancer. I'll be praying for you Rik.

Said it's early. That's means it's within the prostate gland still. That's curable. If it's a certain size, doctors say wait and watch. Best option is to shrink it with radiation, first, some advise last, then injection of Trelstsr, a estrogen modeling factor. Taking it out means incontinence. I took my first PSA test at 49, declared cured five years later.

Eleven year stage-four prostate cancer survivor now. My blood tests and even my scans were clean when I was already stage four. For some reason, my cancer didn't put out any PSA. The scan showed nothing because the entire prostate was cancerous, so there was no contrast area. It had already spread to my bones by the time it was found. So, my message is that blood tests alone might not be enough in some cases. They are with most people, but some people (like me) don't have PSA problems. There's no substitute for Dr. Jelly Finger. Sorry, men, but you need to hear this. And there's my public service announcement for the day. Rik, you've been my guitar hero since I was 15. Much love and support to you, my friend!

I was almost crushed when getting near the stage to see Triumph at the US Festival because I was drawn to Rik's wonderful human spirit. I'm so happy to see that he still possesses that spirit. God bless you Rik. John, thank you for another fantastic interview.

I don’t know what to say, besides to wish Rik all the best in this fight. He’s one of my favorite musicians and, having had the pleasure of meeting him, just the nicest, most genuine guy. He was so gracious, funny and kind. Ugh, this hurts. Godspeed, Rik, you amazing human being. ❤

Never let your Doctor tell you don’t take the PSA test. That test is why I’m still alive today. 6 yrs ago my doctor called me about my test saying that it spiked and I should go get some biopsies. I had cancer, and the urologist recommended removal. That was early summer 6 yrs ago, and by the end of Oct that yr it was out. So far so good. I got my PSA done on my birthday every yr. It’s worth it. The thing about Not checking your PSA, and that’s if you get prostate cancer just think of all the organs close by. It would travel quickly . Best of luck Rik, and don’t waste time, if removal is needed.
@donfisher8035 Жыл бұрын
Damn right. My doctor said I was fine until I insisted on a second PSA and that justified the $3,000 biopsy. I was 49. I'm 65 now. Had I not insisted, curtains....

My last PSA was over 4 so I had to schedule a biopsy. My results were negative. Please, if you're reading this, keep up with your blood tests, etc. , and follow your doctor's instructions. I saw Triumph nine times and Rik solo five times. He's my favorite guitarist (sometimes tied with Eric Johnson)

I'll definitely be getting the book. Worked in different parts of the music biz for almost 40 years, and Rik was about the nicest. kindest, most authentic gentleman I ever met. Oddly, one of his bandmates was almost the polar opposite, but I digress. Rik is also the most talented guitarist who also possesses a one-in-10-billion gift of a voice. He is so under-rated vocally, because his mastery of the guitar is so blinding. Great interview, and good luck to Rik with the medical stuff, I think he has the right attitude, as usual.

Guys, take care of your health. Do it for yourself, but also for your partner/kids/family, etc. Prostate cancer is sneaky. It killed Frank Zappa at 51 but in the vast, vast majority of cases it is extremely treatable. But that doesn't mean you can just keep putting things off. Get the proper testing done at the appropriate age. My annual blood draw a few weeks ago showed a rise in my PSA and I was sent for a totally painless MRI of the prostate a couple weeks later. I've got a biopsy scheduled Dec. 15. The biopsy will be under a "twilight" sedation and there will be zero discomfort. Good luck, Rik!

I pray for you and hope that your sweet wife will love and care for you, as she was done for ages. I learn to play my electric guitar, so you are my favorite guitarist and my role model in many aspects. I even write my own poems... You are so brave to open up about it. That's terrible to hear, but that's life... Your lyrics were my personal anthems... Don't be discouraged... Fight the good fight every moment, every day... and be saved by love!

Music has been as vital to my life as my heartbeat is . As we progress on this journey music tastes change and evolve. A lot of bands you look back and think what was I thinking and others you overdose on but the all play pivotal roles and are building blokes to a present moment of musical taste .I have just turned 60 and Triumph were a major part of my musical foundation.Allied Forces blew my mind and was hooked from that album and still love it today . Thunder Seven is a classic also . But most of all , thank you Rik for all the brilliant music you , Mike and Gil gave to the world and know in your heart you changed and directed lives in a way that have so much greater value than all the money combined ever made through your extraordinary talents. I sincerely wish you well with the bad news and look forward to reading your book . Thank you , all way from Australia.

Rik. I'm 76. My father and grandfather died as a result of prostrate cancer. I'm not a doctor. I'm an engineer. I don't have prostrate cancer and I won't get it. Why can I be so sure, I don't trust doctors. They are not taught to think. So what causes prostrate cancer, its inflammation of the prostrate gland. Why does it get inflamed? In flamation is caused by a lack of zinc. The prostrate gland is the biggest user of zinc in the body. Start taking zinc supplements today and never stop.

Both of my grandpas died at 91 and 92 y/o, but what ultimately caused their death was prostate cancer. I also have uncles on both sides of the family that were treated for prostate cancer. It runs in the family, and it's scary. I go see my urologist once a year for a prostate exam and a PSA blood test. I fully trust my Dr, but I suppose a missed diagnosis is still possible.

I just went through this process in the past year - robotic surgery (In Hamilton Ontario) was the route I chose. This video is about 10 months old at this point so I imagine Rik has moved well along through the surgery cycle if that's the route he chose. If not, I'd be happy to share my pre and post operative experience if he's looking for input. The process ain't fun but in the grand scheme of things, not all that bad.
