Wow I don't think I ever heard Mayall doing an American accent. Great upload!

Thanks. I must admit that when I started on this project to upload from my video collection, I never would have guessed that this and Boom Boom Out Go The Lights would have garnered the most interest.

Love this. Thanks for sharing. I mention this in my 'Early Rik:Thoughts Of A Clown' book.

He's performing at the big one in the sky nowadays. Rik was exhilarating to watch, especially at character comedy. Hence why his show The New Statesman was so brilliantly hilarious. R.I.P Rik Mayall.

One of those instances of being too good. The man nailed it.

Never seen this one before! EVERYTHING this man did is just brilliant. Rik was something else.

Class act. He's got the bad material down pat, the accent's good enough, and he's got balls. Rick's New Statesman character would be right at home in today's Slimy-toady party. Nice dog.

To repeat what I have added to the blurb, if you enjoyed watching Rik as an arrogant character with no self-awareness in front of a completely bemused audience who don't know if this is meant to be funny or not, then can I direct you to his appearance on the 1982 sketch show Wood and Walters, which I have just added? There he plays Mitch, a male chauvinist pig (as they used to be called in those days) who has deluded himself that he is a feminist. It can be found here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHuyaqucbceGoMk

Brilliant - thanks for posting - have you got any other clips from Friday Night Saturday morning? I've been looking for the French and Saunders appearance for years

"The presenter has to tell them afterwards that it wasn't a real American " It wasnt funny I guess you had to be there.

That was shite.

Yes! It was supposed to be, just like all American stand up comedian's are shite! He is taking the piss out of them, and doing a pretty perfect portrayal of them.

It was meant to be. See the shots of the nearly empty audience. This was the era of the anti-joke - the joke being that the material was deliberately funny. It didn't always come across though, as it certainly didn't for the real studio audience (which wasn't empty).

@@billbobmatthews It was a tired stereotype no one bought.

Just your personal taste. The rest all audiences love it. Do you even know Rik Mayall?❤
