I always thought about how Jimin usually takes a few nanoseconds more with his moves and I have a theory. This is completely my opinion, I've never danced (school, pro) but I have always watched competitions, ballet and socially danced. I think why Jimin takes those extra seconds is to finish the movement all the way. I finalized this idea in my head after watching the contemporary piece he participated in with the other Idols. Watching him perform the piece with other Idols who maybe were supposed to have around the same level of knowledge is when I first noticed it. Someone on twitter said oh he's behind and I said no, he isn't. Really watch him and if you did you would notice that yes Jimin seems to be behind if you only watch the other dancers but what you aren't seeing is JImin is taking the movement to its end point to flow into the next movement. Everyone else has minute little starts and stops because they aren't fully articulating the moves. So it can look like he's behind but he hits the next motion at the same time because he follows the flow of the piece. I love the end part with Jimin in the center. I think him pushing and doing that stomp the way he is fits perfectly. There's a huge key change there and it's the end of the song. Like many of BTS' choreos, the end of the song is when they dance the hardest. So it completely fits with their style.

I'm not a dancer too but i totally agree with this! I remember seeing it in the slowed down dance practice for ON where people said he was behind on the moves but actually he was on beat and the other members were just a fraction of a second too fast. There's always an extension of some sort to the moves Jimin makes which is him executing the move to its extent :)

"over-exaggeration of the body" - I think his classical training is paying off here! Extension and body shape are key to contemporary. I've always thought that Jimin's foundations give him such a unique style and incredible execution when he dances to their choreo :) Jungkook excels in precision and power, Jhope in groove and strong hiphop foundations, and Jimin shines in execution and performance!

My happy song! I've listened to the song and watched the MVs a billion times and I still smile and dance every time, it brings me so much happiness. The utter JOY they exude is so palpable, I love it so much! You can clearly see that they had a lot of fun with this choreo, they each bring their own unique flair. One example is the grove at 8:49 where they each do it differently and it works, doesn't feel forced. I will agree though that it gets in the way sometimes where more unison in the arm movement would be preferable. Especially when they have very satisfying moments where their arms are perfectly aligned. It's a fact that Jimin keeps stealing the spotlight every time he is on screen. I've seen a couple of side-by-side videos of him and MJ doing those moves and it's uncanny. He's really leaning into every movement and he's got those extra details that spice things up. Like how he adds a little twirl to his left hand at 15:58 or shakes his right hand at 28:49 gives it an authentic touch. He rally suits this style. at 20:28, V is almost a gravitational force, pulling the members in his wake effortlessly. With the background, he's like a boat creating waves behind it, it's physics, it can't be helped. Also, the intro where JK is left alone felt like a representation of what it feels like to get lost in a song and start dancing, just or the fun of it: the crowd fades away and the spotlight is his, it's his moment. OK, I'll stop rambling now. Thank you for creating this safe space and for your lovely videos, I learn a lot while being thoroughly entertained. Keep up the good work, stay safe and take care.

Soooo, I was thinking of all the random backstage moments that have shown Jimin being playful/silly with any of their choreo and he tends to really amp up the hip movements and sass. And this choreo is ALL hips and sass and fun. Maybe that’s why he seems to be enjoying it so much. The key change stomping! It really reminds me of gospel singers there for a second. And I love that part so much.

It makes me so sad that no one ever mentions Yoongi's dancing. You didn't mention his dancing once in this video (I know it's hard to talk about every member, but you talked about everyone except him.) So I wanted to point out some parts that I think he does really well. When they transition @21:30, Yoongi does a really nice and clear body roll, smoothly puts his arms in the air, and then does the sweep of the hands over the hair move. You actually mentioned not liking this part (@21:30) because of the hand movement not being clear. It looks like (after watching the dance practice) that the front two people (behind the person standing in front) point forward, and the four in the further back are suppose to raise their arms in the air. Jimin though, (he does this in the dance practice too) points forward when he is suppose to raise his arms. I'm pretty sure this is an accident, he probably doesn't know he is doing the wrong move because he points forward every time. But it does throw off the symmetry with the four in the furthest back because they are all suppose to raise there hands but he points forward instead. The other part that I like from Yoongi (other than his little solo) is at 25:49. You mentioned that you liked how aggressively Jimin does the move when they stand up in progression (and I agree). But I also really like how aggressively Yoongi does it, and specifically how he punches his arm a little higher in the air every time to the beat. Anyway that's it, thank you for coming to my ted talk lol. Don't get me wrong I LOVE your videos Riki, I just also love Yoongi's dancing and I wish people would appreciated it more.

If Jimin does it in the dance practice and you continue to see it, it's not a mistake. It might have been at one time but if it made it to the practice that they show US, it's now a part of the choreo. It might have been Jimin couldn't remember to not point so they told him to keep doing it because he does it every time. I also love the power arm thrusts Yoongi does for the final choreo. I think we don't talk about Yoongi because he isn't flashy. He's good and solid no matter where you place him. Like I love his center in the ON dance break trio.

the camera zoom into Suga cuts off his lower body & footwork, thus the effect of the rest 'rotating' around him becomes not obvious to a viewer in this video.

I love this dance so much! I agree with you that there is something about this song that Jimin obviously finds so joyful, and it really comes through in every movement how much he loves this dance. In this performance and even moreso in the dance practice, my eye continuously was drawn to him no matter who was at the center.

This dance makes me so happy. I love seeing the little things I noticed and made me smile, made an actual dancer smile too. It's always nice to see you so happy. 💜 Jimin's dancing is what brought BTS into my life, so I think it will always be special to me. One day the dance practice for BS&T showed up in my recommendations list and I became an instant ARMY. He just sucked me in. Don't get me wrong, I love them all, but Jimin (for pushing me down the rabbit hole and Suga (because I identify with his social anxiety) have a special place in my heart. I have been watching THIS performance specifically and the dance practice a few times a day, just because Jimin looks so happy and just seeing that makes me happy. I think I like the dance practice more. I think they may have been less nervous and had more fun. There are little gestures and movements in the practice that are not in this performance and I really miss them. So yeah, I watch both every day right now to help my mental health. I'm having a tough time and this song just lifts my spirits. 💜 Lovely to see you. 💜

joy is definitely the first word i think of when i think about dynamite - Joy and Fun i feel like it's been a while since bts have let themselves do a choreo that is made to look fun, happy and like, actually danceable? don't get me wrong it's amazing to watch the extremely technical and physically demanding choreo, and i'm not saying this one is Simple either but like, comparatively. you can feel the comfort and confidence come through in Every Member and no part of me feels tense watching, which i often find happens with songs like ON or Not Today - the sort of fight songs? i'm so glad you pointed out joon in the first part because it's one of those songs that you realise that every single member of bts is actually a Dancer and Performer, and that can get lost sometimes in a choreo that demands a level of dance that would be impressive for someone who Wasn't also singing/rapping/playing to camera/doing all of the things idols do (also on a sidenote, i just want to say thank you for making these, your joy and enthusiasm towards dance is contagious and i couldn't stop smiling this whole video, partly bc of all of the above, but hearing you put it into words makes it all the more enjoyable)

I don't know what it's called but it was cool! I love how hype you are about the dances. It fills me with energy and makes me appreciate the dances even more 🥰 so thank you!

yes!! lovely video as always!! to the folks claiming their choreo is getting easier: they're not, friend. it's a different kind of difficulty. boy with luv and dynamite require a lot of unexpectedly timed moves, a lot of nuance, and a LOT of charisma. not every dancer can live in and embody the choreo, and that's what i've come to appreciate about watching bts compared to dance covers. it's hard!! despite you stating that this review came before the dance practice was released, i almost wish you'd also reviewed that one as well, if anything but for hearing what you had to say about jimin's move at 1:23 (in the dance practice). in the vmas he just steps forward and does some posed hand movements + expressive singing, but in the dance practice, it's like ..... an it-boy pose?? like it's a POSE. it's such a statement. there's a kind of playful androgyny in it that makes it so "jimin". it's not a move i think many other male idols could pull off. also, i think a layer of difficulty from this choreo comes from how much messing with weight and balance they do. all the high kicks, side-steps, spinning, cross-walking, circling each other, etc. it's dizzying to watch. to have to keep yourself oriented, not fall over, and then sing these crazy head-notes??? wild. jimin's bridge at 24:20 is serving me women's retail commercial. he looks like he's giving me the knowing smile/nod of someone trying to sell me probiotic yogurt. i'm a fan! also, i know this is not necessarily a meta analysis channel, but there's something to be said about the entire performance taking place in ny and then opening up to seoul at jimin's stomping for the final chorus. like. insert commentary about showing their capitol in an american performance during their first english single here. it's their roots! on national television! almost like saying "don't forget we're korean performers" to the folks who suddenly started praising them for an english track. very cool. (did totally get goosebumps). thanks for the great review, lots of fun!

I really enjoy watching this dance for several reasons, when you mentioned that kind of back step at the beginning that Jeongguk does, it reminds me of some choreo he has done for his solo song Begin. I know it isn't exactly the same but it had that kind of energy to it. This whole choreo they have this joy about them but also each of them carry themselves in ways that they have done on stage before and adding that to the dance they are currently doing. It kind of brings in this bit of masculine energy and flirtatiousness to the dance as well. I really loved seeing Namjoon own the stage the way he did. Hobi very much had his 'on stage' presence going and Jimin just was in his element. Fluid and sharp movements that he pulled off so fantastically. Also can we just take a minute to appreciate the energy that Tae brought to the stage as well as Jin and Yoongi. Yoongi really brought energy to the stage. it was pure swagger and it was utterly fantastic to see! I also really loved how confident Jin is while dancing, you can tell he is really enjoying himself. Each of them had their own unique feel to them while still bringing this masculinity and flirtatiousness to the dance. (I mean that in a good way) just the movements were at times I would say not quite aggressive but very forward and sharp at times, then would go smooth out again and it was very fantastic to see the way it all pulled together. It makes the dance a joy to watch but also it really adds so much to the song (the song is fantastic on it's own of course).

Ahhhh yesss I love this dance. I have nothing smart to say, just some thoughts. You are correct in your assumption, the guys have said that the aim was for this dance to be easy enough for people to follow along with in their bedrooms. I can't remember which video they said that in but it really stuck with me. Their specific goal with Dynamite is to cheer people up in a really crappy time and part of that is making the choreo easier than usual so everyone can do it. I just think that's a lovely sentiment! I feel like this is one comeback where I literally can't decide who to watch at any given moment. They all look SO good and they all bring their own little flavor to the movement. So I feel like I have to watch it 7 times over so I can catch all the little details! Re: the background--the green screen stage was their plan B because of the heavy rains in Korea, originally they were gonna be outside (presumably with an actual cityscape behind them). It's not my favorite either but they had to make it work!

I'M SO HAPPY!! I was hoping you would eventually get to Dynamite because it's quickly become some of my favorite choreography from them! Especially after seeing the dance practice video, lol. I was a little disappointed that the VMA performance didn't clearly show some of, in my opinion, the highlights in the choreo. Because of the background, which was good for the performance but yeah a bit much, I couldn't clearly seen Namjoon kick right before his part and you can't really appreciate the full scope of the rotating dance line during Yoongi's solo. My favorite parts: 6:48 the kicks, the transition, the groove 9:51 shown so much better in the dance practice. They are smooth, they hit their marks, and they look like a seamless puzzle, all pieces easily sliding into place 17:15 This entire sequence is, as you said, CLASSSSSS 18:35 Yoongi's spin into the center and controlling the direction of the rotating dance line is SO GOOOODDDDD. I recently saw a shuffle dance line like that and now I need BTS shuffling. I also really love the change in direction during the last chorus and love the playfulness and pure joy they really have while grooving.

I think the reason why they had J-Hope go to the center before Jungkook was the center was so everyone eyes would keep following him and not go to the center. His part didn't end until right after. I also think it helped bring everyone back to the center instead of having to quickly move back to the center.

I always love your videos but this is the first I’m commenting so HELLO! I just wanted to say that I love performances so much more than dance practices (I know they’re hard to react to, d*mn you copyright!!!). I think that on top of the dance being amazing and the dancers being phenomenal, you have these amazing stylists and people working on the backdrop and it’s so much of a production that it does a song like “Dynamite” justice!! The flare of the pants, the heels, the white button up, the vests all accentuate their bodies in a way that enhances the impact of the moves. My favorite part is the crossing of the boys behind whoever’s in the center for the “strolling through the city with a little funk and soul”. I think it gives off the feel of ‘omg is that jimin he looks great’ kind of vibe?? Like a respectful catcall? Like they’re all looking over their shoulders to see the person in the center?? I don’t know if that makes sense (or if it sounds weird) but it’s my favorite !! Thanks for always being so amazing and helping teach people the power of dance!! Can’t wait to see what you post next!! All the love xx

In before a takedown. XD I LOVE those earrings. And I'm wearing comfortable unfashionable clothes as well. No shame. =D Those are some suits! I have to imagine dancing in a suit is much more difficult, unless it's a specially-made suit? With some stretch and give? Also, holy smokes, I know this is a dance channel but RM's HAIR, I love it! I'll say it again, you need another, lower leg camera to cut in when needed. This is super visually appealing with the suits and the fun movements and RM's HAIR, but I don't think it's my favorite dance from BTS. But so much fun, also? "Another kettle of fish" "Giving it socks" I don't know these phrases, I understand from context clues, but I love them. Are these Irishisms? Jimin may very well be my favorite dancer in BTS. He's a good jumper! XD I agree, the dancing on a green screen/stage, which is what I assume they're doing, is a really cool idea, but there's just so much going on there. It fits the aesthetic they're going for with the suits, the hair styles, the particular dance movies, but... it's a lot.

yaayyyy. since I saw the dance practice I was hoping that you do an analysis. Such a pity that you made this one before the dance practice came out, because some of the moments in the choreo are lost due to the angle of the camera. I know this is not about the VMA video, but the bit that I've become obsessed with in this choreo, is from the dance practice, where SUGA is in the center and the rest are orbiting around him. IT IS SOOOOOOOO SATISFYING. how they move in this perfect line. I have rewind that bit a million times and focus on each of them to see how they pace themselves differently to keep the shape. And actually the last bit annoys me because I feel that the perfect line breaks too early, they could have kept it for 2 more seconds on the back. Nevertheless, WHO DOESN'T WANT TO ORBIT AROUND SUGA. This song makes me so so happy, as you said. They look like they are enjoying themselves and are just having a good time which just infuses me with happiness as an audience. oh there's also this other tiny thing, which is not really a technical dance thing, but makes the choreo really pleasing for me. Whenever someone breaks out from the formation to do a solo bit, all their heads snaps toward that person in a sharp move and then they bring their heads back forward again in a sharp move. That's also more visible in the dance practice. I just love it for whatever reason. As if they are appreciating when each of them shine. And btw since you asked, you pronounce my first name perfect. The last name is tan (like bangtan) and ha (like the u in umbrella, well kinda. that vowel doesn't exist in English. It's more like어 in Korean. But one should also pronounce the H). Thank you for asking how to pronounce my name. I really appreciate it

Okay, hi - Circle Time: When they do that set of movement that Riki doesn't like that much, you know the one which Jimin and JK shared? Yeah, that one! When they open and close their hands, I noticed that it doesn't look like they open and close their hands the same way each and every time they open and close their hands... Am I tripping? You understand what I mean, yeah? It's like they do different shapes with their hands when they're open and they close back to a fist always but when open each and every hand gesture looks different so I'm guessing they're doing it to put in more texture?? Idk if it makes sense or I'm seeing things but BTS is class enough to even plan out how they open their hands and close them to make it subtly different so fight me on this one please because I'm really not sure😂😂
