Oh man, it´s really sad to know sometimes such a brave desicion comes with all that struggle. I think you´re right, some parents are very traditional and the acceptance of a son coming out of the closet is kind of impossible. I admire your courage, I wish I could be that strong.

They're missing the last scene of the two via graduation. The only thing I could not stand about Riley's storyline was there as a LOT of inconsistencies of him coming out of the closet and going right back in, out & in, out & in. It just got to the point where I swear he did this four times in one episode.

HIs/their story ends with them talking at their prom where Riley says he finally got through with his mom and eventually get to his dad. There Zane says he's also going to Eastern University. Then Riley just says talks about meeting up in their frosh orientation. That's it really... it was like a 90 sec convo...sucked that their story ended right there. The name of their last episode is "Dead & Gone" Part Two"

Well that was one of the most disappointing endings to a storyline in this show! It's like Riley's character hardly even grew at all! He's almost back where he started! Except he's still out at school and he's a little calmer than in the beginning, but still! Very disappointing!

Even though I think Riley's family was in the wrong, I do not think Riley should have taken the chance on damaging his relationship with his family right before he left to college. I think he made the right decision; he was very mature to weigh the pros and cons and to meet Zane in person to tell him. The writers did a good job on this storyline.

After reading through the comments, I have to agree that the ending was disappointing. I'm not upset about them breaking up because that's a fact of life and even had they been officially out in the open(parents knowing) for a while, they still could've split up for any number of reasons but they never really got the chance and after all they'd been through, together and individually, it seems as if it was all for naught because Riley ended up exactly where he started. Self-aware and supposedly accepting, perhaps, but still in the same position. And to top it all off, it makes absolutely no sense for Riley to be openly gay at school and out in public but in the "closet" at home. Any one of his friends or schoolmates could tell their parents he was dating a guy, which they'd be able to have corroborated since they kissed publicly, and those parents could pass it onto his parents or even the whole town. And yes, his mother knew and chose to ignore it but he never tried to come out to his father. He just took his mother's advice, the same mother who refused to accept his homosexuality no matter how much he flaunted it in her face, and left it at that. I do get why Riley made the decision he did and it wasn't an easy one but no one can fault Zane for being pissed/disappointed. He went through all that B.S holding onto the hope that there would be a rainbow at the end of the road. Instead, he got dumped. Yes, it was for his own good but Riley could've cut him loose long before he got this invested because he knew that it was never going to be easy. It hardly seems fair. And I know that there was that little reunion at the graduation, etc, but personally I find those cookie-cutter, cherry-on-top fanservice crumbs an added insult to the injury. I'll just stick with this ending.

VampireMadonna idk what's your sexuality, but most people that's been in that situation would understand. it acually makes a lot of sense to be out in school but not at home, and many people do that including myself when I was in high school. a lot of the time your friends know first, because you usually feel the most comfortable with them. and after being out to friends and seeing it's not the end of world, you kinda let yourself be out in public in your everyday life. but the home is a completely different challenge.. parents could be more conservative than friends, but you care about their opinion more than just random people at school.. so it's a lot harder. and I understand riley even if I don't agree with him. and zain was actually pushing too hard and changing his mind all the time... anyway my headcanon is that they totally got back together at college after riley was out to his family and they both came around. just my opinion, they were meant to be :)

Lioralon1 In relation to the family issue, I simply meant that realistically, once you put it out there it's no longer a secret and it could have reached his parents, forcing his mother to face the truth.[If her friends or family know, how could she possibly continue to deny it?] Riley wasn't simply out to Anya and close friends but the entire school, not to mention that he and Zane had quite a few public romantic moments. The writers chose not to go that route, which is their due, but from a realistic standpoint, it could have. Also, like I said in my original post, I do get where Riley is coming from to an extent and he needed to do it on his own terms at his own pace since coming out is never something one should be forced to do but I think it was also a matter of having his cake and wanting to eat it too and he didn't really take Zane into consideration as much as he should have. I'm merely looking at it from both their POVs so whereas some people think Zane was pushing too hard, I don't see it that way. He was always up front about the fact that he didn't want to be in a hidden relationship but he liked Riley so he was patient and bided his time with the hope that Riley would eventually learn to accept himself, which he ultimately did yet nothing changed. And still Zane waited and hoped, which is also his own fault but Riley isn't blameless either. So I can understand Zane's frustration and why that might have manifested itself into what seemed like pushiness but in reality was simply him reaching his limit. And it may just be me but I think they were probably always doomed for the mere fact that they were never on the same level. The feelings were there but they were at completely different points in their lives, dealing with completely different factors, in addition to being completely different individuals. I suppose their reunion at the graduation is better than nothing but I still stick to my assertion that it amounts to as much so I'm going to stick with THIS ending.

Actually, this isn't the ending. There is still a part missing from this channel. In that part Riley tells his mom that she'll just have to deal with him being gay. Then Riley meets up with Zane at the prom, and tells him that he finally came out for good. Zane then tells him that he got accepted to the same university. Later we find out from hints that they got back together for good.

From all the series I saw for this storyline, I can conclude that Zane stayed true to himself and was really brave and open about the whole situation. I did not find at all him being pushy. He had showed support to Riley more than any other person. Riley's decision at this point in the storyline looks kinda illogical. Instead of developing the storyline as regards to his parents and himself, writers chose to kill it and gained nothing. It's a pity!

I don't think Zane is exactly a selfish bastard because you should understand all he wants is to be able to be in a normal relationship without being called "a friend" everytime. But I also think Zane shouldnt've pushed Riley this much because he already has done so much for Zane, even though sometimes it ended up backfiring into Zane, dumpster or when he was left alone in the treehouse. Riley has came out to the team and the whole school for Zane, yet he asked for more, he asked the one thing

First I want to say that the writers always seem to breakup these relationships for some reason. I know this is probably more real world but this is not real so why not have happy endings? Next off in this Riley is a complete jerk. Zane cares about him a lot and has put up with all of Riley's coming out issues, but in the end Riley kicks him to the curb to satisfy his out of touch psycho mother whose only goal is to breakup Riley's relationship with Zane. In doing this she doesn't care who she hurts as she is hurting both of them. At the dinner if Riley had had any guts he would have stood up to her and been honest and said Zane is my boyfriend whether you like it or not. As for Zane when he got up and walked out I don't think he should have thanked any of them for dinner. When Riley went after him Zane should have told Riley what a jerk he was after he, Zane, had stayed with him because he cared very much for him and Riley just caved when he could have been a man and stood up for himself and Zane. Zane should have then told him to just get out of his life and never call or talk to him again. Riley was the one that deserved to be thrown out of the relationship not Zane.

To be fair, no relationship ever formed in Degrassi ever makes it. I think Dylan and Marco might have been together, but they broke up after Dylan cheated, and then I think they got back together in University, so outside of Degrassi. No relationship ever prospers in Degrassi Community School.

Riley couldn't deliver just yet. Riley's mom shouldn't be neglecting Riley's happiness and pushing him to where she wants him to go, but eventually I'm sure she wouldve made peace with it, just like Riley himself. But that's the whole point. She needs time, and Zane didn't want to take that time,and sadly that cost Them their relationship. I think it wouldve been better if either Riley came out to his parents or Zane made peace with the wait, because it's time for Zane to make a sacrifice

I think its worth mentioning that while it was great that Zane was able to help Riley find comfort in his sexuality, that Zane also REALLY pushed Riley to do things outside of his own emotional safety. Riley really wasn’t ready to do a lot of the things he felt forced to do by Zane. He never really did it for himself, he did it to make Riley happy, in the end, and ultimately sacrificing his own happiness. Zane was good for him, don’t get me wrong, but no one should feel like they should have to put themselves and family at risk to save a relationship, especially in high school.

NOO! Although I'm all for honesty and coming out, I'm very much on Riley's side right now. Coming out IS hard. He's already come out to his mum, she may pretend he's not, but she knows that he's gay. Nothing he can say at the moment will change that, and he obviously doesn't want to risk it with his dad. I think he should at least wait until he's left home to break the news. Zane should support his decision, after all, he's in a relationship with Riley, not his parents.

Hum i don't know how many of the comments are from adults (since this is primarily a show for teens) but this is a realistic ending(better than a generic - and they all lived happily ever after) this is what mature people do .. no matter how much you may be into someone if two people are at totally different places in their lives they part ways - sad but true.
