I relate to moving away from YA. I still read the emotional ones that explore deep topics, but i can't take anymore high school drama or trying for the school play.

Ahhhh your setting is such fall vibes! and honestly this is such a great idea to attempt. I'm pretty stubborn so I don't know if I could endure reading books I'm not a fan of, still that just means I'm closing myself off to books that I could potentially really love.

You thought the same thing as me when I read American Royals about how similar is the book with The Royals, I even mentioned it on my Goodreads review, and I even do research on internet to find if by any means the author got inspired by the TV show, but apparently she didn´t. By other hand, this year I read the whole series which is duology, and I must say that I liked the first book better than the second, if you thought the first book was a mess, second one would have give you a headache, seriously. So is fine if you don´t invest your time on reading it. I enjoy watching your videos!

I got so excited seeing you read "When no one is watching"!! I enjoyed it quite a lot, it angered me so much at points I had to pause the audiobook and take a breather. I was impressed with how many things it made me feel. The ending felt rushed and a bit convenient, but I still ended up giving it 4 stars.

I just put American Royals on my TBR earlier today so this is perfect that you included it in this video because it's also outside of my fav genre. I got a little worried worried when you said you needed a web to keep track of what's going on because I think I'd struggle, but then you explained it a bit so I think I'll be fine haha. I'm interested to see if I feel the same as you once I read it hehe. Loved your yellow outfit!✨

also if you're looking for more thrillers written by poc, i'd highly recommend Confessions by Kanae Minato! i just read it in january and it was so unique and it had a lot of conversations surrounding revenge which was so interesting

i have when no one is watching lined up for a video and i've heard mixed reviews for it. people who are avid thriller readers say it's not a good thriller and reads more as a contemporary. ALSO you said peter grew up nicely so uh👀guess i have a new show to binge. and finally, the first sister gives off major handmaid's tale vibes down to the auntie thing

Loved this video! Hearing your thoughts on thrillers, I HIGHLY recommend Megan Goldin's new book The Night Swim. It has a podcast element that really comes to life with the audiobook. Also, Ruth Ware's new book feels more like suspense rather than thriller and you may really enjoy it! (Also I'm sure you get a ton of recs for Riley Sager, but he may tick some of your boxes too! Home Before Dark may be a good place for you to check out!)

That yellow dress with the yellow scrunchy-look gave me major Belle vibes. :D Love it! For thrillers I always recommend Mercy by Jussi Adler-Olsen, the main character is quite clishé but the rest of the book is really good. I only ever read YA contemporary if it has a good representation of a minority. Those are great.

Wow! I have no clue that you don’t like thrillers! I’ll definitely pick up When No One Is Watching. Also, I think Fantasy readers can easily love sci-fi. Compared to space sci-fi of the past, the usage of scientific terms are not heavy anymore, and mostly are purely theoretical now than factual.

Space Operas are definitely the way to go for sci-fi if you tend to prefer fantasy. They often are much more character driven and tend to follow fantasy genre convention with little to no heavy science info. It's like Star Wars, technically they are in space but really they are just wizards.

I can relate to not reading YA contemporary so much! Use to read it all the time, but now that I'm 33 I cannot relate to any of the issues the characters have anymore. If I read YA it's usually dystopian or fantasy.

I was actually screeching when you were listing your most and least read genre because we definitely have such similar taste! Except I'd say I dabble into sci-fi a bit but issa BIG NO from me when it comes to historical fiction, I just can't seem to get into it :|
@mara0b3144 жыл бұрын
yes to everything you said about YA contemporary, that it just feels like it scratches the surface of the topic/theme they want to address, if I decide to pick up a YA contemporary, it's going to have to be hard-hitting. It happens with fantasy as well but the pro for me it's that there are other aspects that make up for the lack of "depth" (the setting, the magic, the fairytale aspects, etc...)
@mara0b3144 жыл бұрын
