At peak power of 1915 HP, the Nevera will go through its 120 kwH battery pack in 5 min 26 sec which is approximately 1% every 3 seconds, which is actually what we see here. If a Chiron made that much power (1915 HP), it would drain its fuel tank in 7 min and 3 sec instead of its usual 9 min. So for those concerned about the rate at which the charge goes down, actually the Nevera did well here. At full tilt, neither electric nor ICE is going to last long making this much power. It how electric motors work. There is no gearbox. Torque decreases linearly with RPM, so HP is constant over a certain range. As you get near the top torque drops more rapidly, and hp decreases. Yea I was wondering about that too. The throttle stayed at 100%, so maybe there was a road traction issue (such as bumpiness or water)? The torque vectoring system is super responsive and would probably cut power in that situation if it detects wheel slip. Edit: well I guess I was wrong.

Lots of control algorithms and various battery/powertrain State of Power calculations. There are hundreds of sensors in the battery, measuring all cell voltages (174) several times per second, about 100 temperature sensors, current sensors etc. Basically it is some cells coming close to the limit (voltage drop) and the control systems reacting too abruptly and then scaling back. We now have the data and will optimise the control systems which will result in higher average power and faster acceleration. Still lots of potential in the system.

@KyleHubb2 жыл бұрын
@@skrlaviolette I'm not sure why power drops, but, I suspect it's to control heat in the battery and motors. As far as the two speed gearbox, it changed to single speed gearing for all four motors (instead of single speed gearing controlling front motors, and another single speed controlling rear). You have to follow the development of this car to see where he made the changes. Watching his interviews with Top Gear, Jonny Smith (Late Brake Show), and a few other motoring journalists will also help to fully understand the car. Originally supposed to have come out 2 years ago, but got delayed cos he wanted to absolutely make sure he trounces Elon Musk's next generation Roadster. Some difference between his carbon-sleeved motor design and Tesla's carbon-weaved design is that his rear motor RPM tops out at 17,700 (front motors at 15,000) while Tesla's top out at over 23,000 (each Plaid motor). So, it'd be great to see how Tesla responds to this. Also, there are three car manufacturers today (2 currently EV only) with 20,000 rpm "redline" motors -- Tesla (Plaid powertrain), Hyundai/Kia (GT& N powertrain), and Lucid Motors powertrain.

Impressive topspeed for an EV. I noticed SOC drops 1% every 3 seconds. That means at that max throttle max speed, the battery will last you 5mins. If you are traveling at 258mph for 5mins, you can get 21.4 miles out of the whole battery. If I'm not mistaken, james may said a bugatti veyron will run out of fuel in 12 mins, which for a veyron to travel at 253mph for 12mins will get it to 50.5 miles. @ryanlandry82142 жыл бұрын
It could be protection from overheating, but I think they reached the top speed of the motor and drivetrain so it didn't need as much force to keep the car going. It takes more force to accelerate an object than to maintain its velocity. Maybe it was also fluctuating because of wind resistance, which isn't very constant because air flows everywhere like a fluid and can be more dense on different sections of track (localized weather patterns).
@Scnottaken2 жыл бұрын
@@ryanlandry8214 I have a feeling too it's back EMF from the motors. That's the reason most electric cars tend to not have much top end grunt. Here we see a 30% loss in output power from the start of the run to the end, and it's a pretty linear relationship with speed. Then again output power decreased greatly from 410+, so there might be some electronic limiting going on. Now imagine someone making a 2000HP electric hypercar with a flat power curve all through the entire RPM range.
@beanapprentice16872 жыл бұрын

I'm somewhat surprisd at the power output around 250 before really acceleration, a bit higher than I expected, but the wing may have been working hard for stable tracking there? Power output a bit jumpy, in the end 25-30% under max power needed to hit 412 kph.
@rawslice2 жыл бұрын
Strange how the power sometimes dips and then goes back up while the throttle stays at 100%. Must be reaching some temperature threshold.

Would be nice to know why the fluctuations in power output at a constant 100% throttle. Wouldn't be traction control at that speed. Heat management or battery discharge catching up to output??

@@razorr_o Well, if you look graph on the right, they moved from 120 to 90Nm, but it is the rear ones that went from 250 to 170Nm, and that very drastically. Like car had gearshift, but I remember that they went to single speed for less weight.

Well done Rimac. May be soon you will be able to beat top speed by any production vehicle. observations: battery SOC dropped from 95 to 83% at full throttle. Power also dropped from 1300 KW(1743 HP) to 980 KW(1312 HP). If it could maintain HP for little longer, they could achieve more top speed. Its also race against time as battery% drops really fast at these crazy speeds.
