I'm really impressed with how this game managed to convey such a clear story without words. I managed to tell around half way through that the story was about the boy 'passing on', trying to work his way up the tower to the light at the end. But around three quarters through, it became clear that it's also a story about grief. About loving and losing and loving again. And I really felt that.

This game is amazing, but when you put something out for the world, you have to be able to handle criticism. There is always someone who is never going to like you, no matter how good you are.
@Starfals7 жыл бұрын
Its true, criticism is important if you want to get better and think outside the box a lil bit more, but its not all about that. Many people would of been discouraged to paint,compose music and do all kinds of creative things because people told them how bad they were, how its not a good idea and how they should give up. Not all criticism is good, and sometimes even the good one is meh. For example, everyone told my mom not to study to be a musician, not to sing, not to create music (all her life) and she didn't listen to them. Now she is famous and many people love her songs. Most of the critics were just eating her alive, for like no reason. I've seen that with movies as well. People HATING some movies when they come out, later on changing their minds and actually loving them. I agree with you however, not everyone can enjoy everything and that's the lesson we need to learn here. Critics don't always know whats best however. People told the airplane makers it was a dumb idea too, but hey.. look at us now.. flying to every corner on the planet.

My thoughts on this game (SPOILERS) - - - I think the "boy" was the father all along, and the entire journey symbolized his journey through the stages of grief. The reason he started out as the boy was because in his mind, he'd rather he had been the one to die in the accident instead of his son, which is why we see the seemingly misdirecting scene at the beginning: it was his denial that started this whole journey. The world is seemingly beautiful and perfect, but there is always that nagging feeling of wrongness, symbolized by the red hooded figure he is always chasing, but can never quite reach. Gradually, anger sets in and the world is a desolate, scorched land plagued by monsters. We also begin to see the dark creatures that symbolize depression and grief. The giant bird represents our psyche that actively tries to fight back and continue our state of denial but as we pull out the stops and let the grief run free (the smoke), this opposing force weakens until we are able to face the fact that something bad has happened. In the bargaining stage, the dark creatures become hostile but the boy can seemingly fight back against them using the light orbs and the robots, and for a while it seems that the boy could win. That he could change the world back into the sunny place it used to be. But then we see the last of the robots sacrifice itself to open a door into more gloom and darkness, and you see the boy finally break down. The last stage is pretty obviously grief and depression. Instead of lighting torches, you proceed by extinguishing them. There is no light, and the dark creatures leave you be because you are clearly not a threat anymore. As the last of your hope dies (the fox), you stop feeling and become numb (stone). Life feels pointless, you've screamed so much you've lost your voice and you literally become a shadow of yourself. In the last stage, the boy fights to open up the flood gates and let the light back into the world, and finally the truth is revealed and relived. The "boy" walks towards the corridor and confronts himself (as the father). He chooses to accept his fate and leaps into the void. The father then gets up and goes to his son's room for the first time in a long time. All the locks the boy opened through out the game culminates in the final, physical act of unlocking the door into the room. Finally, he lets go.
@DavidYoungblood867 жыл бұрын
PositiveSarcasm this is the best explanation of this game. I understood the end but I didn't put the whole game together till I read your post. I also recommend watching the alternate ending. When the father goes into his sons room, a fox is on the bed and a robot is hanging in the window. It shows that the father/boy was remembering all these things during the game play

This game was amazing. In all my life I've never cried so much at a game or even a film. The beauty of this game is that it slowly lets you unfold the intricacies of the story for yourself. It was the puzzles, artwork and sense of adventure that gripped me first. As it progressed the mystery and wonder took over and I was just in love. Then it broke my heart. i don’t know if anyone’s said this yet but there’s a grave you can visit at the start of the game. it’s in the area with the red trees that you fill with water to get to the key. if you get into the water and swim down there’s a little passage you can go through where you can find some flowers, a gravestone, and a torch on the wall. i don’t think you get anything for finding it. when i found it on my first playthrough i thought i get could something by lighting the torch, but the boy just cried instead. i remember spending a good ten minutes in there, just trying to process everything and letting the boy cry.

Is in mythical world of magic and danger. The shadows are like the shadow people in Shadow of the Colossus. Big bird reminds me of the Colossi. Big robot friends remind me of Trico. Bitter sweet ending + plot twist.

And when I already thought I survived, I saw the naming of the stages. And it made me cry even more, and there is this theory I can't take either. If the boy really was the one who died, this is all in his MIND. And it's just so sad, and when his dad threw the little red cape part in the wind, it was so awful. Now everyone who sees this comment are going to think for sure that I'm stupid, and that thing is not a theory, but the most likely way it to be. Just wanted to share this idk why xd. To be honest, I played till the end but the last achievement to let go, I don't think I did let go in real life. I followed the game and did not get all the extras. I liked the graphics, music and story, but this type of game always make my eyes hurt because of moving the camera too much, the truth is that I am so sensitive that I really got motion sick sometimes, but still I kept playing, hahaha.

You know whats funny, is i think ive seen this same exact walkthrough, just without the water mark at the bottom. I can tell because the little mistakes and actions in the beginning of both are identical. Or... im just a dumb dumb and it IS the same playthough xD (Edit) This game was truly amazing and it honestly made me cry. TwT
