Looks like a committee designed engine and cooling system. Great video and clear descriptions of how to tackle this job should you be unfortunate enough to have one of these.

Ivd had 4 cars with a K series engine, and counting, love them, currently got a Rover 1.4 Streetwise, out of those 4 cars only one suffered engine problems after 2 years ownership.

Very informative video, made me think twice before ever thinking of doing this job myself. It’s this job that sadly wrote a lot of K series powered Rovers off the road and to the great scrapyard in the sky as the saying goes. You can understand what your paying for if/when this job ever needs to be done on your car and why the sheer cost of the job.

By modern standards these are relatively easy, done a few k series, even not too bad a job in an mg tf
@willswheels2832 жыл бұрын
@@garethjones8047 Yeah I can understand that, it’s been told If the best head gasket kit is used and the job is done properly K series engines can do hundreds of thousands of miles more.
@garethjones80472 жыл бұрын
@@willswheels283 Yes they certainly can. Aside from the original head gaskets they are a very durable unit. During my time as a mechanic the ones I have seen that have failed repeatedly are the ones that didn't have the job done properly in the first place.

Is this the SAIC n series kit ?

This is a very helpful video, thanks John Paul. I do however have a question. How do you get to the inlet manifold bolts underneath the inlet pipe. I have the 2004 TF 135 and there is a bloody great throttle body in the way from above and I can't get my hand in from below.

Hello. Why don't you put some yellow paste on the rail as recommended by MG. ?

Excellent video! By the way, they told me in the garage that my Rover 75 2.0 CDT (y.2001) needs a replacement of the head gasket because it causes the coolant to leak of. Is there any key how to recognize the right head gasket exactly for my engine? Because as I searched for it there are three different types of the gasket - 1, 2 or 3 holes one.

Cant beat the Lincolnshire accent! Rover land rover, the only car manufacturer I am aware of that would take the water pump drive off the cam belt. Nowt like putting a high fail item on an essential drive part. Found out yesterday that the water pump on my freelander is wagging around like a dogs tail. Typical, a job that I could do on my drive has to be given to a garage because its October and the weather is crap in Skegness.

Hi Rimmer bros!! I have recently had overheating problems with my Rover 75 Turbo with k series! It has had headgasket done before, and there was no sign of oil in coolant? I then discovered that thermostat was faulty & also the inlet manifold bleed valve was missing! I am sure that this may have caused an air lock in the system constantly, as it would suddenly over heat even after bleeding via bleed bolt in coolant pipe? Problem solved with new stat & inlet manifold! Not always the headgasket after all!
@valentinmarin14732 жыл бұрын
Really? what is that inlet manifold bleed valve?

Is it necessary to change the oil rack?
@RimmerBrosTV6 жыл бұрын
If you're fitting the modified gasket then yes it is a requirement or it will not work.

Yes, this should be checked as in our previous video on the MGF. John Paul just ran his tongue over it this time to see if it was straight! ;)

In all seriousness, if you go to 15:00 in the video, this is advised.

Pointless buying a 1.8 engine of it eats head gaskets???? Badly designed engine, also worth remembering if the head gasket has gone in might have also damaged engine which means it needs even more work and money 💰😱

It's not a problem on lotus' they use different thermostat
