Any one of these clarinetists could step into any symphony orchestra in the world, and the result would be at least as good as it is now, and in most cases…BETTER. Easily the most amazing clarinet section you will find anywhere.

Good version, but too much bass drum, and certain other percussion spots are a bit too prominent - they are there just for color.

That's a matter of opinion.

Matter of opinion? I take it then that you play in an orchestra as a percussionist, and you just enjoy bashing away, even if it can mean drowning out the substance of the music. Take a look at the first movement of Nielsen's Fifth Symphony. In that movement you can bash away to your heart's content; in fact, the composer requests it. But sorry, not in this piece.

@@alger3041 you took it wrong. Point is I like it, and you don't. Thus a matter of opinion. I.e. Shostakovich Symphony no. 5 mov. 4. Some like it at a fast tempo like Bernstein, I prefer it at a little slower, Like the one conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy. As at the end of the day it really is the conductors choice and to the conductors taste. The composer is dead, let him roll over if he wants to. 🙂.

@@Pabloinjuanderland Yes, a matter of opinion but it has to make musical sense. Yes, as you say, let the composer roll over in his grave. In the third movement of Elgar's Second Symphony, there is a passage where Elgar requests that the percussion section drown out the rest of the orchestra. This is very unmusical and I reject the idea, especially when what the remainder of the orchestra is playing makes complete musical and structural sense. Composers often miscalculate. The Mahler Fifth Symphony is full of spots that I simply would use my own initiative in and still get a valid conception, authentic or not.
