@@Zero.xk1 ok here is the deal: A middle aged salaryman, got stabbed and killed in our world, and wakes up as a slime in a fantasy world. at first he only has the physical body of a slime, but later on he absorbs a woman and is now able to transform himself into a human, he can transform into whatever he wants( male or female) but most of the time he has a male/androgyneus form, his mind is definitley a mans one, as we see him trying to sneak into a pub ran by elves to have a "good time". In the spin off called "slime diaries" the girls who are in love with him and under his rule, try to get him to wear women clothing, and since he rather rules with friendship and love for his subordinates instead of fear, he tolerates their antics. However this has nothing to do with the main story. In the Main story he dismisses the idea of looking like a woman and instead tries to look more "ruler-like".

Something that anime has always done is use female voices for whoever is most convenient, the only time a female's voice isn't used, is when there's a strictly masculine guy on camera. Rimuru doesn't fit that appearance of course as we all know. And simply because he started off as a slime, it supposedly is more appealing or even just cuter to hear a more feminine voice come from a small little slime as opposed to a deep middle aged man's voice (Although I'll admit that'd be hilarious!). So my simple conclusion is that this environment is ten or a million times brighter than that of his original life as an office worker, and when considering the two women he hangs with almost all the time and the fact that he basically absorbed a woman kind of just combine to make him a more joyful and positive character, which of course given all of this combined it's really difficult to put a new label of gender on this man just because he's exhibiting such positivity and sass, sometimes even with a female body. So this is just a never ending spiral of which I've also now fallen into, all because the anime creators behind this are literal geniuses on getting people hocked on characters by allowing them to view the character in whatever way they feel is best or most natural or preferable. It's all in good fun at the end of the day!
