Won't ever purchase Anomaly unless a mod that strikes my fancy comes out and requires it. Don't think there will be another DLC that tops Biotech for me personally. Enjoy surviving on the Rim over multiple generations. Not trying to escape nor clear any win condition. Rimworld has indeed become my Sims replacement!

I like the anomaly "ending" since it lets you embrace the void and be blessed or close it and get rid of the anomalies Either way it lets you continue on playing unlike the ship of planet and archonexus and such

I've been realizing over time that Rimworld has the same issue that I have with Stellaris...there's so much added in that feels like a good idea on it's face, but in practice is just inconvenient and annoying in most playthroughs. Not challenging mind you, but a drag, a midgame resource dump for relatively little reward, or even no reward if you don't want to go certain routes.
@TopFurret2 ай бұрын
I disagree but understand Anomaly isn't everyone's cup of tea. I really enjoy the SCP containment aspect and building the most broken ghouls I can. It adds some very OP things to the game but at a cost of opening up the void to increasingly dangerous entities. Very "what would you unleash for power?" storytelling potential

The main critisism most have is that most DLC allow any playstyle where Anomaly kinda forces a playstyle upon the player. It doesnt offer the same freedom as most other DLC do. Especially in the earlier versions. After a few patches it got much better in my opinion I love anomaly, but I do get the critique on it.

Anomaly is way better in allowing different kind of play than Royalty. Royalty is just make one pawn not want to do anything and always be unhappy to be able to call in favours to just destroy things with the aerodrone salvo, or make all raids nonthreat with psycasts. And items you get from there are way more OP than anomaly items, like monoswords and the zeushammer. And drillarms are just ridiculous for mining. + offsite harrasment events are all Royalty. Anomaly events atleast you can ignore the offsite ones if you don't want to deal with the overrun villages calling for help, and rest of the events actually make you have to do something more than "line up and shoot 'em up" like you deal with everything else in the game. Changing settings for anomaly only incidents makes the game way more into horror, or like video said disable monolith to have ambient monstrosities randomly harrass you. Go down the route of mad scientists looking to exploit these new powers, or don't use the ritual side and just harness the bioferrite for energy. I'd wager anyone who dislikes anomaly just doesn't like how they can't fall back to their OP defensive set ups and blast down the threats, or just haven't really dove into how you can use the anomaly content in different ways other than doing the anomaly "playthrough"

Thanks for your comment. I enjoyed Anomaly alot too.

I agree! Anomaly is better than Royalty. Anomaly's threats were fun and I like how diverse they are.
@admiraltygaming37562 ай бұрын
I liked the dynamic of being rewarded in exchange for exposure to greater threats! Good point.

With the option of just having anomalies in your game versus making the game all about them is a nice balance, maybe youll have shamblers roam in or have a pack of chimeras

Have you tried the Better Distress Call mod? It makes it so when you go to a distress signal, depending on how fast you get there, the occupants are still alive and fighting and can be rescued. For me it made them feel like something to actually respond to and put in the effort to get to quickly, so I could save people and get that positive reputation or new recruits. I also commissioned it.
@Naruku21212 ай бұрын
I haven't really got Anomaly for similar reasons. All the other DLC's are essentially mainstays for me. Anomaly is just so thematic it's more like a one-and-done. For me if and when I get it.
@tractorlawnmower3 ай бұрын
While I agree with you on the monolith being the weakest part of the DLC, I’m not sure I agree with Anomaly not fitting the tone of Rimworld. Maybe if it was the first DLC, I’d be in more agreement, but three out of the four DLCs showcase increasing levels of power of the archeotechs. In Royalty, you can psycasts and IIRC it was when more archeotech bionics were added too. In Ideology, the proper ending literally destroys the world/saves the world because you woke up an archeotech, and Anomaly continues the theme by focusing on the Archeotech completely, how they are basically elder gods of human creation. If it wasn’t for Biotech’s children, I’d argue that it diverges from the main theme much more, as it’s the only DLC that not only doesn’t have its own ending, but which forces you to interact with a very high tech playstyle, and if you want to go with the tech part of biotech, you’re going to be polluting your map, and that creeping existential threat only gets stronger the more you lean into the tech half of biotech. All in all though, I don’t think you’re wrong per say, I just wouldn’t agree that Anomaly is bad as a whole. Some parts are overpowered, yes, and some parts you only interact with once, but nobody ever goes fully down the royalty path again after they did it once, or at least, I haven’t, and Ideology’s path similarly you probably won’t be interacting with as much as everything else. In this vein, I think that Anomaly very much falls in line with Rimworld’s DLC philosophy and overall themeing
@admiraltygaming37562 ай бұрын
Thanks for your great response. I hadn't considered the expanding narrative around the Archotechs, although I don't think the Rimworld lore is a strong selling point (but hey if you like it don't let me rain on your parade). I think the other DLCs (besides royalty) offer enough general additions to the game that they are very repayable. Biotech adds the different races with differing playstyles, and enough additional tech that any colony can make use of (although the mechanator is also very railroady). Ideology adds different religions that also can modify any colony significantly. Anomaly's theme just felt very specific to me. Rimworld isn't a horror game, so a horror themed expansion is fun, but takes you down a very specific route. Instead of expanding the overall sandbox, it goes in it's own direction.

I liked it a lot, but this DLC could've just been a mod. I guess it's hard for Ludeon to top what people are doing with mods on their own. Especially if you compare them to whomever is maintaining Combat Extended.

I've always felt anomaly felt like a mod rather than a dlc
@admiraltygaming37562 ай бұрын
Agreed. Fun and novel, but maybe not a permanent fixture.

I remember a mod that was focused on Lovecraftian horrors, with Lovecraft himself as an AI narrator. Probably what inspired the DLC. It feels more like a mod because of the lack of replayability. The Ideology DLC you can replay a hundred times in vastly different ways.
@mateuszslawinski19902 ай бұрын
Tbh the only DLC that really impacts the game is Biotech (different types of humans = different raiders, new ways to settle in various biomes etc.). You can ignore Empire and most of Ideoligion stuff and don't really lose that much.

I didn't get this dlc because i was mid playthrough of another run. But the more i see of it the less i wish to get it. Idk it seems realy fun for a playthrough or two but looks like it gets tired and annoying quick.

Anomaly added tons of new and interesting threats. None of the other dlc really did. As someone with over 3k hours I absolutely love it. I think people that got sick of it after one play are kinda sleeping on the possibilities this dlc brings. Turret packs are bonkers OP though
@admiraltygaming37562 ай бұрын
Yeah some balancing is needed! I didn't use the turret packs but I can see how they are.
@re6nhah2 ай бұрын
Some anomaly stuff does feel overpowerered, particularly the turret pack, unnatural healing and chronophagy, but only because how artificially rare the healer mech serum is. This is also the reason why bionics are so overpowered and the flesh purity is so awful to play. Imma make a mod to add the serums to traders, surprised i can't find one already made. The turret pack should also cost more components and have less hp, fortunately it's easy to make a mod fixing this.

700 hours is but a drop in the bucket, hit a thousand + and you'll see the potential this dlc holds. Silly animal raids and committing war crimes gets old fast. The story telling potential is what matters most this isn't a sandbox or a combat sim its a storyteller and it always has been. Give it time and you'll come back around
@admiraltygaming37562 ай бұрын
Do you play with the monolith enabled with each new playthrough?
@Dustin3612 ай бұрын
@@admiraltygaming3756 Half and half depending on the story I'm trying to tell. Granted I do play with mods heavily so that definitely has an effect on my view towards the dlc as I havent played vanilla in a long long time but I still feel like the dlc has its place among the others even the win condition it adds is optional like all the others you don't have to interact with it same as royalty

Rimworld has turned out to be a disappointment if I’m being honest. Looking at the rest of my steam library, it is the only game with DLC that I own. Rimworld should have gone in a different direction if it wanted to stack up to the likes of terraria, stardew valley, and caves of qud. Perfect games have a vision, and they perfectly execute on that vision with updates. Rimworld feels incomplete and most of all, poorly paced. With the DLC active, I am swimming in items and options that I either won’t touch, or will only touch in the first 5 mins or not until the run is 20 hours in. They shouldn’t have done any DLC. They should have focused on creating gameplay that flows and feels good. It’s a shame. That’s just me being honest with myself though. This game could have been the GOAT.

You out your mind. Anomaly is great! I have 1400 hours in rimworld and I was burned out taking long breaks. Anomaly has changed everything and I'm back in. I have a sangophage inhuman cultist colony with an army of ghouls. In one playthrough I had anomomly in background so it wasent overpowering.. then a hole appeared one day and giant fleshmass game out. Tried to attack it but it spawned fleshbeasts so I waited. It grew and took over the entire map until my base was surrounded by this fleshmass and the beast started spawning inside my bunker. It was hell. Was game over. Next time ill wall it in.
