Hi Rimzler, thanks for the clear videos! I was doing the teardown on the hero 6 and wanted to test it. But i installed the ribbon cable for the buttons outwards, not inwards like you said. Does this damage the gopro motherboard? It does not power on anymore, stupid mistake i know....

I power my naked hero6 using the chip in battery along with a modified regulator which provides 4V to the battery chip. this way I can access the Wifi whenever I need to change settings in camera (usually need to change between 30 and 60fps depending on the shot). note that most chips will self lock when you detach them from the cell so you need to find one which doesn't. you can see my build here, the thing attached to the back of the camera is my "power module" as described above: rotorbuilds.com/build/22300
@Rimzler4 жыл бұрын
Oh wow that's very cool to know! Didn't know about the self locking
@starnfpv3554 жыл бұрын
Thanks, great info! Do you know maybe Wich chips will not self lock? Is it possible to unlock a chip? Why do you feed the board with 4v? To match 3.7-4.2v? Thanks ☺️
@AerialMediapro4 жыл бұрын
@@starnfpv355 I bought some random cheap/fake batteries and noticed that their chips don't self lock and my naked gopro worked well with them. I doubt you can unlock a chip, the purpose of the lock is to protect itself form being used outside its pack, if you could unlock it then the purpose would be defeated. yes, I am providing it 4V to be in the range of a lithium ion cell voltage.
@starnfpv3554 жыл бұрын
@@AerialMediapro Thanks! And you just add a resistor to make the voltage drop? Have you had problems with 5v? Or it's just to be sure?
@AerialMediapro4 жыл бұрын
@@starnfpv355 there is no way of telling if the battery chip or the gopro mother board will sustain 5V coming from a source which is suppose to provide a max of 4.2V. it would be too much of a risk to try using 5v. a friend, who is very savy in electronics, modified a 5v regulator by replacing one of its internal resistors to provide 4V.

Video molto utile :D Ho solo una domanda. Se decidessi di usare il metodo sacrificando una batteria della gopro poi da dove prendo l’alimentazione? Posso a quel punto collegarla alla fc tramite i pad del led?

Glad to see you are staying safe and healthy! Perfect timing on this video. I stripped a GoPro hero 6 (17g) and tried to keep the usb c port, but then I broke the power button off the ribbon cable when I was gluing it to the back so I can’t get it to power on except through quick capture using the shutter button, which also stopped working (btw, I had to modify your stl file so the usb module would fit) so I went ahead and soldered wires directly to the board, and ordered a new ribbon cable. Practicing my fpv skills while waiting on it to arrive from China. Btw, I’d love for you to do a video or put out more information about your squid project. I had been thinking of building something similar even before I found your channel! It’s really a bummer that the first video got corrupted!

you actually didn't need to buy another ribbon cable. What happened to you happened exactly to me... I snapped the power button when hot gluing it. If you join the Naked GoPro Cinewhoop community on FB, you'll get great information there. but this image shows what to do: scontent-ort2-2.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-0/p526x296/91113731_10222325531789815_7100792846914945024_o.jpg?_nc_cat=104&_nc_sid=dbeb18&_nc_ohc=mIH_Ax3XMG8AX_QcUYN&_nc_ht=scontent-ort2-2.xx&_nc_tp=6&oh=9fa1154bab7627714e453eb3c3c56da3&oe=5EA2930B

there's another method of soldering a wire on the power strip ribbon cable, but I chose this route. Now when power is supplied, the GoPro fires right up!

@@michaelinmotion cool hack! I bridged the broken power button so it auto starts, that works well, but I would love it if it would also auto start recording. Does your hack make it record directly?
