Got one (smaller than this one) with a fiber handle & ordered a hickory handle. Fiber basically makes it an unbreakable tool & seems to have better performance. Probably because you're not worried about damaging or breaking a wood handle so you chop & split with a bit more confidence.

Interesting, I didn’t know that they also came with fibre handles.

interesting point, thanks Klaus! This could be particularly useful if shortening down the wood handle, making a hatchet of sorts, but still having the option of doing more serious work with the longer synethetic handle too.

I like it. Tough, cuts well, cheap, and not prettied up. I use axes hard, such as grubbing roots, raking coals in a fire, chopping ice to get water in winter. No point to paying a fortune for a fancy axe.

These are axes that are made to be used not collected, definitely a good choice if you can get hold of them. Thanks for watching!

I have several Rinaldi axes and I'm using for various works next my home and for bushcraft or trekking occasionally. You have chosen a falling axe and by what I'm seeing it should be "Trento" model with 88 cms handle. Good axe but too large for bushcraft. But it's my opinion only You

Non è una Trento e una forma tipica del sud Italia è un ascia da usare tutti i giorni in campagna per lavoro Il prezzo in Italia è molto più basso

Nice axe. It won't take long to get it in good shape. I've been wanting to get one but everywhere I look they are sold out. :(

I got mine on eBay, I think it was shipped from Italy so keep your eye open and you should be able to get one. They also have one with a much smaller head so check the listing carefully as it was in Italian!

@@bundufundi I guess I should have watched the entire video before I commented. I had an interruption and had to go in the middle of it. Those forge marks are not easy to get out. I waste far too much time on them sometimes. I just finished a little Stubai hatchet that had a few problems. I ended up working it over with a file and hand sanding it daily for almost a week to put a mirror finish on her. That's crazy I know but it's something I don't mind doing. I probably should've used my belt grinder. lol Yours turned out nice. I like how you did your sheath. I never thought about looking on eBay for a Rinaldi. Thanks for the tip!

@@hildolfrdraugadrottin7279 I agree, the smooth finish makes it much more tactile and nicer to use. You must have a lot of patience doing it all by hand though! I had not come across Stubai axes until now, what is your opinion of them, worth checking out?

@@bundufundi I can't really recommend them unless your prepared to do a lot of work on them. The one I got had more steel on one side of the cheek by the eye than the other. The poll was lopsided and the handle was loose. The edge profile sucked and the handle was fairly thick. After fixing all that it's a really nice axe lol. Maybe I just got a really bad example. They have a good reputation on some of their other tools but I can't personally vouch for them. I'm probably way too critical considering how most axes come now days. They all need work, some just need more than others. What's hard to understand is how some of the cheapest axes have better fit and finishes than the spendy ones. Unfortunately the materials they use are normally second rate. If a axe company would pay attention to quality control, use good materials and weren't overpriced they would easily dominate the axe market. I bought a Prandi trenton pattern axe awhile back that was decent and they have a lot of patterns to choose from. Like Rinaldi they are Italian made axes and fairly priced imo. I would recommend them over the Stubai axes.

@@hildolfrdraugadrottin7279 Thanks, I will check them out. I agree there is a gap in the market for reasonably priced good quality axes at the moment. The Rinaldi is good but needs to be more available. I have a Husqvarna forest axe which is 1/3 the price of an equivalent GB or HB. The handle is too thick but that is no different to the more pricey axes so that is a good option I think.

hi there do you remember the model no.? seems fairly wide in the bit, I reckon it's the 305 "Lavagna"?
@bundufundi
@bundufundi 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, I got it on eBay from inferramenta.italia. It was listed as 'Axe large art.305 Gr n.2 Rinaldi Axe dark". It does have a very large bit compared to other axes of a similar weight. I believe these are work axes, probably for pruning, which is why they are relatively cheap but the steel seems very good and they are surprisingly versatile. Hope that helps.
@awyrcoch
@awyrcoch 3 жыл бұрын
@@bundufundi thanks! that's right they are mainly intended for pruning, limbing and other agricultural work, they are very common here in italy, they are cheapish also because they lack all that finishing work that other brands have. but the steel is very very good. hope you still enjoy it! cheers!
