I'm going to reply for La Cognee since I don't think they'll get a notification so might not see it. The last I heard as of a couple weeks ago is that they are not shipping to US at the moment. That might change though.

@@MattKeevil I saw that byxco is selling Rinaldi in the USA, but I might also sell there if there is a demand. I'm working on the website and I'll consider this matter closely. stay tune!

I own several rinaldi axes and the Milano is by far my favourite pattern. When I think about taking a tomahawk out for bushcraft most of the time I take the milano. Also performs really nice on a 30 inch handle.

What’s best for bushcraft, axe or tomahawk? Rinaldi: Yes.

That seems like it would make a capable little pack axe. Your handles turned out nice. That buckthorn has a really nice colour to it.

Cool vid! For a light axe it did seem to buck pretty well. Really like the design of your 23 inch handle, nice job on that👍👍🪓

Excellent video Matt! I like Rinaldi products and have found the steel to be quite good. The longer handle that you made looks great. I hope your weather eases up fo you.

Great thorough analysis and on the field test. I like the fact that you use the trees that you got at hands to make experimental handles. Thank you for this review, very generous of yours! See ya ✌🏼

Indeed! And If you cut a bigger space in the internal part of the beard so that your finger can slip through, it’s ideal for carving too.

@@MattKeevil I just hope I can learn to sharpen.
@MattKeevil11 ай бұрын
I'm sure you can! There's several ways and tools that will get you to a good result. I think I put most of the sharpening advice I have to give in this video kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5qWZKCCZbqKabM One thing I have in there is a decent way to use a T-bevel and a phone app to measure the angle of an edge, which is handy if you don't have an angle gauge or other device like that. I had some trouble with the Milano being almost too hard to file so that's a possible complication.

I really enjoy your long form videos! Those Rinaldis are fun, glad they are expanding in Canada. Does the new shop ship to the US or would that be too expensive? Great handle it looks like the Milano really benefits from a longer and little thicker handle. I’ve got hockey tape on mine! Somebody said they make Rinaldi from spring steel, I have not been able to confirm or deny that yet but I’ve been very happy with it so far. One thing I’ve noticed with my newer axes is the first layer of steel seems to be very soft. Across many brands and types of axes. After removing some steel do you notice a change in hardness or temper? I wonder if they don’t just get ground too hot at the factory
@MattKeevil11 ай бұрын
Thanks! I have been thinking about the issue with the steel since you posted about your Gransfors. I noticed this one was pretty hard right from the jump, I tried two files and they barely cut but maybe there was a bit of difference right at the apex because the edge held up very well after my second sharpening. The problem is I adjusted the angle a little bit so I can't really say.

I forgot to say that I think La Cognee only does shipping within Canada at the moment.
@emmanuel.belanger11 ай бұрын
Hey! Rinaldis axes and tool are made of very high quality 58HRC steel also known as Spring steel. It made them very hard to sharpen or to change the geometry (this is almost impossible) with a file, you need a high quality smooth file to sharpen them nicely. I’m looking to import premium Italian files too for that matter. It’s almost impossible to alter the temper of those axes with a sand band or a grinder. As Ben Scott says Rinaldi make maybe the best axes in the world but it was hard to find them. That’s why I decided to make them available here. I’ll reach out to you to see if I can ship them to the States too. I’m still waiting for you part 2 on the Milano. Cheers ✌🏼
