I wish I could get that many miles out of my Endorphin Speeds. The outsole wears out on the outer edge an inch or 2 in front of the heel long before the midsole or upper has any visible wear. 225 is respectable. At least the Rebel2 is way less expensive than the Speeds. In general I notice midsole performance starting to go flat in most of my shoes by around 200 miles.

I have the Rincon 3 which I bought for 10000 yen , about $75 in Tokyo. Very comfortable and great to run in. For me, the only pair of shoes that could beat Rincon 3 is a pair of shoes that cost only $35. It is called Anta Hydrogen. Very light. Only about 200g. It cost me less than $25. What I did was buying a pair of air cell insole online from China for $10. Put these air cell insoles inside the Anta Hydrogen and it is comparable with the Hoka except lighter and much cheaper.

Thanks for your detailed and well illustrated review. After 261km (163 miles) with the Rincon 3, I do not notice any sign of wear and tear on the upper either. It is holding very well compared to earlier versions of other Hoka lines such as the Clifton. As for the outsole, the rubber is still in fairly good shape and outside of a few signs of erosion on the edge of the EVA "pods" that constitute the outsole, there is no particular concern on that end. I would advise, though, for larger feet, to consider the wide sizes of the shoes as the upper is not extending enough over time to offer an optimal comfort with a normal size (10 on my end). The shoes are particularly narrows at the start of the laces corridor. I am still hesitating at this point to use the shoe for a half marathon as discomfort is an element to take into account after 16-18km. The foam has not compressed too much so far and still keeps a good level of cushioning. I am confident that the shoe can still be used for another 100-200km before being retired.

Rincon V1 was awesome till about 250KM, and it started to crash in on the medial side which gives me shin splints. By 275km they were retired. I didn't try the Rincon V2, but moved into the Mach4, which was an awesome shoe, but also started to crash in on the medial side....but only after 500km. Which is completely acceptable. I was one of those people voicing concerns about durability and wear when I started running in my first pair if Rincon2s. @patrickmaher49442 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your review. I love Rincon more so than Mach 4. I understand about the wear and durability of Rincon as I encountered it with the very first version. Instead of buying the second version, I ended up buying Mach 4 as many reviewers recommended it and I was curious about the midsole of Mach 4. Took me a while to like the Mach 4 as it took me a while to adjust to Mach 4’s midsole when compared to Rincon (v1). Mach 4’s midsole seemed (for me) firmer and it didn’t offer the responsiveness that the reviewers were talking about. I just didn’t understand all the hoopla surrounding Mach 4 (as I continued to compare with my Rincon v1). Rincon was light, fast and comfortable. Plus I really liked the firmness (not too soft but provided comfort and easy on the legs) of Rincon’s midsole. So, I decided to give Rincon 3 another try and totally agree with your assessment. As for the durability of the shoes, especially the midsole, given the cost of the pair, if I can get 200 to 250 miles, I’m good. Since I don’t get free shoes to try out as many of you KZbin reviewers, it is hard for me to spend $160 and above for running shoes, even if they last 400 to 500 miles, especially if they are not versatile (like Rincon). Since many runners tend to have more than one pair of shoes, buying 2 pairs of Rincon is still less expensive than buying an expensive daily trainer and a racing flat (typically plated shoes these days). I don’t understand the need for very expensive (Super Shoes) for many “non elite” runners. As consumers, they may want to buy what is trending. So I get that. And if they can afford them, good for them. Clearly, the new technology that comes with super shoes help the professionals and the elites to run their PR’s. But at the end of the day, the training and the comfort and confidence in the shoes they wear are more important (I think). Lastly for your subscribers, I typically wear US size 10. But for Hoka Mach 4 and Rincon 3, I bought US size 9.5 and they seem to fit and feel better. So I strongly recommend trying out your regular size and also half size down before buying one. SInce many running shoes stores allow for exchanges, I would also recommend trying regular size first. If it does not meet your expectations (based on reviews you read), exchange them for a half-size smaller. That’s what I did with Mach 4. The top material of both pairs are pretty accommodating (not stiff and provides some stretch) so it allowed me to go half size down. It seemed to perform so much better for me as I went 1/2 size down.
@Martha-fluterunner2 жыл бұрын
I’ve had the original Rincon and more recently the Mach4. I too have to go down 1/2 size in Hoka. It’s easy to see why if you look at the size chart on their website or use the size determination tool that asks your size in other brands. If you know your European size, sizing there is much more precise (more sizes per length) than US sizing, and when I look at my US equivalent to European size on both the Hoka and Adidas size charts, I’m given a half size down from most of the other major brands.

I own a pair of the Rincon 3 and honestly I personally do not like it a lot. The wear down of the outsole (and also the exposed midsole parts) looks really bad. Some of the rubber "pads" have lost their grip completly and in terms of the fit of the upper it actually hurts my feet and I received a lot of blood blisters and pain especially during long runs. Maybe this is all because I have flat feet or mabe it is just because of my technique but for me this shoes is not working as I thought it would. Right now I have put around 280km or 173mi in the shoe and I do not expect it to last longer than 650km or 400mi. However I do like the low weight of it and also the upper material because of its breathability. In the end please learn from my mistakes and try the shoe at a local store and do not do it like me buy it online without trying it on just because it is on sale. I Really like your videos @kofuzi so keep it up. I'm really looking forward to your review of the Pegasus 39.

Do you think that the Rincon 3 would make a good long run shoe? I usually struggle finding shoes that I actually enjoy taking on those longer distances like 14+ miles all the way up to 22 miles in preparation for a marathon. Either the shoe feels too heavy (Novablast 2, Pegasus37) or the midsole feels like it flattens out halfway through the run (1080 v11).
