Every video currently on my channel has been edited with my Galaxy S8+ and the mobile version of Power Director, but I finally broke down and shelled out the cash for a decent editing laptop, and Power Director 17. It's SOOO much better!

What kind of paint do you use? great jobs!!
@ApollosRings

Thank you! I just use a fast drying acrylic. You really shouldn't be able to see the paint, but it definitly can help with small spots showing through here or there.

Hi I'm having issues trying to get ring off mandrel. I have to glue it on or ut moves all over the place but when I try to get it off the glue has sunk into the mandrel and wont let go of the ring. Any suggestions cheers
@ApollosRings

Hey Darren! I highly suggest putting out the $50 or $60 for the other mandrel I use. You can get it here - www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/182/7070/artisan-Ring-Turning-Chuck

How do you keep the wood ring to not get superglued to the mandrel?
@ApollosRings
@ApollosRings 4 жыл бұрын
When I was using a wood mandrel I would actually glue the ring to the mandrel at a few different points and then just trim it to the correct width at the very end. That proved to be a disaster once, which was enough for me to buy a good ring mandrel, lol. It works if that's all you've got, but if you plan to do more than a few rings here and there, I highly suggest spending a few dollars on a pro mandrel.
@kenkoscielski1409

Even with my mandrel, i still do a wrap or two of teflon tape. Good stuff, thanks for the response, SUBSCRIBED.
@ApollosRings
@ApollosRings 4 жыл бұрын
Nothing worse than spending all that time on a ring, just to break it trying to pry it off the mandrel, lol. I like to use my HDPE bushings now if there is a chance of getting a ring stuck.

What's the red thing the jaws touch? That's a great looking ring.
@ApollosRings
@ApollosRings 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! This is a fairly old video with much older footage. If you give me a time code I can tell you. I briefly scanned through, but I'm not entirely sure what red thing you're referring to.
@JoelWetzel

@@ApollosRings It first shows up at 12:05, the thing protecting the ring from the jaws. I've needed something for that purpose but am new to lathes so I knew it when I saw it even if I don't know specifically what it is. Thanks for the reply.

@ApollosRings

Thank you!!!👍🏼 I am currently using a Laguna Revo 1216EVS, but in the videos I'm using a Jet 1221VS. I recently moved into a larger, brighter shop that's much more suited for filming, and plan on having new videos up shortly. In the move I damaged the Jet lathe, but that will be fixed shortly as well.
@scoarpa
@scoarpa 4 жыл бұрын
@@ApollosRings those are really powerful lathes, way too powerfull for wood rings. in the video the jet looks pretty small. just saw your etsy shop, amazing work there! such a pity you only have 2 videos about rings, you have such a big collection of beautiful rings on your shop :D
@ApollosRings
@ApollosRings 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I really didn't like the old shop for many reasons, but lighting and space were terrible, and some of the main reasons I just didn't want to film in there. I've built the new shop with filming as the focal point. There will be lots of new projects in the future going up here on the channel. Stay tuned!

Beautiful work Sharpie! What’s the blue stuff you wrap the wood in after getting it out of the water?
@ApollosRings
@ApollosRings 4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It's just painters tape. Any tape will do. Just need something to hold it together while it dries. I use the painters tape because it's easy to turn off after it gets soaked in CA glue.

@ApollosRings

Thanks! This is super old footage, but it was curly maple in this particular ring. Really easy to bend and shape. Maple burl and walnut burl are extremely easy to shape too, and usually have some pretty interesting patterns as well if you're looking for some other easy woods to work.

@@ApollosRings it is ironic that I just made a good quantity of hard maple boards from some trees in my yard. I can see using the bending process for alot of different things. Thx.

Yeah, there are tons of applications for that for sure. I plan on making a steam box at some point, but for now this method does the trick.👍🏼
