How do you keep the ring from turning your fingers green?

What's the max diameter starting hole you can have and still reduce a coin down to a woman's finger size, say size 6 ring? I've punched a 5/8" diameter hole into a Canadian large cent and can't seem to reduce it to woman's size ring? any ideas? thanks! great videos.

+Jason Weiss Hey Jason, there really isn't a set "hole size" per se, but oftentimes it's easier to start with a smaller center hole; that way, the sides of the coin will come up closer together, (more "tightly") as you're initially folding your coin, and more importantly; you won't end up with an overly wide coin ring that you have to try to over-reduce; which most oftentimes ends up badly. Let me know how that works for you!

can this ring sizer and the like be used in place of an one ton or half ton arbor press? it looks like to me it'll do the same thing...

+Dude...Are you sure?? Yes it can, as long as you have a quality-built Ring Sizing machine... the cheaper ones have been known to break off at the handle. The "Durston" ring sizing machine is a very good machine.

What diameter reduction die do you use for quarters? Can you post a link of where to buy one?
@CoinRingUSA
@CoinRingUSA 8 жыл бұрын
+Augusta Simmons ... I use the Stabilizer Reduction Die that i designed for the US Quarter and the US Half Dollar. You can find and purchase that reduction die here: www.etsy.com/listing/249991831/sale-new-2550-cent-stabilizer-reduction?ref=shop_home_feat_2 --- I would also use the newest reduction die that I designed, the 0.9" x 1.0" reduction die (for many smaller coins), to finish off my Quarter. You can see and purchase that die here: www.etsy.com/listing/261283954/new-smaller-diameter-universal-reduction?ref=listing-shop-header-3 Let me know if you have any questions about them, thanks!

what is a cheaper alternative to the durston for a beginner? love all your videos

Hey Mark, thanks for the compliment. There are other less costly brands that can be found online; but I can't personally recommend a specific brand; as I only have a Durston. I will say that the other less expensive models have weak points near where the handle joins up with... they've been known to break under pressure. Just my 2 cents; hope that helps!

So Martin regarding the ring stretchers. I'm in position for probably going for the cheaper overseas stretcher. I have the 1 ton harbor press to do reduction. The question is; Is most of the stress on the ring stretcher arm from ring reduction as opposed to stretching? So do you think the ring stretcher arm will do better with me doing the reduction on the Harbor press. Seems that you are saying in the video that reducing the larger coins put the most stress on the arm. Thanks.

Mark Daniel Hi Mark, yes; in my opinion; that is the point at which the most amount of stress will occur: while attempting to reduce on the ring stretcher. The thing to remember is all of the ring sizing machines available out there were never intended to reduce large coins to begin with! ;-) There's northing wrong with buying a less expensive ring sizer; I just strongly recommend using at least a 1/2 ton arbor press (or greater), for the REDUCTION aspect of coin ring making; that way, you eliminate the stress that that would have put on your particular ring sizer. Hope that helps!

CoinRingUSA Thanks much Martin. Picked up the 1-ton Harbor press for $39, good investment as it is a simple piece of machinery and works well. Will be ordering one of the less expensive ring stretchers to go with it. Thanks again for your advice and keep up the good work with the videos, very informative.
