The 4th tower on my 18th birthday outing.
The penultimate tower was Bagshot. Where to start with these!
First of all, they are a 17cwt ring of eight in Eb. The back six are John Warner’s of 1883 (originally 21cwt in E!) and were retuned and augmented by Gillett and Johnston in 1914. Gillett’s were still experimenting with their tuning methods... I’ll leave you as the viewer to formulate an opinion of how effective their work was... But saying that I have to admit I do really like Bagshot! An unconventional, novelty ring of bells. They are effectively the southern and heavier version of Ullenhall, another ring of bells by Warner’s. If you like to visit quirky rings of bells, put Bagshot on your list. They are a hilarious ring of bells!
