Goosebumps. Each and every time. Thanks so much for doing this, Ty. Oh! And your accidental Kevin Hart impression was legit. ;)

The "faux" ending hold for the tenor was 18 seconds, the very end was 22 seconds! AMAZING!! Right?
@avacadoufo69644 жыл бұрын
In barbershop terms, the one holding out the note was the 'lead' and the tenor is the one on the right of him singing the higher harmonies. But I agree! He's got lungs of iron, that's for sure :D Amazingly impressive and outstanding performance from all four of them
@fezzik76193 жыл бұрын
That was the lead. It’s called a “post” in barbershop. It’s a fermatta in musical script. In barbershop any of the four parts: bass, baritone, lead, or tenor can post at the end of the song also known as the “tag” depending on the song or the arrangement.

20 seconds is nothing for these guys. There is one time he held the note for 54 seconds.

These guys are from Sweden and went through high school together. They sang together in College, won the College quartet contest then went on to the "big boys" contest. I remember seeing them in Toronto in 2011, the year before they won International contest, and bought their CD with Baby Driver on it (even got them to sign it!!). They ring chords so well (hence, their name) that hair stands up on your arms all through their songs. Check out their Jersey Boys Medley AND Jazz Me Blues which is sung in Swedish but is a riot. The bass (the guy with the tall hair) said that Rasmus (guy on the far right who was singing tenor - highest part) had arranged it for HIM. Hilarity ensues!! I have been in women's bbshop for 40 years and these guys are my favourites.

If it sounded like a Disney song, it's because it's a medley of Disney songs haha. Disney made a movie about Notre-Dame de Paris, the story of Quasimodo and Esmeralda. And all the melodies of this song were at some point in the movie. It's been a long time I've last seen it, but I'm pretty sure that includes the narration. These guys are crazy good.

Barbershop Quartet music is such enjoyable music, indeed. This group were International Champions a few years ago at the yearly Barbershop International competition. 👍

That's what got me...the guy holding the note at the end...my goodness!! I don't see how he did it! I was sitting here holding my breath! Would like to hear them singing another type of music. No, I've never heard of them.

“Posting” a note like that in barbershop just takes a little practice. It’s an easy thing to do that looks and sounds difficult
@michaeltutty15409 ай бұрын
@@fezzik7619Holding a note that long without going flat and without any vibrato is not "easy". It takes skill and practice. These guys are masters of the art. Rasmus has managed 54 seconds; not easy by any means.

@@michaeltutty1540 I guess I should have qualified my point by saying I’ve been singing everything from BBS to opera for over 20 years and have had a great deal of training. Once you’ve learned the technique and put the work in it’s not quite as hard as it looks. There’s always someone who gets offended out there unless you write a dissertation FULLY explaining yourself I guess 🤷♂️

I didn't know these guys, ( I sort of knew the story ) but I've always loved this kind of singing and I agree they are VERY good. For the person asking about how powerful microphones are. There may be a microphone or two overhead as well, if it's a very big auditorium. Plus, yes, it's four people but they are acting as one, interlocked, which helps a lot as far as volume. But yeah, looooove this. Reminds me of The Music Man ( The Robert Preston one, The newer one was alright, but no one can compare to Preston's sheer energy, and I'm pretty sure that's why they picked him for The Last Starfighter movie.) Lots of quartet work and even a teeny bit of rap at the very beginning.

I don't see in your comments any details of Ringmasters. Ringmasters is a quartet from Sweden and won the Barbershop Harmony Society International Gold Medal in 2012. They were the first quartet from outside the US to win the Gold. They have been together since about 2006 or 2007. They met while in school in Sweden. Prior to winning the International Gold, they won the Gold Medal in the Collegiate contest in 2008.

Ty, I am in a Barbershop Chorus from Danville, IL. Not sure if you are still in Illinois, but that's not far from where you are from. If you are still in the area, you should come check us out sometime. There is also a great Chorus in Bloomington.

Check out VOCAL SPECTRUM! Their tenor holds notes for 30 seconds PLUS!
@FranPaliotta2 жыл бұрын
The tenor from Vocal Spectrum had a contest with Jakob. He didn’t even bother trying after Jakob held his note for 52 seconds. lol You should check out the recording of the Ringmasters featuring Vocal Spectrum singing “California Girls”. They volley the sound between the parts, i.e.: tenor ~ tenor, lead ~ lead, etc. They do it so seamlessly that it’s continuous sound. Oh yeah… they also sound exactly like instruments. Mind-blowing. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIiqlHSHmbaNprs

Barbershop is a capella close harmony. In person, with the right acoustics, you would hear the resultant overtones loud and clear. 4 voices creating 5 or 6 notes simultaneously is something you have to hear to believe. To make the angels sing is incredible.
