unkhter Cheers, yes it was. They will certainly be getting run on the first trip round the layout - when I join up all the track
@GrahamFoulston9 жыл бұрын
That's coming along nicely Ringo and you're putting in a lot of interest in the track work alone let alone anything else and as you say, that junction should prove quite a focal point with trains coming and going to the countryside area/station/TMD and postal sorting dept. I really like the way you have thought this all through even down to having the point work in the vicinity of where you will be controlling it. A great update mate - keep it up! ............Graham

Graham Foulston Cheers Graham, I am having a bad time with the points though, I melted one doing the electrofrog bit, so I have extented the frog rail on the ones I am doing from now on, so i can add the wire to the polarity switch higher up the line, there is no room at N Gauge to stick it on the frog on the turnout without metling everything! Well, in my case anyway. I've thought a lot about the visual aspects and running operations etc, I hope that the layout is operationally fun and visually exciting, N gives you more opportunity for staging as you can have more scenery in a small space, so I am having trains popping out of and back in to tunnels, a viaduct and curttings etc, it should make it look bigger than it is .. but all of that is tomorrow! Now I just have to get to grips with getting this first loop finished, as I said, everything I do is for the first time and it is because of people like you who put up so many useful, informative and inspiring videos that I have got this far so quickly.

***** Your doing just fine mate, you should have seen my points when I was first soldering dropper wires on mine and they're OO. Melted sleepers and big blobs of solder!! Don't beat yourself up too much because as you said, this is your first time in doing everything railway and in N gauge too - thats a big ask. It will come out OK in the end - that's a known. One thing I have learnt (which is about the only thing lol) is that if it's going shit then just walk away and leave it and come back a few hours later or the next day, it always works out much better the second time round. ............Graham

Hi Ringo looking good like the view from the tram and like the shape of the track and the junction onto the second board cheers Kevin
@RingoSimpkinsUK9 жыл бұрын
kevintregunna I'm loving the junction, it will allow interesting movement potential and routing, as I said to Jon T it's inspired by Manchester Victoria East to Bury and when the elevated lines are in the operational potential will be great. You have to go look at the new Manchester Victoria, it is a fantastic upgrade, Network Rail have done a brilliant and sympathetic job on it - and completed bang on schedule!

Coming along very nicely, the curves you have will be plenty shallow enough for all the locos, that junction is going to look very impressive...Ian
@RingoSimpkinsUK9 жыл бұрын
TheDiomedef16 I was worrying too much I think about cornering, the Deltic looks brilliant going round the new corner, with a consist on it's fun to see each coach go from flat to banked, lovin' it. The junction is shaping up, soldered a load of droppers to fishplates tonight, fitted up a couple of the turnouts and put them down, crossovers fit lovely and the flexi track joins are bang on. Pity I forgot to cut out my track bed cork, so I took it all up again LOL. Ah well, at least I know it all fits together

What stroke of genius Ringo! telling the wife that you've had a 'tax rebate' ; ) ; ) and cut her in to keep her happy! I wish I had thought of that. Brilliant!??

Brian Bunker I've been modelling and wargaming and what not since the age of 6, so 42 years, you do learn a trick or two to get the job done LOL.

Great update. Your trains will easily get around those corners. My extruded foam arrive today so I will get a start on the layout next week. I ordered a coal loading station for my coal mine. Its a plastic kit which I will have to glue together and paint (not looking forward to that). Cheers, keep the great vids coming and I am off to subscribe to Chalk Rail.
@RingoSimpkinsUK9 жыл бұрын
pbeccas I'm going to be using a lot of loft insulation foam (Kingspan) - you don't get that in Oz do you? Don't suppose you need it LOL. Look forward to seeing your layout take shape, you have the next ten years to make the coal station :-p you'll do it in record time LOL. Good fun this trainset lark, almost as good as Napoleonics!
@pbeccas9 жыл бұрын
We have insulation to keep the heat out but not extruded foam. Extruded foam is an American pink insulation foam that is awesome for modeling. You see it in their model railway mags. might be the same as your Kingspan. You cant buy it Australia except at one place that imports it for model railways. Our normal foam is fibrous so not good for model making.
@RingoSimpkinsUK9 жыл бұрын
pbeccas I shall be off to the DIY centre soon enough to see if there is anything better than Kingspan, but it is good stuff, at N though we don't really need tons of the stuff as the trains are so small.
